Final decision on Telangana likely soon

General Secretary All India Congress and in charge Andhra Pradesh Congress affairs Digvijaya Singh informed that the Congress Core Committee meeting will be held within 10 days in which the Congress high command is likely to announce its much-awaited Telangana decision. Congress leaders of both the regions are requested to accept it, whatever may be the decision.

Rs 2,500 crore seized from four trucks in Mumbai

The trucks were apprehended from outside Mumbai Central railway station.

The Income Tax Department and National Investigation Agency personnel on Monday night seized cash worth Rs 2,500 crore and gold from four trucks here and detained 47 people.

The trucks were apprehended from outside Mumbai Central railway station. According to reports, the cash was to be transported to Ahmedabad on Gujarat Mail.

In an interesting twist in the case, it has been revealed that an Inspector stationed at South Mumbai’s VP Road and his colleagues had escorted the trucks to station.

Cash, jewels worth Rs.200 crore seized in Mumbai

A courier consignment of cash, gold and diamond jewellery, estimated to be worth a staggering Rs.200 crore (about $33 million) was seized here late Monday by the National Investigation Agency and Income Tax Department, an official said.

It is being billed as the biggest operation of its kind and the sources and destinations of the consignment are being probed.

Indian American physicians to push Obama care

A representative body of over 100,000 physicians of Indian origin in the US is working on a five-year strategic plan to create and lobby for meaningful legislative agenda at the federal level.

Members of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) “should be at the table during implementation stage of the health care reform”, says the association’s new president Jayesh Shah.

“I want AAPI members to remember: If you are not at the table, then you are most probably on the menu,” he said as the new AAPI team assumed charge during its annual convention here last week.

Non-bailable warrants against 11 TDP MLAs

The Secunderabad Railway court has issued Non-Bailable warrant against 11 TDP MLAs. The MLAs had taken part in the Rail Roko protest called by Telangana Rashtra Samithi in 2011. The non-bailable warrant is said to have issued against the Telangana TDP MLAs owing to their consistent absence in the court. The MLAs against whom the warrant is issued include, Nagam Janardhan Reddy and Venu Gopalchari.

Amid reports that US did not spare even its allies and friends like India from its spying operations, President Barack Obama has responded that all nations collect intelligence on each other.

“I guarantee you that in European capitals, there are people who are interested in, if not what I had for breakfast, at least what my talking points might be should I end up meeting with their leaders,” Obama was quoted as saying by CNN.

Sujata Singh to be India’s next Foreign Secretary

Sujata Singh, currently envoy to Germany, will be India’s next Foreign Secretary following an approval of her appointment by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, ending months of speculation on who will head the foreign services.

59-year-old Singh, a 1976 batch IFS officer, was a close contender for the top job along with India’s Ambassador to China S Jaishankar, who is a batch junior to her.His name was doing the rounds because of his excellent service record particularly as envoy to China.

RTC employees to go on strike

General Secretary APSRTC Employees Union Mr. Padmakar informed that the corporation workers will begin indefinite hunger strike from July 5, seeking fulfillment of their demands. He requested the workers of 213 bus depots to participate in the strike. Meanwhile Corporation Managing Director A K Khan has invited employees union and TMU union leaders on Wednesday for talks.

World’s first Firefox smartphone launched

Spain’s Telefonica is offering the world’s first smartphone with the Firefox operating system to compete with devices running Google Android and Apple IOS.

The ZTE Open smartphone goes on sale in Spain this week for 69 euros (about $90) and will soon be available in several Latin American countries.

The device is aimed at the youth market and at people who are new to smartphones, Telefonica’s chief of product development, Carlos Domingo, said during a Madrid press conference where he was joined by executives from Mozilla and telephone-maker ZTE.

Snowden seeks asylum in India, 19 other countries

American whistle-blower Edward Snowden, currently sheltered in the transit zone of Moscow airport, has sought asylum in 20 countries, including India.

These asylum requests have been filed by Sarah Harrison, legal advisor of Wikileaks in the matter of Snowden, the whistle-blower website said today, adding that the first two requests were made to Ecuador, followed by Iceland.

Decision on Telangana issue is in final stage: Digvijay Singh

The process of taking a decision on the protracted Telangana issue is in the final stage, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh said on Monday.

Singh, who was last month appointed in-charge of Congress affairs in Andhra Pradesh, told reporters that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, APCC President B Satyanaryana and Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha have been asked to furnish a roadmap that could lead to a decision on the decades-long statehood issue.

Singh, who is on a visit to the state, declined to draw a timeframe for announcing the decision on Telangana issue.

Cash-for-job ‘scam’ reaches APPSC’s doorstep, member held

Police today arrested a member of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) for allegedly playing a “key” role in the cash-for-job scam, a senior police officer said.

“G S Sitaramaraju, who played a key role in the job scam involving appointment of polytechnic lecturers by APPSC, was arrested by the Hyderabad Central Crime Station (CCS) sleuths on the charge of conspiracy and attempt to cheat,” DCP (Detective Department) L K V Ranga Rao told PTI tonight.

Couple ends life over wife’s ‘incurable’ illness

A couple married for two months allegedly committed suicide today after the husband came to know that his wife was suffering from an “incurable” disease, police said.

V Vinod (29), who hails from Ravindranagar area and of late employed in Chennai, hanged himself from a ceiling fan inside his room in a local lodge here while his wife Laxmi (30) consumed sleeping pills to kill herself, they said.

Vinod got married to Laxmi, a widow with two children, two months back, police said.

Aakash 4 to have calling facility, 4G services support

The next model of low-cost tablet under Aakash project will possess calling facility and high speed 4G services support, as per specifications released by government.

The specifications released by government suggest it will have “Driver for Phone Functionality with external dongle” and support “Data functionality with external 2G or 3G or 4G dongle”.

The Aakash project was Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal’s brainchild when he was the HRD Minister.

The idea is to provide low-cost computing device at subsidised rate to students so that they can access Internet for educational purposes.

Kevin Rudd appoints record number of women in cabinet

Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on Monday unveiled his new cabinet, including a record number of six women, along with the first ever Muslim in the country’s parliament.

Governor-General Quentin Bryce swore in the ministers this afternoon before a first cabinet meeting in Canberra.

Rudd named six women to his cabinet, the largest number in Australian parliamentary history.

Man arrested for uploading his wife’s porn video clip

A city businessman has been arrested for allegedly shooting pornographic video clips of his own wife and uploading these on to a social media website, police said here on Monday.

Incidentally, his wife had filed a domestic violence case against him last year, which had prompted businessman Dharmendra Jain, to shift to another house.

Dharmendra too had filed a divorce petition against his wife and another suit, for an injunction on her, for allegedly disposing off their property.

‘Refused Modi’s offer to rebuild Kedarnath temple’

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on Monday said that he turned down offer to rebuild Kedarnath shrine from his Gujarat counterpart Narendra Modi, adding that the temple will be rebuild by the state government, according to reports.

Last week Modi had met Vijay Bahuguna and offered to rebuild the Kedarnath temple complex, destroyed in the deluge.
