History of kidney stones ups risk of coronary heart disease in women

A history of kidney stones has been linked with an increased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) in women but not in men, according to a new study.

An analysis of data from three studies that involved a total of more than 240,000 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey reported the prevalence of a history of kidney stones of 10.6 percent in men and 7.1 percent in women.

72 pc of millionaires think they’re not wealthy

Majority of millionaires don’t consider themselves rich, a new study has revealed.

The study entitled ‘What is Wealthy?’ and conducted by investment bank UBS found that only 28 per cent of investors with between 1 million dollars and 5 million dollars in investable assets considered themselves rich, ABC News reported.

However, 40 percent of those with 5 million dollars in investable assets admitted that they didn’t feel they were rich.

Man arrested for abusing anti-sexism campaigner Caroline Criado-Perez on Twitter

A unidentified man has been taken under custody after a feminist campaigner Caroline Criado-Perez, was subjected to threats of sexual violence on Twitter.

According to Scotland Yard, a 21-year-old chap was apprehended earlier in Manchester in connection with the barrage of hostile tweets, the BBC reported.

The abuse started after she successfully campaigned for a woman’s face to appear on British banknotes.

Criado-Perez said that the abusive tweets began the day it was announced that author Jane Austen would appear on the newly designed 10 pound note.

The 20-year-old ran 10.57 seconds to break his previous record of 10.77. According to the BBC, Oliveira’s Sunday”s record was his second of the week after he broke Pistorius’ 200m world best on his way to winning that event in Lyon. At least 36 people have been feared dead when a coach plunged 30m (98ft) down a steep slope in Italy. According to the BBC, the coach hit several cars before coming off a flyover near the town of Avellino, in the Campania region injuring around 11 people.

New Zealand military denies spying on journalist in Afghanistan

New Zealand”s military chiefs on Monday denied authorizing illegal spying on an investigative journalist who reported unfavorably on the New Zealand Defence Force”s (NZDF) handling of prisoners in Afghanistan. Racist filmed abusing Pakistan-born taxi driver in New Zealand town

A foul-mouthed man has been caught on camera racially abusing a Pakistan-born taxi driver in New Zealand. The racist told the driver to go to where he came from and refused to pay his fare. According to news.com.au, driver Tariq Humayun remained calm and polite throughout the incident, which began after he picked the man up just after midnight from Invercargill. Egypt’s foreign minister urges restraint following army- Morsi supporters’ violence

Platinum-based chemotherapy drug key to testicular cancer `cure`

A platinum-based chemotherapy drug has upped the survival rate of British men suffering from testicular cancer by 96 per cent.

Figures compiled by Cancer Research UK show that 96 percent men have successfully been treated for testicular cancer, which is a big improvement since the 1970s when the survival rate was lower than 70 percent, the Independent reported.

Cisplatin had first been identified as a compound in the 19th century but researchers did not realise its application in oncology until the late 1970s.
