Southern actor Dhanush, who turned 30 Sunday, is celebrating his birthday in style in London with close friends from the industry.

Dhanush was accompanied by Tamil actors Sivakarthikeyan and Sathish.

“Soon after ‘Raanjhanaa’ success party, Dhanush left for London with friends to celebrate his birthday. He is planning to stay there for a few more days and will also be joined by music composer Anirudh Ravichander,” a source close to the actor told IANS.

Opportunists snap up websites with royal baby names

Cyber squatters – or opportunistic buyers on internet who use a domain name with bad intent to profit from the goodwill of a trademark – have already registered domain names referring to the new royal baby, Prince George Alexander Louis.

Within moments of the royal baby’s name being announced, domains such as “GeorgeAlexanderLouis.com” and “princegeorgecambridge.co.uk” were taken, BBC reported.
Purchase of domain names mentioning the name “George” rose by 106.9 percent.

No coverup regarding Dhoni, assures Dalmiya

1 killed, 23 injured as part of mall complex collapses

One person died, while 23 others sustained injuries when the front elevation of a shopping mall collapsed in the posh Ghodod locality here, police said.

“One of the persons undergoing treatment succumbed to the injuries. Others were rescued from debris and admitted to local civil hospital for medical aid,” they said.

The fire and police official cordoned off the mall premises, where the incident took place.

Recently, a leading pizza chain had opened its outlet in the mall and its extended elevation portion collapsed, officials said.

India beat Zimbabwe by seven wickets

A disciplined India notched up a convincing seven-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the third One-day International to secure an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series here today.

Amit Mishra scalped four wickets and skipper Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 88-ball 68 to emerge as star performers for India as they guided the visitors to their third straight victory in the series.

Mishra led a disciplined show by the bowlers as they dismissed Zimbabwe for a paltry 183 in just 46 overs after Kohli won the toss and decided to bowl.

15 injured in grenade blast by suspected ULFA militants

At least 15 persons were injured, two of them seriously, in a grenade blast tonight at the busy Paltan Bazar area near the railway station here, the fifth such incident in the state in a week.

The blast, suspected to be a handiwork of the banned ULFA, took place when police was checking vehicles near the station at G S Road. The injured include two police home guard personnel.

Manish Tewari’s house vandalised by BJP workers, alleges Congress

Punjab Congress on Sunday alleged that a group of BJP youth wing workers tried to vandalise the private residence of Union minister Manish Tewari here, a charge refuted by the outfit.

The allegations have come a day after two bottles of acid were found outside his house and the police are investigating all angles including foul play into the matter.

“Today, activists of Bhartiya Yuva Janata Morcha carrying utensils, spoons, Rs five coins and placards gathered outside the Tewari’s house,” said district Congress president Pawan Dewan.

Compensation announced for Uttarakhand victims hailing from Rajasthan

The Rajasthan government today announced to give a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each, besides a government job, to the next of kin of the people hailing from the state killed or missing in Uttarakhand floods.

The decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot last night, officials said.

The cash amount includes Rs 5 lakh given by the state government, Rs 2 lakh from PM relief fund, and Rs 1.5 lakh each from SDRF and Uttarakhand government’s relief fund.

555 alleged fake encounters reported between 2009-13: Govt

Even as CBI probes the Ishrat Jahan and Sadiq Jamal alleged fake encounter cases, at least 555 such alleged extra judicial killings have been reported in the country, including 138 in Uttar Pradesh, in last four years.

According to a Home Ministry statistics, a total of 555 cases of alleged fake encounters by police, defence and paramilitary forces were registered by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) since April 1, 2009 till February 15, 2013.

Bomb blast in Guwahati, five injured

A bomb blast near the busy Paltan Bazaar police station in Guwahati Sunday evening left at least five people injured, police said.

Guwahati’s Senior Superintendent of Police A.P. Tiwari said five people sustained injuries in the blast that occurred in an area close to the railway station and usually crowded.

Since the blast occurred on a Sunday, the place was not as crowded as it usually is, he added.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the explosion.

Maoists kill abducted police constable in C’garh

The body of the police constable, who was abducted by the Maoists on July 21 from Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh, was recovered today from the dense forest areas of Maharabeda village near here, police said.

The body of constable Dhansai Sori (25), abducted by the Maoists a week ago, was recovered from the dense forest of Maharabeda village between Jhara and Dhaudai police stations,” Deputy Superintendent of Police N K Sahu told PTI.

It appears that he was beaten to death,” Sahu said.

Girl shot dead by stalker, 3 held

A teenaged girl was today shot dead outside her home in Jalpaiguri district allegedly by a stalker who was arrested along with his associates within hours of the crime, police said.

The assailants came on a motorbike and shot the Std XI girl as she was returning home from private tuitions.

The girl, who was shot in the head outside her house at Subhas Colony in Falakata, died on the spot.

Following the attack, locals held a demonstration demanding that the culprits be immediately arrested.

Syrian opposition condemns soldier killings

Syria’s main exiled opposition group condemned today the reported execution of scores of government soldiers by rebels in a northern Syrian village earlier this week.

The Turkey-based Syrian National Coalition said in a statement that it was forming a commission of inquiry to
investigate the incident in Khan al-Assal.

Syrian activists say rebels killed 150 government soldiers, some after they surrendered, on Monday and Tuesday
in the village outside Aleppo, the country’s largest city.

6 killed, 5 injured in house collapse

Six persons were killed and five others injured when their house collapsed in the wee hours today at Kannod, about 120 km from here, police said.

Babu Khan (70) and all his family members were buried under the debris while asleep in their house, which was
reportedly constructed around 20 years ago, police said.

Salma (32), Afreen (16), Fareen (18) and Asif (14) died on the spot. Seven injured were taken to a hospital and four of them were referred to Indore for treatment, they said.

Bahrain raises alarm over rising violence

Bahrain’s justice minister is calling for stronger measures against escalating anti-government violence. Otherwise, he warns, the nearly 30-month unrest could be prolonged.

Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa’s comments came during a special parliament session to discuss mounting violence, which has included bombings against police and near the royal palaces.

The justice minister said Bahrain must first quell “terrorism” before it can discuss reconciliation.

Man held for demanding Rs 50,000 from principal and teacher

A man was arrested today from Dhawapur village in Bihar’s Jehanabad district for demanding Rs 50,000 ransom from a school principal and another teacher, police sources said.

Acting on the complaint, the police arrested one Pappu Yadav for demanding extortion of Rs 50,000 from the
government upgraded secondary school principal Rampravesh Das and another teacher Md Gaus and snatching Rs. 3,000 from them at gun point, the sources said.

Yadav was earlier charged in another case for firing on the Ex-MP Arun Kumar nearly three years ago, they added.

Woman held for poisoning tubewell

A woman was arrested today for poisoning a tubewell in her own house in a village in Bihar’s Gopalganj district, a police officer said.

The accused woman Aarti Devi was arrested after the family members complained that she had poisoned a tubewell
as a result of which two children of the extended family were taken ill after consuming contaminated water earlier in the day, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anil Kumar said.

Devi had dropped some poisonous substance in the tubewell apparently to settle scores with the members of her
extended family, he said.

4 soldiers killed in road accident in NW Pakistan

At least four Pakistani soldiers were killed and 12 others injured when the vehicle they were travelling in turned turtle in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province today, security sources said.

The vehicle of the Frontier Works Organisation was on its way to Bannu district from Miran Shah headquarters of North Waziristan when it met the fatal road accident near Bannu of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, they said.

Four soldiers killed and 12 others injured in the accident, they said.
