“The proof of the pudding is in the eating”, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said today, emphasising he would love to see what Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will do to improve ties with India.

Describing as “heartening” some of the statements emanating from Islamabad after Sharif’s return to power, Omar told PTI here that improved relationship between India and Pakistan benefitted his state which suffers when Indo-Pak ties turn sour.

BJP asks Digvijay Singh to get admitted in a ”mental asylum”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday hit back at Digvijay Singh for targetting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi following yesterday”s multiple blasts in the temple town of Bodh Gaya, and advised the Congress General Secretary to get admitted in a ”mental asylum”.

“I will advice Congress Party and its leader Digvijay Singh to get admitted in a mental asylum. He has no idea. He has accused all such non-sensing in Batla House incident. People of UP have taught him a lesson. And I have nothing to say about a bankrupt person,” said BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan.

BJP hits back at Mayawati, says ”anybody can see dreams of becoming PM”

A day after Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati attacked Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and said that he is not fit for the Prime Minister”s post, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday said anybody can see dreams in a democracy, and added that its parliamentary board would make an announcement in this regard at an appropriate time.

BJP leader Dharmendra Pradhan said that his party would unfold its strategy regarding Prime Ministership at right time.

BJP dares Congress, says ”its ready to face snap polls”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday said it is ready to face snap polls if the ruling Congress Party opts for it.

Senior BJP leader Ananth Kumar, who was talking to the media here after his party”s Parliamentary Board meeting, alleged that the Congress might go for early polls.

Highlighting the failures of the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre, he said the BJP would go to polls with development and good governance as its main agenda.

Pakistani hacker downs 13 Goa government websites

A hacker, allegedly from a Pakistan-based cyber group, has hacked several Goa government websites over the last few days, a government spokesperson said Monday.

The spokesperson said that H4x0r HuSsy, an id used to access the site, belongs to a group of hackers from Pakistan, who have targeted state government websites for the second time in the last few years.

Muslim group condemns attack on Buddhist temple

The All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat (AIMMM), the umbrella body of Muslim organisations, has condemned the terror attack on the Mahabodhi temple in Bihar.

AIMMM president Zafarul-Islam Khan described the attack as “cowardly” and “utterly inhuman”.

He said in a statement: “We have all the goodwill for our Buddhist brothers and sisters and want the best of relations with them all over the world.”

A string of bomb attacks rocked the Mahabodhi temple premises, where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment, Sunday morning, injuring two monks.

Modi, Rajnath to form BJP panels for 2014 polls

The BJP parliamentary board Monday said it will force the Congress to fight the Lok Sabha elections on the issues of “good governance and development”, and authorised Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and party chief Rajnath Singh to form panels to steer the campaign.

Briefing reporters after a board meeting here, party general secretary Ananth Kumar said panels will be formed to prepare a “charge sheet” against the UPA government, the BJP’s manifesto and campaign programme. The party was ready for snap polls, he said.

1984 riots: CBI, two acquitted men get court notice

The Delhi High Court Monday issued notice to the CBI and two accused who were acquitted of murder charges in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

A bench of Justice G.S. Sistani and Justice G.P. Mittal sought the response of the probe agency by Aug 27 on the appeal filed by Jagdish Kaur and Nirpreet Kaur, both relatives of riot victims.

The two women challenged the trial court’s order that acquitted former Delhi legislator Mahender Yadav and Kishan Khokkar of the charges of murder, while sentencing them to three years in jail for rioting.

India, Albania sign agreement for avoidance of double taxation

The Government of India signed here today an agreement for avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to Taxes on Income and on Capital (DTAA) with Government of Albania.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Sudha Sharma, Chairperson, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), on behalf of the Government of India and Fatos Kerciku, Ambassador, Republic of Albania on behalf of the Government of Albania.

Dec 16 gangrape: court completes prosecution evidence

A Delhi court today completed recording of the evidence of prosecution witnesses in the December 16 gangrape case with the investigating officer (IO),saying she had arrested accused after the incident was reported.

Now the statements of the prosecution witness stands closed,” the court said while fixing July 10 to begin
recording of the statements of the accused who will explain the circumstances appearing in the evidence against them in response to queries put by the judge.

Two arrested for poaching peacock

Two persons were arrested for allegedly poaching a peacock at Tuglakpur village here, police said.

Liyakat and Zishan were arrested yesterday and a body of the national bird and a gun were seized from their
possession, they said.

The accused were produced in court later which sent them to 14 day-judicial custody, police said, adding that a case
has been registered in this connection.

Militant cleric Abu Qatada asks for bail in Jordan

A radical Muslim preacher deported from Britain to Jordan to face a retrial on terrorism charges has asked to be released on bail pending trial.

Prosecutors have charged the cleric, Abu Qatada, with conspiring to carry out terrorist attacks against Israelis,
Americans and other Westerners in Jordan in two foiled plots in 1999 and 2000.

The 53-year-old militant preacher was deported from Britain to Jordan yesterday.

Abu Qatada’s lawyer, Tayseer Thiab, says he submitted a formal bail request for his client today.

UK to ban 2 Islamist extremist groups

Two Islamist extremist groups — UK-based Minbar Ansar Deen and Nigeria-based radical sect Boko Haram — are to be proscribed in Britain under terrorism laws, making membership and support for them a criminal offence.

UK home secretary Theresa May has issued an order which, once approved by Parliament, will ban both organisations from operating in the UK from Friday, according to the ‘Guardian’ newspaper.

32-yr-old man found dead

Body of a 32-year-old man was today found near a college in Ramrai village here, police said.

The deceased, identified as Vijender, was allegedly stabbed with a sharp edged weapon, they said.

A case has been registered against unidentified persons from the same village after the victim’s father alleged an old enmity to be the motive behind the murder.

According to the victim’s father, some persons who have an old rivalry with his son were seen outside their house last night, Inquiry Officer Surajbhan said.

Blast targeting pro-govt tribal elder kills 6 in Pakistan

At least six people were killed and 10 other injured when a suicide bomber today targeted a pro- government tribal elder in northwestern Pakistan.

The incident occurred as the bomber rammed his motorcycle with the vehicle of tribal elder Habibullah Wazir in Hangu
district bordering Kurram agency, police officer Sajjad Khan said.

But, the condition of Habibullah is yet to be confirmed.

The injured were shifted to Hangu’s District Headquarter Hospital.

No militant group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Osama bin Laden’s family had entered into Pakistan way back in October/November 2001, just around 9/11 while the then al-Qaeda chief joined them in Peshawar in mid-2002, a media report today said quoting the findings of the Abbottabad Commission Report here.

The Report, which is yet to be made public, contains a treasure trove of information on the hunt for the world’s most wanted man – Osama Bin Laden, the Dawn daily reported.

Snowden reveals US partnership with German intelligence

The US National Security Agency (NSA) worked closely with the German intelligence service and many other western countries, whistleblower Edward Snowden told German magazine Der Spiegel.

Snowden alleged that the German intelligence knew more about the NSA’s activities in the country than previously known, Xinhua reported.

The whistleblower said the NSA was “in bed together with the Germans” as well as most other Western states, Xinhua reported.

Chinese province suspends study tours after US plane crash

A province in China has suspended overseas study tours after two Chinese girl students, on a summer trip to the US, died in a plane crash in San Francisco, officials said Monday.

The two teenaged girls from a middle school in Jiangshan city in eastern Zhejiang province died when an Asiana Airlines Flight 214 crashed, with 141 Chinese citizens among 291 people onboard, Xinhua reported.

The education bureau in Quzhou prefecture has told schools and other institutions to suspend all summer camps and study tours.

Four killed, five cops injured in UP accident

Four people were killed and five policemen injured when a speeding truck rammed into a police jeep and a small truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district Monday, police said.

Police had rounded up a truck with cattle and were taking it to the police station at 2 a.m. Monday.

When the jeep was escorting the truck, a speeding Canter small truck rammed into the truck and the jeep at Fukutuiyya village.

Baba Ramdev supports Modi for PM’s post

Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev on Monday said that he supported Narendra Modi for the Prime Minister’s post.

“Narendra Modi is a man of vision,” he said. “We want to see him as Prime Minister, therefore we are supporting him.”

Ramdev was here as a part of his ‘Yuva Swabhiman’ program. He also met RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat at the RSS headquarters here.

Targeting Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, Ramdev said he had no vision, and visited slums only for photo-ops and “picnics”.
