Bollywood’s dancing diva Madhuri Dixit, who portrays a powerful character in the woman-centric “Gulaab Gang”, says she isn’t a feminist but is all for strong and independent women.

“I don’t think I’m a feminist. I am independent and strong, which is what women should be like,” Madhuri said a press conference here at 14th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) extravaganza.

Bollywood, the 46-year-old, also said that the “progress of women is being reflected in films”.

Raina, Jadeja involved in heated argument over dropped catch

Indian players Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina were involved in a heated on-field argument over a dropped catch during India’s tri-series match against the West Indies yesterday.

India crushed West Indies by 102 runs via Duckworth-Lewis Method in a rain-curtailed match but the ugly incident involving the duo seemed to be a blot in an otherwise facile win.
The video footages of the incident had been posted on the Youtube and has seen several hits.

Monsoon 25% excess; more rain in hills, abates in plains

India’s summer monsoon was 25 per cent surplus since its normal onset on June 1 with the weather office predicting heavy rains next weeks in some parts of hill states, including Uttarakhand which was ravaged by floods last month.

Barring east and north-eastern India, monsoon has been surplus across the other four broad regions with north-west comprising Rajasthan, UP, Uttarakhand, Himachal, J&K, Punjab and Haryana getting 85 per cent excess rains since onset.

Girl hangs self in police station

A 16-year-old girl today allegedly hanged herself in women’s police station here, a day after her parents refused to take her home as she had eloped with her boyfriend.

According to Superintendent of Police (City), Sripati Misra, the girl had fled from her home in Rajgarh village of
Machchlishahr area with her friend on June 3.

Yesterday, she was found at bus station, the SP said.

When we informed her family members about the girl they said that they had nothing to do with her and she was kept at
the ‘mahila thana’ where she hanged herself with her a scarf today, he said.

Civic body employee found dead

A 42-year-old employee of one of the Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCD) was found dead inside a park in Central Delhi’s Kamla Market area here today, police said.

The deceased has been identified as one Chandar Bhan, a fourth class employee of MCD.

According to the police, the incident was reported when morning walkers informed neighbours and people around the area about a body in the park.

Chandar Bhan’s family rushed to the spot and identified him. There were no major injury marks on the body although his eyes were swollen.

The case of Deepan Budlakoti, 23, has caught the attention of the Canadian media, a section of which has described his predicament as Kafkaesque.

Budlakoti was born Oct 19, 1989 to Indian parents who had come to work as household support staff at the Indian High Commission in Ottawa.

Six AMU medical students suspended for misconduct

Six medical students of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU)have been placed under suspension for alleged misconduct, a university official said Saturday.

Couple arrested for having sex in motel with curtain wide open

A couple has been arrested for having sex in a motel with the curtains open for every one to see.

Skeeter Levi Judd, 19, and Andrea Rose Mazzocchi, 20, were charged in South Carolina for engaging in a lewd, obscene act, the New York Daily News reported.

They also face charges of disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

Men can tolerate shopping just for 26 minutes with a female partner before they become bored, a new study has revealed.

According to London Telegraph, research conducted by Quidco.com, also found that women get tired of shopping after a couple of hours if they fail to find anything to buy, News.com.au reported.

The study of 2000 Britons suggested that eight in 10 men found clothes shopping with their partner boring.

Around 45 per cent people admitted that they avoid shopping with their female partners all together.

Rajnath Singh meets RSS leaders, says ”Advani is not upset”

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh, who met senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) functionaries here on Saturday, ruled out reports over party patriarch Lal Krishna Advani being upset over the new power equation in the outfit.

“Advaniji is not upset. There are no differences in our party. As far as Advaniji is concerned, he is our tallest leader and a guide,” he told the media here.

Apple co-founder, Steve Wozniak, who visited Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and baby North West in the hospital just a day after the birth, has now opened up about the meeting.

The visit was set up by Kardashian for Kanye”s birthday as she wanted the two to meet for a surprise lunch and have Wozniak sign one of two Apple Pro Computer mice, ABC News reported.

The other mouse had already been signed by Steve Jobs.
