Saroornagar police recovered the body of a girl from the lake. According to Saroornagar police 18-year-old Reshma daughter of Shamshad jumped into the lake and committed suicide. Both of them lived on the footpath. Police retrieved the body from the lake and began investigations after registering the case.

Change the way you bring up your sons: SRK

To counter the rise in crime against women, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan thinks it is the responsibility of the parents to teach their sons on how to behave with girls.

“We have to change the concept of how we bring up our children at home. We need to teach boys how to be gentle, good and respectful to women,” Khan told reporters here last night when asked to comment on the rising crime graph against women.

The superstar said when he talks about girls to his teenage son, he tells him to never break a girl’s heart.

Ahmed attacks BJP chief over Modi visa issue

Congress General Secretary Shakeel Ahmed today sought to ridicule BJP President Rajnath Singh over the issue of a US visa for Narendra Modi.

“I’m in Canada, near USA. Rajnath Singhji should have been informed that in USA guardians are allowed to apply for visa only for minors,” Ahmed said on microblogging site Twitter.

Singh had said last week that he would take up the visa issue with the US lawmakers in Washington and “will appeal to the US government to clear the US visa for the Gujarat Chief Minister”.

Biker killed in Police firing in New Delhi

One young biker was killed while another was injured in police firing in the wee hours here today, police sources said.

The incident occurred between 2.00 am and 2.15 am at Windsor Place of New Delhi when a group of bikers were involved in a confrontation with police officials trying to stop them from performing dangerous stunts on the roads.

Karan Pandey was killed when a bullet fired by the police in an attempt to puncture the tyre of the bike he was riding, hit him in his back, police officials said.

Three arrested for forcing teenage girl into flesh trade in UP

Three persons, including two women, were on Saturday arrested here for allegedly forcing a teenage girl hailing from Uttar Pradesh into prostitution.

The 16-year-old, who hails from Varanasi, had come alone to Jaipur for treatment a couple of weeks back, said SHO Prashant Kaushik.

During her stay in the city, she befriended with a woman named Doli and started putting up at her house, he said.

Govt ready to share classified water data at a cost

Amid a raging debate over greater transparency, the government is ready to part with classified hydrological data at a cost, provided the user is able to convince a panel about the requirement.

Both Indian and foreign users can apply for the classified water data.
While “Indian non-commercial users” will be provided with the information free of cost, “Indian commercial and foreign users” will be provided the classified hydro data at a cost of Rs 75,000 per site, per annum.

The classified data will be released for a specific purpose or study and will be non-transferable.

US calls for calm in Egypt as violence escalates

The US, Canada and the United Nations has called for calm and peace in Egypt amidst escalation of violence in the country leaving more than 100 people dead and some 4,500 injured.

The US Secretary of State John Kerry has spoken to Egyptian leaders like interim Vice President Mohamed ElBaradei and Interim Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy asking for calm.

At least 120 were killed yesterday when Egyptian troops opened fire on deposed President Mohammed Morsi’s supporters demanding his reinstatement, the Muslim Brotherhood said.

Girl raped, immolated by brother-in-law in UP

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped and immolated by her brother-in-law in Bilgram area here, police said on Sunday.

According to the complaint lodged yesterday, the teenager was raped and later set on fire by her brother-in-law on Friday night, they said.

The wife of the accused, also the victim’s sister, said that her husband had only teased the girl and claimed that the girl committed suicide.

Former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD president Lalu Prasad Yadav today said Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leader L K Advani will never become the Prime Minister of the country.

“Modi and Advani can never become the prime minister in their lifetime. Secular forces in this country would never allow the saffron outfit to come to power,” the RJD chief told media here.

Minority Commission initiates efforts to ensure admission on merit basis

State Minority Commission has begun its efforts to ensure admission into medical and other professional colleges to minority students on merit basis. Nearly 1,200 prisoners flee Libyan jail

In a major jailbreak, nearly 1,200 convicts, most of them facing serious charges, escaped from a prison near Libyan city of Benghazi Saturday, a security official said.

The mass jailbreak from al-Kuifiya prison occurred following a fierce riot during which some prisoners set the prison complex on fire, reported Xinhua citing witnesses. While the security official said it took place after some unidentified gunmen began attacking the prison from outside at dawn.

French minister for stronger defence ties with India

French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on Saturday reiterated his country’s commitment to boosting defence ties with India, including exchange of pilots, training and joint exercises.

The French minister, on the last day of his two-day visit, went to the Gwalior station of the Indian Air Force (IAF) where he was shown the French Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft, a statement said.

Mirage 2000 is a mainline fighter aircraft of the IAF and two such planes are being upgraded in France.

10 killed and 15 wounded in Iraq attacks

At least 10 people were killed and 15 wounded in separate bombing and shooting incidents in Iraq Saturday, the police said.

Iraqi security forces killed four gunmen and wounded six others in a search operation in Qaim city, near the Iraqi-Syrian border in Iraq’s western province of Anbar, reported Xinhua citing a provincial police source.

In Mosul city, an Iraqi army officer was killed in a roadside bomb explosion, a local police source said.

SBI branch manager abducted

Suspected ultras today abducted a bank manager in Palamau district, a senior police officer said.

Anup Kumar Singh, the manager of State Bank of India’s Panki branch, was going to Ranchi when suspected extremists abducted him near Salughati under Panki police station, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Palamau Range) Ravi Kant Dhan said here.

Raids have been launched, he said.

The police sources said it was being ascertained how many occupants were in the car, whereabouts of the vehicle and the reason behind the abduction.
