UAE’s tourism agency gets Adam Smith award

The Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC), in charge of developing tourism and cultural destinations in Abu Dhabi, has received the Adam Smith Award 2013 for best practice and innovation in the corporate treasury arena.

The Adam Smith Awards are the largest corporate treasury awards programme in the world. Celebrating its sixth edition, this year’s Adam Smith Awards attracted over 200 nominations across industry sectors from 25 countries.

Lady Gaga buys bag worth 37,000 pounds for beau

Pop star Lady Gaga reportedly bought her boyfriend, actor Taylor Kinney a crocodile skin backpack, designed and signed by renowned artist Damien Hirst for his 32nd birthday. It was worth 37,000 pounds (over $55,000).

The luxury backpack is covered with mini-versions of Hirst’s spot paintings – rows of randomly coloured circles. It also comes with a gold-plated brass feet to rest it on.

“Taylor loves his backpacks so she wanted to get him a real one-of-a-kind, only 12 have been made,” femalefirst.co.uk quoted a source as saying.

Sharjah Islamic Bank to employ 50 new graduates

The Sharjah Islamic Bank aims to recruit 50 new Emirati graduates from the current academic year and appoint them in various departments and branches.

The bank will organise an “Open Emiratisation Day” under the theme “My Future toward Professionalism” at the bank’s headquarters in Sharjah July 7.

The bank said it was eager to attract new Emirati graduates and develop their career skills and enable national talents to play an important role in the growth of Islamic banking in the country.

Travel ban imposed on Morsi

Egypt’s General-Prosecutor Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud has ordered a travel ban on ousted president Mohamed Morsi and 35 other leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood for investigations on killing protesters, state-run Al-Ahram news website reported.

The ban was also slapped on Mohamed Saad al-Katatni, leader of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party, Rashad al-Bayoumi, deputy general guide of the group, and some staff members of Islamic TV channels, Xinhua said.

Development in rural areas possible only during TDP rule: Naidu

President of TDP Mr Chandra Babu Naidu told that the development of rural areas is possible on in TDP rule.Mr.Naidu was addressing a regional convention in Krishna district yesterday. So long as TDP was in power it concentrated on the development of rural areas .He expressed the hope that TDP will be successful in many constituencies in the Gram Panchayat elections because TDP had extended basic amenities to the poor during its rule. Muslim Brotherhood’s top leader arrested

Egypt’s military forces have arrested the Muslim Brotherhood’s top leader Mohamed Badie, a day after ousting brotherhood-affiliated president Mohamed Morsi, Xinhua reported.

Acting prosecutor general Ahmed Ezz el-Din Thursday ordered the arrest warrant for the Muslim Brotherhood’s leader on charges of inciting the killing of anti-Morsi protesters.

The warrant also includes Badei’s deputy, Kirate El-Shater.

War of words in Ramzaan review meeting

CM of AP Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy convened a review meeting yesterday. In this meeting a war of words took place between Hyderabad MP and chairman of Minorities commission.

When Mr Abid Rasool Khan, Chairman of Minorities commission expressed the difficulties of the traffic in Hyderabad,the MP of Hyderabad did not agree with his views and said that as a public representative, he understands these issues better than him. Rs 2.5 cr for Ramzaan arrangements

CM of AP,Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy told yesterday that it is the top priority of the state government to maintain law and order situation during Ramzaan and Bonalu festivals. Dressing a meeting of higher officials and public representatives, the CM said that communal harmony should be maintained during these festivals since Bonalu and Ramazn are occurring in the same month. He requested the political and religious leaders to extend their cooperation in this regard.

Heavily pregnant woman among 100 Syrians rescued off Italy

The Italian coastguard has intercepted a boat off the island of Sicily with 100 Syrian migrants on bord, including 10 women, one whom was heavily pregnant.

A police vessel accompanied the migrant boat into the port at Syracuse on Sicily’s eastern coast, where medical checks were carried out on the migrants, who were all said to be in good health.

An aerial patrol by police located the migrants. Police had received information that a boat had set sail from Egypt for Sicily.

Municipal elections likely in August

CM of AP Mr.N Kiran Kumar Reddy has indirectly hinted at holding Municipal elections in the month of August, He issued instructions to officials to get ready for these elections. He held a meeting with the officials responsible for Municipal elections. He instructed them to take steps for merging certain villages in the municipal limits while stressing the need to complete the elections immediately after the local bodies elections. It is reported that he issues directions to Mr PK Mohanty to contact the concerned officials and review the steps taken by them for municipal elections.

Coal blocks allotted to AP GENCO

Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy,CM of AP thanked Dr. Manmohan Singh and Ms Sonia Gandhi. For allotting 701 million tones of coal blocks to AP GENCO.He told that the allotment of the coal blocks in larger quantity is a great success of the state.On account of this allotment the state will be able to produce 4000 MW electricity.AP GENCO had represented coal ministry for the allotment upto 31st December. The Ministry of coal allotted these blocks on the recommendations of Sarah Paul,Noah para coal block ministerial committee. It is said that after NTPC and Oddisha, AP is the largest allottee of Coal.

The meeting of National Council of All India Students Federation began yesterday at Makhdoom bhavan,Himayatnagar.Issues regarding education will be discussed. Mandela not in vegetative state: South African government

The South African government has dismissed media reports that said anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela was in a permanent vegetative state with a life support machine keeping him alive in hospital.

“The Presidency has noted media reports about the condition of former president Mandela and would like to make a clarification,” Xinhua quoted the Presidency as saying in a statement.

On Thursday, some South African media report said Mandela was in a permanent vegetative state and that a life support machine was keeping him alive.

Employees to get pension on the day of retirement: CM

CM of AP Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy has instructed Dr PK Mohanty,Chief Secretary to ensure giving pension orders to employees on the day of their retirement. The CM also also told the Chief Secretary to formulate such regulations which would make possible to submit pension papers prior to their retirements to enable to issue pension orders on the last day of their working.

Vatican reports 2.2 mn euro profit amid drop in donations

The Vatican posted a budget surplus of 2.2 million euros for the 2012 fiscal year, although its charitable offerings fell, the Holy See said.

A panel of cardinals who approved the balance sheet said the 2,185,622-euro profit was largely due to good financial management.

But the Vatican noted a 12-percent drop in donations from ordinary faithful and more than a five-percent drop in contributions from religious orders.

Pope to ‘cry for the dead’ in Lampedusa

Pope Francis will visit migrants on Italy’s southernmost island of Lampedusa and “weep for the dead”, papal secretary Alfred Xuereb said.

“His visit signals that while there are wealthy, wasteful people in the North, there are people who come to us in search of a better life but instead are often greeted with death,” Xuereb said.

In his first trip as pontiff outside the Rome area, Pope Francis will visit Lampedusa Monday and celebrate mass with migrants at an immigration centre notorious for its overcrowded conditions.
