Man throws acid on a woman’s face

Even as the Supreme Court directed governments to devise policy to regulate the sale of acids, there seems to be no immediate effect as another incident surfaced in Ghaziabad where a woman suffered injuries in an acid attack on Friday morning.

The man is reportedly known to the woman.

The woman has been taken to a hospital where initial treatment is being given to her.

Advanced weather satellite INSAT-3D successfully launched

India has successfully launched its advanced weather satellite INSAT-3D from the spaceport of Kourou in French Guiana early this morning.

European space consortium Arianespace’s Ariane 5 rocket launched INSAT-3D and Alphasat satellites. This will be the first Geo-Stationary sounder system over the Indian Ocean.

Minutes after the launch, Chairman of Indian Space Research Organisation K Radhakrishnan said that the Master Control Facility at Hassan in India has received signals from INSAT-3D.

Misbah to replace Oz player Pomersbach in Caribbean Premier League

Pakistan Test and one-day captain Misbah-ul Haq is reportedly the newest addition for the inaugural Caribbean Premier League season, and will be replacing Australian cricketer Luke Pomersbach in the St Lucia Zouks side.

According to the Daily Times, Pomersbach has been forced to pull out of the tournament, which begins next week, on compassionate leave and Misbah will enter the competition fresh from a Man-of-the-Series performance in the one-day series against West Indies.

Indian researchers have devised a method that can immensely reduce the detection time of sepsis, one of the most common problems in newborn in India, thus reducing usage antibiotics usage.

Researchers at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital’s department of haematology have devised the method which will bring down the sepsis detection timing from 24-72 hours to just two hours.

Former Union Minister Arun Nehru passes away

Former Union Minister Arun Nehru passed away on Thursday night in a hospital in Gurgaon after prolonged illness.

Nehru, 69, a cousin of Rajiv Gandhi and Minister for Internal Security in his government, had been admitted to the Fortis hospital in Gurgaon 18 days ago and passed away at 10.47 pm last night.

According to reports, his funeral will take place at the Lodhi crematorium here today.

He is survived by his wife Subhadra and two daughters.

Delhi government to allot 10,000 flats to poor

The Delhi government Thursday decided to allot 10,000 low-cost flats to the poor in the capital, where assembly polls are due in November this year.

The dwellings would be allotted through draw of lots.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. A total of 1.80 lakh applications were received under the Rajiv Ratna Awas Yojana for slum-dwellers under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

The agency has issued letters warning 15 companies including some that procure alternative diabetes remedies from India, that the sale of their illegally marketed diabetes products violates federal law.

Ten killed, 66 injured in fresh Syria bombing

At least 10 people were killed and 66 others wounded when a booby-trapped car ripped through a busy square in a suburb of the Syrian capital, state media reported.

The blast rocked the al-Soyouf Square in the southeastern suburb of Jaramana, Xinhua reported on Friday.

State TV aired live footage of the blast scene marked by bloodshed and destruction.

The pro-government Jaramana area is largely dominated by Christians and the Druze minority.

The University of Northern Virginia has been ordered to shut down with immediate effect, leaving a large number of Indian students stranded and jeopardising their academic career.

The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia in an order dated July 16, which was made public last week, said that the University of Northern Virginia, which calls itself the most popular American university for students from India, “must cease operations immediately” as a post-secondary institution.

US allows more basic medical supplies to Iran

The Obama administration has expanded its list of basic medical supplies authorised for export to Iran, amid tougher sanctions against Tehran over its controversial nuclear programme.

Under an existing general license issued in October 2012, the US Department of the Treasury added to the list a broad range of medical supplies and devices, including electrocardiography machines, electroencephalography machines and dialysis machines, along with other equipment used by hospitals, clinics and medical facilities in Iran.

Plane skids off runway in China

A plane skidded off the runway while landing amid heavy rain in northwest China’s Shaanxi province Thursday evening, airport operators said.

The accident happened at 6.38 p.m., when an E145 plane operated by Tianjin Airline landed at the Xi’an Xianyang international airport, Xinhua reported.

No casualties were reported.

Operators said a sudden downpour hampered the pilot’s vision, causing the plane to temporarily veer off the runway. One of the plane’s tyres burst during landing.

World Bank to fund master plans of UP investment zones

World Bank has agreed to fund the preparation of preliminary master plans of Auraiya Investment Zone and Allahabad-Naini-Bara Investment Zone, officials said Friday.

Infrastructure and Industrial Development Department (IIDD) principal secretary Surya Pratap Singh said the Uttar Pradesh government was in an advanced stage of notifying two investment zones at Auraiya and Allahabad.

“Preparation of master plans of these zones would help in accelerating the implementation of dedicated freight corridor project,” he told IANS.

Hajj aspirants asked to pay 2nd Installment till July 27

The Hajj Committee of India has fixed July 27 as the last date for payment of the second installment of the Hajj amount. AP Hajj Committee chairman Syed Khaleeluddin Ahmed, Executive Officer Abdul Hameed informed this. They told that all the pilgrims, who have paid the first installment of Rs 76,000 are required to pay the second installment. If they fail to deposit the amount by July 27, their seats will be cancelled. The amount of second installment is Rs 1,03,800 per person for Green Category and Rs 73,750 per person for Azeeziah category.

Andrew Garfield to star in ’99 Homes’?

Actor Andrew Garfield is reportedly in talks to play the lead role in director Ramin Bahrani’s movie “99 Homes”.

If the deal is closed, Garfield, who is known for his role in the “Spiderman” series, will essay the role of a man who works with a manipulative real estate broker, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

Small plane crash kills pilot in US

The pilot of a small plane died when the aircraft crashed in the US state of Texas Thursday, a media report said.

The crash occurred as the pilot attempted to land at a local airport in Amarillo, about 850 km north of Texas’s largest city of Houston, Xinhua reported citing ABC13 TV channel.

The plane crashed into a yard by a mobile home. The pilot died at the scene and there was no report of injuries on the ground. The identity of the victim has not been released.

6 year old girl died after beaten by her mom

A six year Old Girl Farha Begum residence of Zahranagar Banjara Hills died after her mother Ghousia Begum beaten by ladle on her neck repeatedly, yesterday.

Syed Nayeemuddin, SI Banjara Hills police station said that Farha Begum was playing outside the house in sand. Her mother seen her playing in sand started beating her. Girl died to problem in resiratory system. Girl was suffering with some health problems.

Neighbours who seen the incident informed police. A case was registered in the matter and investigation started as told by SI, Banjara Hills.
