Bangladeshi actress found dead at residence  

A well-known Bangladeshi TV actress was found dead today at her posh Dhaka residence with police saying the death appeared “mysterious”.

The body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the drawing space of the apartment early this morning,” officer at Gulshan Police Station Rafiqul Islam told newsmen after Mita Noor was found dead.

He said family members called police seeing Noor hanging but added, “It is unclear if it was a simple case of suicide,” though family members said she strangled herself.

Police said an investigation was ordered into the death.

Teenage Pakistani girls shot dead in honour killing for dancing in rain

Two teenagers sisters were reportedly shot dead after they were seen dancing in the rain in Pakistan.

Noor Basra, 15, and Noor Sheza, 16, were killed by five gunmen after their clip dancing around caused outrage in their ultra-conservative town.

According to the Mirror, their mother Noshehra was also shot. Police suspect that the murders were ordered by the sisters’ step-brother to restore the family’s ‘honour’.

The sisters were filmed six months ago break-dancing after it started raining heavily.

Man murders wife over dowry

A man stabbed his wife to death here Monday over non-fulfilment of his dowry demands, police said.

Bhola stabbed his wife Aarti several times with a kitchen knife in the Mall area after a brief altercation, police said.

He was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by Aarti’s family under the dowry prohibition law, police said.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Saumitra Yadav told IANS that the accused married Aarti, a resident of Hardoi, an year back and had been harassing her over dowry since then.

Jiah suicide case: Suraj Pancholi gets bail from High Court

The Bombay High Court today granted bail to Suraj Pancholi, son of actor Aditya Pancholi, while observing that he cannot be held solely responsible for the “impulsive” act of suicide committed by actress Jiah Khan.

“No doubt that it was an unfortunate incident that a young girl has committed suicide. She (Jiah) must have been impulsive and he (Suraj) cannot be held solely responsible for it,” Justice Sadhna Jadhav said.

Bombings kill 53, injures around 140 people in Pakistan

At least 53 people were killed and nearly 140 injured in Pakistan on Sunday in different attacks, including a powerful bomb blast that targeted a passing convoy of security forces.

In the first incident, at least 17 people, including four children, were killed and nearly 50 injured when the powerful remote-controlled bomb targeted a passing convoy of security forces near a busy market here in northwest Pakistan.

Man fined for letting sister drive car in Saudi Arabia

A 17 year old man was fined 900 Saudi Riyal for allowing his sister to drive the family car in Saudi Arabia.

The woman, 23, was arrested by a police patrol, even though she was driving with her brother in the Eastern province of Qateef.

According to Gulf News, the police impounded the car for seven days and the woman was booked for breaking the rules of driving without a licence.

The case will be reviewed by an interior ministry agency. (ANI)

MQM chief Altaf backtracks resignation within hours

The founder of Pakistan’s Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Altaf Hussain, who had resigned as party head early on Sunday morning, took back his resignation on insistence of his party workers.

After Hussain announced his resignation, hundreds of MQM workers gathered at Nine Zero in Karachi’s Azizabad area, requesting him to take back his resignation.

After receiving emotional appeals by party workers, Altaf retracted his decision of leaving the party.

CBI to file chargesheet in Ishrat Jahan case by July 4

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will file a preliminary chargesheet in the Ishrat Jahan encounter case by Thursday. It will focus on those who directly participated in the incident and not on the conspiracy behind it, the agency’s director, Ranjit Sinha, said Monday.

“We have given an assurance to the Gujarat High Court that we will file the chargesheet by July 4. We will maintain that,” Sinha told reporters on the sidelines of a function on environmental training at the CBI headquarters here.

Mother buries 3-month-old daughter alive

In a shocking incident, a 30-year-old woman allegedly buried her three-month-old daughter in Karnal district on Saturday.

The woman is already a mother of three girls and a boy, and according to reports, she wanted another son, rather than a daughter. The accused, Ajmeri Khatun, buried the infant.

The infant, Asma, was pulled out alive by her father’s elder brother and his wife in Syed Chhapra village.

In her confession Ajmeri told the police that she was upset over the delivery of a baby girl as she wanted another boy. The accused had buried the infant by digging a pit in her room.

Inzamam denies being offered Pak batting coach job

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq has denied reports that he is in line to take over as the national team’s batting coach after team’s poor show in the recent Champions Trophy in England.

“This time no one from the Pakistan Cricket Board has contacted me as yet regarding the batting coach position. Many people are asking me about this but I’ve had no contact from the PCB,” he said.

Inzamam was, last December, approached by the board to work as a batting consultant with the national team and even worked with the players before they went to India for a one-day series.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif may face a major economic challenge when more than 50,000 illegal Pakistani workers in Saudi Arabia, the largest source of remittances for Pakistan, would be deported after the July 3 amnesty deadline set by the Gulf Kingdom expires.

The large scale deportation is looming ahead despite the strong ties between Sharif and the Saudi royal family in the wake of new Saudi labour law called ‘Nitaqat’ that makes it mandatory for local companies to hire one Saudi national for every 10 migrant workers.

Iran opposed to UN rapporteur’s visit: official

Tehran is opposed to any visit by Ahmed Shaheed, the UN special rapporteur on human rights situation in Iran, due to his “invalid” reports, reported Xinhua citing Secretary of Iran’s Human Rights Bureau, Mohammad-Javad Larijani.

Whaheed’s reports about the human rights situation in the Islamic republic are based on “anti-Iran websites and are thus invalid”.

In his latest report in March, Shaheed charged Iran with cases of execution, arrest of journalists, confessions under duress, and denying religious, ethnic and sexual minorities of their basic rights.

Policeman killed in Kashmir gunfight

A policeman was killed and two security personnel were injured Monday in a gunbattle between separatist guerrillas and security forces in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

BJP seeks reply on Cong leader having alleged terror links

The Punjab unit of BJP on Sunday sought a clarification from Congress on media reports which claimed that former PCC chief Amarinder Singh wrote a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi alleging Pratap Singh Bajwa of having terrorist links.

BJP state president Kamal Sharma termed it a matter of serious concern and said a senior Congress leader had levelled some “serious” allegations at his party colleague. He asked the state government to order a probe into the matter.

Woman beaten after two vehicles collide

A young married woman was beaten up allegedly by two men when her husband tried to calm down two groups following an accident, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday night in Panchsheel Enclave area.

The woman’s husband had intervened in a fight between the two men, who were in a car, and an auto driver after their vehicles collided.

She was beaten up by the men in car.
