Sooraj Pancholi, who was in judicial custody for allegedly abetting actress Jiah Khan’s death, has got bail and returned home. His mother Zarina Wahab is relieved and says she is also praying for the “Nishabd” actor.

Sooraj, who was arrested June 10, was granted bail by Bombay High Court Monday. He has been ordered to pay a surety of Rs.50,000, surrender his passport and report to police whenever required for investigations. He returned home Tuesday evening.

CBI gives clean chit to Ishrat Jahan: Reports

Ishrat Jahan was not a terrorist, but the three others killed along with her in a fake encounter on the outskirts of Ahmedabad nine years ago had alleged terror links, the CBI has concluded in its chargesheet to be filed in the case before the Gujarat high court on Wednesday.

The reports came hours before the CBI is slated to file the chargesheet in the case. According to legal counsel to Ishrat Jahan’s mother, Mukul Sinha, the CBI will file the chargesheet this afternoon.

Govt files affidavit in SC, details steps to make CBI autonomous

The appointment of the CBI director by a collegium that includes the Prime Minister is among the steps the government intends to take to insulate the agency from political interference, the Supreme Court was informed on Wednesday.

The collegium would include the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha and the Chief Justice of India or a judge to be nominated by him, the government said in a 41-page affidavit, adding that the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act would be amended for this.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director would have a term of not less than two years.

Govt. ends minority students’ worries; to release Rs 185 crore

State government has agreed to release Rs. 185 crore for implementation of schemes such as fee reimbursement and scholarship by State Minority Finance Corporation. The funds can be released anytime by Finance department.

The move will end the worries of minority students generated because of non receipt of scholarships and fee-reimbursement. Besides this Rs. 51 crore has been released by central government to State Finance Department towards central government scholarships.

Man arrested with cartridges and released
(Siasat News): The immigration officials at Rajiv Gandhi International airport handed over a passenger to RGI police when they recovered cartridges from his possession.

As per the details, the passenger, Suryaprakash Shukla, 71, native of Lucknow was about to board a flight for Lucknow.

During the screening of his bag, cartridges of .32 were detected. He was handed over to RGI police.

After producing license for the cartridges, RGI police with due paper formalities, later released him.

Describing Food Security as a fundamental right of every Indian citizen, Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Atul Anjan on Wednesday lashed out at the ruling Congress Party at the Centre, saying it has failed to control poverty, illiteracy and price rise.

“Every citizen has a right to it, but the Central Government wants to divide this right and wants to create mystery among the people,” he said.

Anjan said every family should be provided with 35 kgs rice and wheat at the rate of Rs. two per kg or even less than that.

US court allows teaching yoga in California school

A US court has allowed teaching yoga in a Southern California district school as part of curriculum, rejecting the petition by parents that the ancient Indian practice is promoting Hindu religious beliefs.

San Diego Superior Court Judge John Meyer on Monday ruled that the yoga programme of Encinitas Union School District does not endorse any religion.

As such the judge rejected the plea of a section of parents of schools that the Encinitas Union School District in San Diego by providing instruction in Ashtanga yoga, is promoting religious beliefs.

Man, daughter hacked to death

A man and his daughter were hacked to death allegedly over a property dispute in Pallia area, police said today.

Dinesh Pal Singh (44) and his married daughter Rekha (24), residents of Banshinagar village, were hacked to death last evening while they were standing outside their house, they said.

Police said a property dispute in the family was stated to be the motive behind the murders.

Man rapes niece in Manipur

A man allegedly raped his minor niece at Tharoijam Maning Leikai village in Imphal West district of Manipur, police said today.

Irom Bobo (40) raped his 12-year-old niece in his house on Monday night. The girl ran out of the house crying and met women guards (‘Meira Paibis’ in Manipuri) who took her to the house of local gram panchayat pradhan Th Dwijamani.

Local residents yesterday barged into the house of Bobo, picked him up and handed him over to Patsoi Police Station.

US drone attack kills 18 in Pakistan

A US drone targeted a residential compound and a vehicle in northwest Pakistan’s restive tribal region close to the Afghan border, killing at least 18 suspected militants, officials said today.

The CIA-operated unmanned plane fired four missiles targeting the compound and the vehicle in Danday Darpakhel area in North Waziristan tribal region’s Miranshah last night.

“So far the reports show that around 18 people have been killed in the incident,” a security official.

The identity of those killed was immediately not known but the militants linked with al-Qaeda are active in the area.

Sikh couple forced to leave Movie Theater for wearing kripan

A Sikh couple was forced to leave a movie theater in California because of wearing kripan, a move which prompted them to seek an apology from the company – AMC Theaters – which runs the cinema complex.

The AMC Theaters on the other hand has justified its decision stating that it has banned weapons of any sorts in its 347 theaters across the United States and Canada.

“Our ‘no weapons’ policy prohibits guests from carrying weapons of any kind into our theaters. This national policy is for the safety and security of our guests and staff,” it said.

New antibiotic against bacterial diseases on cards

Australian researchers are developing a new antibiotic that may be effective against a wide range of bacterial diseases including Tuberculosis.

The existing antibiotics target only the bacterial cell membranes but this potential new antibiotic may be operated as a protein inhibitor which binds to an enzyme critical for metabolic processes, interrupting the life cycle of the bacteria.

According to The Advertiser daily report, Andrew Abell, the University of Adelaide’s acting head of the School of Chemistry and Physics, said the new compound operates differently to existing antibiotics.

Sharif leaves for China on maiden visit after assuming office

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today left for China on a five-day visit during which he will hold wide ranging talks with Chinese leadership aimed at further strengthening their ‘all-weather’ ties.

On his maiden foreign tour after assuming office, Sharif is accompanied by 11-member high-level delegation that include senior ministers, Punjab and Balochistan Chief Ministers and top officials.

Minor girl raped, killed in Arunachal

A minor girl was allegedly raped and killed before her body was thrown into a jungle at Bhalukpong in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh.

The three-year-old girl was raped and murdered by Labi Tuksa yesterday, police said today.

The minor was taken away from her house around 9 AM and then raped and murdered by the accused, leaving her body at a jungle area.

It was also learnt that the accused was well acquainted with the victim’s family and used to visit their home almost on a daily basis, police said.

Finally, BMC gets birth report of Shah Rukh’s surrogate baby

The veil of secrecy over actor Shah Rukh Khan’s third baby, born with the help of a surrogate mother, has been lifted with civic authority today confirming the development.

“Yes, we have received the birth report of Shah Rukh and Gauri Khan’s baby boy,” BMC additional municipal commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar told PTI.

As per details in the birth report, the baby boy was born on May 27 to parents listed as Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Shah Rukh Khan at the Masrani Hospital for Women in suburban Andheri.

The couple already has son Aryan and daughter Suhana.

Regulator rejects proposal to hike user fees at Bangalore airport

The Airports Economic Regulatory Authority has turned down Bengaluru International Airport Ltd’s (BIAL) proposal to increase User Development Fee (UDF) by 239 per cent for domestic and 79 per cent for international departing passengers from the airport.

The regulator, while issuing a consultation paper last week, seeking stakeholders’ views on the issue, also said the proposal made by BIAL, a subsidiary of city-based infrastructure major GVK Group, to levy landing charges on all aircraft was not permissible as per the government orders.

Defence Minister AK Antony leaves New Delhi Thursday on a 4-day official visit to the People’s Republic of China (PRC).

He will be accompanied by a high level delegation including Defence Secretary R.K.Mathur; GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, Lt General Dalbir Singh; FOC-in-C, Southern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Satish Soni and other officers of MoD and the Armed Forces.

Congress avoids commenting on Beni’s verbal attack on Mulayam

Congress Party on Wednesday distanced itself from Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma’s controversial remark on Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Congress leader Jagdambika Pal said the ruling party at the Centre considers Mulayam Singh Yadav as a respected leader.

“Our party spokesperson has very clearly stated that the Congress distances itself from his comment. The Congress Party considers Mulayam Singhji as a respected leader. If the party has distanced himself from his comment, then I think there is nothing to say on the issue,” he said.

More US wives cheating on husbands

The number of American women cheating on their husbands has considerably increased in the past two decades, a report has revealed.

According to the National Opinion Research Centre’s General Social Survey, the percentage of wives having affairs rose by almost 40 per cent in the past two decades to 14.7 per cent in 2010, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

However, the number of men admitting to extramarital affairs remained constant at 21 per cent.
