Mild tension prevailed at Kulsoompura area yesterday night, as the victims of Jiyaguda slaughterhouse resorted to protest. It is said that a group of nearly 100 to 150 people gathered at Kulsoompura station and staged protest. The protest continued for almost one hour.

According to reliable sources the victims of Jiyaguda slaughterhouse are constantly protesting since the slaughterhouse has been removed. One person had also filed petition in the court who was assaulted by some unknown persons.

Fake passport—Teacher arrested
(Siasat News): The East Zone team of Commissioner Task force has arrested a teacher for obtaining a fake passport by producing fake identity and other documents.

As per the details, the teacher D Helen John, working at Wesley girls High school, Secunderabad, obtained three fake passports in order to get US visa.

Task force police said that earlier Helen had tried twice at Chennai’s US consulate and once in Mumbai’s US consulate to obtain US visa but failed.

MJ’s doc Conrad Murray to be freed from jail in just three months

Conrad Murray will be a free man in just three months after serving less than two years for killing Michael Jackson.

The 60-year-old doctor, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter, will be released on October 28, less than halfway through his four-year sentence, the Mirror reported.

Sources revealed to the publication that Murray’s early release has annoyed the late singer’s mum Katherine, 83, and his devastated kids, Paris, 15, Prince, 16, and Blanket, 11.

According to the insiders, the family felt the medic “should serve his time for the crime”.

‘Brutal’ Castro to spend life in jail under plea deal

Ariel Castro, the Ohio man accused of raping and holding three women captive in his home for about ten years will serve his life in prison after agreeing to a plea deal without the possibility of parole.

According to BBC, following the hearing, a law firm representing the three women said they were ‘satisfied’ with the resolution.

Castro, 53, was arrested in May after one of the women escaped and was charged with murder for beating and starving one of the women, who was pregnant, until she miscarried, the report said.

Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn will face trial on pimping charges after admitting that he attended sex parties in Paris but did not know that some of the women were paid prostitutes.

According to BBC, investigating magistrates have decided he should be tried in connection with an alleged prostitution ring at a hotel in Lille, with the case being the last of the sex-related allegations faced by Strauss-Kahn.

Polls open in Kuwait as opposition boycotts

Polls opened in Kuwait today for the Gulf emirate’s second general election in eight months with turnout the key issue as the opposition called for a boycott.

An AFP correspondent saw few early voters at a polling station in Al-Qadsia, just south of the capital Kuwait City.

It was the first time that an election had been called during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan when the observant fast during the day.

Daytime temperatures were forecast to hit 45 degrees Celsius (113 Fahrenheit) in a further disincentive to turnout.

Polls were due to close at 8 pm (1700 GMT).

De Villiers says proud of Proteas performance in ODI comeback win against Lanka

South African captain AB de Villiers said that he cannot express how proud he is of his team, which ended their four-match ODI winless streak by beating Sri Lanka by 56 runs in the third ODI at the Pallekele International Cricket Ground on Friday.

According to Sport24, the Proteas managed to keep their series hopes alive in the game, in which De Villiers elected to bat after winning the toss, adding that David Miller was the star of the Proteas’ innings, smashing a robust 85 not out off 72 balls to steer South Africa to 223-7.

AMU withdraws banning jeans, movies, Internet for girls

The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) administration has withdrawn a diktat banning T-shirts and jeans for girl students residing in one of the women’s hostels. The order was issued a week ago by the administration.

The provost of Abdullah Hall, Dr Ghazala Parveen, had warned that “if any girl is caught violating the dress code, she will be fined Rs 500”. The notice had said that female students should wear “proper and decent-looking dresses, i.e., salwar kameez with dupatta, both in or outside the hostel”.

Former left-arm spinner Bishan Singh Bedi on Saturday said that Sachin Tendulkar should be aware of his prolonged lean patch, and must score during India’s Test series against South Africa, if he wanted to retain the respect of the cricket loving public in India and in other parts of the world.

“It’s high time that he (Tendulkar) should get back to runs to get people’s respect,” said Bedi.

Bedi said getting 10 wickets in a Test match is like scoring hundreds in each innings.

Supreme Court asks Centre, States to frame law for regulating human clinical trials

The Supreme Court of India has asked both the Central and State Governments to frame an effective law that will ensure proper regulation of clinical trials of untested drugs on humans.

A two-judge bench of the apex court has directed the Centre to convene a meeting of chief secretaries or health secretaries of all states to discuss this issue and put an appropriate monitoring mechanism in place thereafter.

Justices R M Lodha and Madan B Lokur said that they would grant the government a month’s time to convene the meeting and for framing of rules.

Jayalalithaa orders release of additional 3000 cusecs of water from Tamil Nadu’s Mettur Dam

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalaithaa has ordered the release of an additional 3000 cusecs of water from Mettur Dam till August 2 for the Aadi Perukku Festival, which falls on August 3.

The water released from Krishnaraja Sagar and Kabini dams in Karnataka has reached Mettur Dam. The inflow into Mettur Dam almost doubled to 52,701 cusecs on Saturday due to heavy rain in catchment areas.

The water level in Mettur Dam has risen to 89.59 feet with 6800 cusecs of water is being released from the dam.

Second phase of Andhra Pradesh gram panchayat polls underway

Polling for 6971 gram panchayats in the second phase of elections has begun.

Polling was initially scheduled to be held in 7038 panchayats on Saturday, but elections in 67 villages have been postponed till July 31 for several reasons.

Elections are taking place amidst tight security.

Polling began at 7 a.m. and will end at 1 p.m. Counting of votes will take place from 2 p.m. onwards.

Over 20,000 candidates are contesting for the post of sarpanch, while more than 1,50,00000 voters will exercise their franchise in about 78,000 polling stations.

4.5-magnitude earthquake hits NW China

A moderate 4.5-magnitude earthquake jolted Wenxian county in northwest China on Saturday.

The epicentre, with a depth of 6 km, was monitored at 33.0 degrees north latitude and 104.9 degrees east longitude, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The quake came after a 6.6-magnitude earthquake jolted the juncture area of Minxian and Zhangxian counties in the city of Dingxi in Gansu on Monday, leaving at least 95 dead.

Four Indian American professors are among the 13 mathematicians, theoretical physicists and theoretical computer scientists who have won 2013 Simons Investigators awards.

Currently working at Stanford University, Harvard, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Pennsylvania University, they will each receive $100,000 a year for five years for their long-term research with the possibility of renewal for five additional years.

Three killed as car rams into Dubai restaurant

At least three people were killed and as many injured when a car crashed into a restaurant in Dubai.

The accident occurred early Friday when the high-speed car went out of control and run into the restaurant’s kitchen, killing two Asian workers instantly and injuring two others. A third worker succumbed to his injury in the hospital, said Salah Bu Farousha, the head of Dubai Traffic Public Prosecution.

A Brazilian woman, 21, who was in the car, sustained injuries while its 21-year old Angolan survived being hurt.
