Student Commits Suicide Fearing Theft Case

A Class X student reportedly committed suicide fearing that a theft case might be registered against him.

Prashant, who completed Class X in Dharmaram, went to his school for collecting his certificates. But on the very day, the school Principal’s cell phone was found missing. When the principal threatened to go to the police, the student committed suicide. London will host the ninth World Islamic Economic Forum in October, organisers have announced, the first time that the event will be held outside of a Muslim country, as the British capital looks to become a global hub for Sharia finance.

More than 1,500 delegates, including government and business leaders, as well as scholars, will descend on London for the three-day event which sets out to boost trade partnerships between Islamic and European markets.

Driver’s revolver goes off in DTC office sparking panic

Panic gripped Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) Headquarters here today after a bullet was allegedly accidentally fired from a revolver by a driver who was brandishing his newly acquired weapon on the premises.

“The driver has been identified as Sunil (50). He has been booked under section 336 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for endangering public safety. Nobody was hurt in the incident,” said a senior police official.

Sunil fled from the spot soon after the incident and has been suspended by DTC.

Pakistan court orders cricket chairman re-election

A court in Pakistan today ordered the country’s cricket board to re-elect a chairman within 90 days after Zaka Ashraf was suspended over concerns about a dubious ballot.

The decision from the Islamabad high court came after petitioners challenged a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) ballot, which in May elected the incumbent chief Ashraf as chairman for four years.

The court last month termed Ashraf’s election in the new process as “dubious” and “polluted” and the government appointed Najam Sethi as interim chairman until Ashraf’s case was decided.

92000 emergency exit certificates issued to Indians in Saudi Arabia

Indian embassy in Saudi Arabia has issued as many as 92,000 emergency exit certificates by end of the first phase of grace period for those affected by labour law ‘Nitaqat’, Ambassador to the Kingdom Hamid Ali Rao said today even as India was in discussion with the country to streamline the visa regime to check fraudulent contractors.

According to the Saudi Ministry of Labour, 3.5 million workers have corrected their legal status since May 10, he said, adding “estimate is that at least 25 to 30 per cent these would be Indians”.

Youth arrested for raping minor, circulating MMS

A youth was arrested from Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district for allegedly raping a Class X girl student, filming the crime and posting it on the internet.

“We have arrested Sajjad Khan from Thanamandi area for rape and circulation of pornographic material,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajouri, Mubassir Latifi said.

“The victim was raped and the accused had taken her pictures and video clip and spread them through the Internet,” he said.

Man sent to police custody for threatning to commit suicide

A man was taken into police custody as he threatened to commit suicide immediately after the Delhi High court passed an order allowing his lover, a married woman who was living with him, to go with her husband.

Shankar Yogi, who hails from Rajasthan, threatened before the bench of justices Kailash Gambhir and Indermeet Kaur which allowed 27 year-old Chandni Devi, mother of a child, to go with her husband Paramatma Nand Sharma, a Delhi resident from Jaitpur area.

Note on enhanced air traffic rights between India, Abu Dhabi

The Civil Aviation Ministry is revising a note for the Union Cabinet on the enhanced bilateral air traffic rights between India and Abu Dhabi, following concerns raised by some political leaders over it.

But there is no question of revising the number of seats already agreed upon with Abu Dhabi under the bilateral air traffic agreement in April. Under an MoU, both sides had decided to increase the number of seats by 36,670 seats per week over three years, taking the total to 50,000.

‘No one punished in UP for sex determination in 20 years’

Not a single person has been punished since the enactment of Prohibition of Sex selection Act 20 years ago in Uttar Pradesh, state health minister Ahmed Hassan said and emphasised on training advocates and policemen so that the guilty do not go scot free.

As per the latest census, a decline in sex ratio has been registered in 64 districts of UP, the health minister said.

Six arrested for excommunicating over inter-caste marriages

Nashik police today arrested six persons, including a head of ‘Jaat Panchayat’ (community body), for excommunicating a few families over inter-caste marriages.

Anna Navasa Hingmire and members of four other families, all belonging to Joshi-Kurbude community, a nomadic tribe, had lodged a complaint with the police that they had been excommunicated by the Panchayat.

A year ago, Hingmire’s daughter married a youth belonging to Jain community.

Gunmen today shot dead one of the most high-profile female police officers in Afghanistan, underlining the threat to women who take on public roles in the country.

Lieutenant Islam Bibi was a well-known face of female advancement, but admitted to receiving regular death threats from people who disapproved of her career — including from her own brother.

“She was shot by unknown assailants when she was being driven to work by her son in the morning,” Helmand provincial government spokesman Omar Zwak told AFP.

Man arrested for raping tenant

A man was arrested today for allegedly raping a 24-year-old woman, who along with her family, stayed as a tenant in his house in Shalimar Garden area here.

The victim, her husband and their three-year-old daughter stayed in the second floor of the house owned by Nazim, Shalimar Garden police outpost in-charge Iftqar Qureshi said.

Nazim raped the woman when she was alone in the house last afternoon, he said, adding the landlord threatened her of dire consequences if she informed anyone about the incident.

Taking exception to proposals like ‘Rayala-Telangana’ (formation of a separate Telangana state by making two Rayalaseema districts a part of it), he said that such options destroy the very existence of Rayalaseema.

German trust in US plunges amid spy claims: survey

The trust Germans have in the United States has plunged amid the spying and surveillance claims made by fugitive intelligence contractor Edward Snowden, a poll has shown.

Only 49 per cent of survey respondents saw the US as a trustworthy partner, down from 65 per cent before the spy claims and the lowest level since George W Bush was president, the survey said.

The phone poll of 1,005 random respondents was conducted by ARD public television between July 1 and 3.

Doctors advised family to unplug Mandela’s life support

Doctors treating Nelson Mandela said he was in a “permanent vegetative state” and advised his family to turn off his life support machine a week ago, court documents showed today.

The June 26 court filing, obtained by AFP, shows for the first time just how close the still critically ill 94-year-old came to death.

“He is in a permanent vegetative state and is assisted in breathing by a life support machine,” lawyers said on behalf of 15 family members including his wife and three daughters.
