Pradesh Congress Committee President B Satya Narayana has appointed Syed Yousuf Hashmi as Secretary Pradesh Congress Committee for second term. Syed Yousuf Hashmi who represents old city of Hyderabad is associated with Congress for a long time.

He had been general secretary and vice present of Hyderabad City Congress and also served as the director of SETWIN. He contested from Charminar assembly constituency in 1994 on Congress ticket.

Young professionals falling prey to heart attacks

Heart disease is no longer restricted to the middle-aged and the old. Long working hours at the desk, little physical exercise and unhealthy eating habits are also taking a toll on working professionals in their late twenties and early thirties, experts say.

According to the India Today-Saffolalife Study conducted on 46,000 urban Indians, 78 percent of those aged between 30 and 34 run the risk of a heart attack, Kanchan Naikawadi, Director, Indus Health Plus (P) Ltd. said.

In last few months, 30-year-old TV actor Abir Goswami and 20-plus Kannada actor Hemanth died of a heart attack.

Five Indian-American children are among 54 winners of a nationwide recipe challenge to promote healthy lunches as part of the First Lady’s Let’s Move! Initiative invited to a “State Dinner” at White House Tuesday.

The group will join First Lady Michelle Obama for a healthy lunch, featuring a selection of the winning recipes and a performance by singer Rachel Crow, followed by a visit to the White House kitchen garden, according to an official announcement.

One dead in garment factory collapse in Bhiwandi, many trapped

A worker was killed and at least 13 others injured when a two-storeyed building housing a garment factory collapsed in Kalher village near powerloom town of Bhiwandi in wee hours today.

More than 12 workers are feared trapped under the debris of the structure, BIG Garments, located in Arihant Compound campus which houses many godowns, they said.

According to police, around 40 workers were present in the building when it crumbled and efforts are on to extricate those trapped under the rubble. However, heavy rains are affecting the rescue operation.

‘One who tries to be Rambo in real life ends up like Mogambo’: Shakeel Ahmad

Congress spokesperson Shakeel Ahmad on Thursday poked fun at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, saying that ‘one who tries to be Rambo in real life ends up like Mogambo.’

Without taking the name of Modi, Ahmad said: “Some leaders of BJP are trying to portray one of its leaders as Rambo, who can climb hills and save lives of 15000 people.”

“So I have just said the one who tries to be Rambo ends up being a Mogambo,” Ahmad added.

Earlier, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh also poked fun at Modi, saying he is rightly called a ”feku”.

Dec 16 gangrape: Bus owner to be examined as witness today

The owner of the bus, in which a 23-year-old girl was gang-raped by six persons on December 16 last year, will on Thursday be produced as a prosecution witness to find out who he had handed over the custody of the vehicle on the fateful night.

On Wednesday, Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna issued warrant for Thursday for bus owner Dinesh Yadav and directed him to be present as a prosecution witness.

Yadav is lodged in Tihar Jail after his arrest for cheating while procuring the bus licences and plying it on Delhi roads illegally.

AK Antony’s China visit begins today

Defence Minister AK Antony is set to lead a high-level delegation to China beginning Thursday, his first since assuming the portfolio and two months after the stand-off in eastern Ladakh.

This will be the first visit by an Indian defence minister since 2006 when Pranab Mukherjee held the portfolio. In the three days that he will be in China, Antony is likely to land in Shanghai, hold talks in Beijing on July 05 and visit the Chengdu Military Region Command in South Western China.

He is also likely to call on Premier Li Keqiang.

Garment factory building collapses; 1 dead, 2 seriously injured

A two-storey building housing a garment factory has collapsed in Bhiwandi near Thane, killing one person and injuring 15 others.

The incident occurred around 1 am.

Rescue operation to bring those trapped in the debris is on.

Initial reports suggest that the building collapsed due to ongoing illegal construction to add third floor to the old structure.

This is the second building collapse in the Thane district in less than a fortnight.

Mumbai truck seizure: I-T puts cash haul at Rs 11 crore

Contrary to the hype, the cash seized from four trucks on way to Gujarat, outside Mumbai Central station here, has turned out to be modest Rs 11 crore and none of it was fake currency even as estimation of gold and other valuables is going on, sources said on Wednesday.

Four trucks carrying over 150 bags of cash and other valuables were seized by the investigating wing of Income Tax and National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday night following a tip-off on fake currency.

CBI chargesheet in Ishrat case will expose Modi, Amit Shah: Kamal Farooqi

Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Kamal Farooqi on Wednesday said that the 2004 Ishrat Jahan case was without any doubt a fake encounter, and added that the CBI chargesheet would expose the role of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his former Home Minister Amit Shah in the case.

“This is for certain that it was a fake encounter and there is no doubt that the girl was first arrested and then later killed under mysterious circumstances leading to dubious encounter,” Farooqi said.

Man held for making abusive calls gets bail

An engineer arrested for allegedly making abusive phone calls to daughter of senior BJP leader M Venkiah Naidu was today granted bail by a court here.

Principal Sessions Judge G Chokkalingam allowed the bail application of Ramesh Kumar, arrested on June 22 on a complaint by Deepa Venkat, daughter of Naidu and a businesswoman based here.

Venkat, in her complaint to cyber crime police, had stated that she was receiving “abusive and menacing calls” frequently from a particular mobile number.

Toddler dies as home remedy turns toxic

A two-year-old girl baby suffering from diarrhoea died today after her mother gave her an overdose of some home-made mixture allegedly suggested by a local Siddha doctor, police said.

The woman had taken the child to the Siddha practitioner and as suggested by him had given the mixture of honey, medicated camphor and powdered pepper to stop diarrhoea.

However, as the girl’s condition worsened, she was rushed to the Government Hospital at Palayamkottai here.

UAE group to distribute dates to 15 countries

The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Humanitarian Foundation of the UAE will ship 241 tonnes of dates, by sea and air, to 15 countries around the world, including India, prior to the holy month of Ramadan.

The foundation is keen to improve the lives of people who suffer under difficult circumstances and wants to help provide some of their needs in cooperation with the embassies in those countries.

Egyptian army suspends constitution

The head of the Egyptian army has announced the suspension of the country’s constitution, which means President Mohammed Morsi is no longer in power, BBC reported.

General Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi, flanked by religious and military leaders, said Wednesday that the chief justice of constitutional court would take the powers of the presidency.

Anti-Morsi protesters in Cairo’s Tahrir Square cheered in response to the speech.

The move followed four days of mass street protests against Morsi, and an ultimatum issued by the military which expired Wednesday.

US orders evacuation of embassy staff from Egypt

The US State Department has ordered the evacuation of non-essential staff and family members from American missions in Egypt following the military’s ouster of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi.

“The Department of State ordered the departure of non-emergency US government personnel and family members from Egypt due to the ongoing political and social unrest,” Xinhua quoted the department as saying in a travel warning on its website.
