India’s challenge in the Asian Table Tennis Championships ended today after four male paddlers, including Achanta Sharath Kamal, failed to advance to the pre-quarterfinals of the men’s singles competition, here today.

Sharath Kamal (68) was comprehensively beaten by 44th ranked Chinese Zhou Yu in four games at Sajik Gymnasium here.

Shashi Tharoor discharged in national anthem case

In a relief to Union Minister Shashi Tharoor, a court here today discharged him in the 2008 national anthem case.

Allowing his discharge petition, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate M Manoj held that no case has been made out against Tharoor, which if rebutted, would warrant his conviction. The court also observed that Tharoor had ‘not intentionally’ prevented singing of the national anthem.

Jharkhand alliance ”Opportunistic”, says Rajiv Pratap Rudy

BJP won’t oppose food security bill: Rajnath

Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh Saturday said that his party would not oppose the the National Food Security Bill in parliament but would seek amendments to it.

Speaking to media persons after meeting Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Mohan Bhagwat at the RSS headquarters here, he termed the ordinance promulgated by the government as “a cruel joke”.

PCB claims lack of bilateral series with India cost them 80 mln dollars

: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has claimed that it had lost approximately 80 million dollars in its broadcasting deal with the Dubai-based Ten Sports that ended last month, due to a lack of bilateral series with India. According to the Daily Times, Pakistan toured India in December 2012 for a short one-day series, the first bilateral series between the two countries since 2007, although India has refused to play Pakistan or even in Pakistan since 2008 and also cancelled a full tour in early 2009.

Two B.Tech men promised jobs, duped of Rs.15 lakh

Two B. Tech degree holders were duped of around Rs.15 lakh by a man who promised to get them jobs in a steel firm in Andhra Pradesh, said a Delhi Police official Saturday. The accused was arrested from a city hotel.

US added 195000 jobs in June

The US economy added 195,000 new jobs in June, which was well above economists’ expectations of 165,000. The data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that the jobless rate remained steady at 7.6 percent of the workforce. According to the BBC, leisure and hospitality industry saw the maximum number of jobs in June, as employers hired workers for the summer season. If the US economy continues to add jobs at this pace, the unemployment rate should fall from its current 7.6 percent to 6.5 percent by the end of 2014, the report said.

850 injured, 26 dead following Egyptian army firing on Morsi’s supporters

Nearly 26 have died and 850 injured after fighting erupted across Egypt between supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi and their opponents. The violence took place as Morsi’s supporters held massive protests across the country, calling for his reinstatement. 15 killed in Pak accident

At least 15 people, including a woman and two children, were killed today when a moving train crushed a packed motorcycle rickshaw at a railway crossing in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

The motorcycle rickshaw carrying 16 people was passing through the unmanned railway crossing in Sheikhupura, about 40 kilometres from here, when it was hit by a Lahore-bound train coming from Karachi, rescue work spokesman Jam Sajjad told PTI.
