Five footballers arrested over sexual assault charges

Five footballers belonging to the English club Crewe Alexandra have been arrested on the suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman in Redruth, while being on a pre-season training camp in Cornwall. According to BBC, Devon and Cornwall Police held five men at custody centres in Camborne and Newquay, and a statement said that the incident was alleged to have happened in a property in Redruth, with a complaint being lodged soon after.

US added 195000 jobs in June

The US economy added 195,000 new jobs in June, which was well above economists’ expectations of 165,000.

The data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that the jobless rate remained steady at 7.6 percent of the workforce.

According to the BBC, leisure and hospitality industry saw the maximum number of jobs in June, as employers hired workers for the summer season.

If the US economy continues to add jobs at this pace, the unemployment rate should fall from its current 7.6 percent to 6.5 percent by the end of 2014, the report said.

Spending too much time with mobile phones can harm your health, a new research has revealed.

The study conducted by Kent State University found that students, who spent lot of time on their phone- up to 14 hours each day- were less fit than those spending about 1 and a half hour a day, New York Daily News reported.

The report also said that people, who spent more time on their mobile devices, were more likely to engage in other sedentary forms of entertainment, like playing video games or watching films.

US man builds pirate ship in backyard for wedding

A resident of Illinois, US, who dreamt of marrying on a ship, has built a pirate vessel in the backyard of his house.

The ship has however landed Tony Miller in trouble, as the local authorities claimed that he had not followed Winnebago County’s code of conduct, and forgot to obtain the permit required to build the ship, the New York Daily News reported.

But after discussing with county officials, Miller thinks he has reached an agreement and can finish the vessel for his August 3 wedding to fiancee Kaela Schenk.

Haqqani, Al Qaeda commanders killed in recent US drone strikes in Pakistan

Nearly 17 people were killed, including a ‘commander’ of the Haqqani network and an Al Qaeda operative, in drone strike in North Waziristan earlier this week.

Official sources said that those killed in the strike included Mullah Akhtar Zadran, a ‘commander’ of the Haqqani network, and Abu Saif Al-Jazeri, an operative of Al Qaeda.

According to Dawn News, two Punjabi militant ‘commanders’, Rana Ashraf and Naveed Butt, are also said to be killed in the strike.

Sources said that the other 13 victims were ‘foot soldiers’. However, there was no independent confirmation of the claim. (ANI)

Attacks on religious places won’t be tolerated: PM

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Sunday “strongly condemned” the serial blasts in and around the Mahabodhi temple in Bodh Gaya and said “such attacks on religious places will never be tolerated”.

The prime minister also wished speedy recovery to the injured.

In a message, the prime minister said India’s “composite culture and traditions teach us respect for all religions and such attacks on religious places will never be tolerated”.

At least two Buddhist monks were injured in multiple blasts at Bihar’s 1,500-year-old Mahabodhi temple in Bodh Gaya district, police said.

Bodh Gaya serial blasts a terror attack: Home Ministry

Serial explosions inside andoutside Mahabodhi temple in Bihar were a terror attack, the Home Ministry said on Sunday as it sent NIA and NSG teams for investigations.

“It was a terror attack,” Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami told PTI.

He, however, said so far no group has claimed responsibility for the multiple blasts and investigations were on.

Goswami said four blasts took place inside the temple complex while four occurred outside.

State govt. relaxes working hours during Ramadan

State government has issued orders allowing all Muslim government employees to leave the office one hour before the office hours i.e. at 4 pm, from July 11 to August 8.

Mahabodhi temple, Buddha idol safe in serial blasts

The Mahabodhi temple complex structure has not suffered any damage, said a top official here Sunday following a string of bombings that left two monks injured in Bihar’s Bodh Gaya.

“The temple complex structure has not suffered any damage. The monastery and the statue of Lord Buddha are safe,” union Home Secretary Anil Goswami told reporters here.

According to the home ministry, blasts took place in quick succession between 5.30 a.m. and 6 a.m. in the temple complex and near the Bodhi tree.

“Eight blasts took place inside the Mahabodhi temple between 5.30 a.m and 6 a.m.”

BJP condemns Bodhgaya blasts, says terrorism needs to be taken seriously

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday condemned the serial blasts in Bodhgaya and asked the Central government to take the matter seriously and practise zero tolerance towards terrorism.

“If there were intelligence reports about a possible terror attack, then why was no action taken. Those who are trying to control the Intelligence Bureau for vote-bank should think about this,” said BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad.

“It”s disturbing that such an important temple site was attacked. This temple is an important site for the whole nation,” he said.

BJP plays ”IB politics” over Bodhgaya blasts

Condemning the serial blasts in Bodhgaya, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said that the Central government should have taken the intelligence reports about a possible terror attack seriously instead of indulging in appeasement and vote-bank politics.

“We condemn the incident. When there were intelligent inputs, they should be taken seriously. Stringent actions should be taken,” BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

Government may alter diesel, LPG pricing to cut subsidy burden

The government is likely to alter the way diesel and cooking fuels are priced to reduce its subsidy burden, which appears to be spiralling out of hand due to the falling rupee.
Since the last fiscal, the Finance Ministry has pushed for refiners to be paid the equivalent of rates they would have realised if diesel, kerosene and LPG were exported. A departure from the import parity price (import price plus duties and transportation) mechanism would have shaved Rs.17,618 crore from last fiscal’s Rs.161,029 crore subsidy bill.

Newbie Shraddha Kapoor will be seen doing an item number in Karan Johar`s upcoming project `Ungli`.
