Bihar BJP removes spokesperson for opposing Modi

The Bharatiya Janata Party has removed Ram Kishore Singh as its Bihar spokesperson Tuesday, a day after he questioned Narendra Modi’s popularity and his development model.

State BJP president Mangal Pandey removed Ram Kishore Singh following action demanded by some party leaders, including former minister Giriraj Singh, who is a vocal supporter of the Gujarat chief minister.

“Party has also issued a show-cause notice to Singh in this connection,” Pandey said.

Dead biker’s mother demands CBI inquiry

The mother of the stunt biker who was shot dead by Delhi Police Monday has demanded a CBI inquiry into her son’s death.

“I want a CBI inquiry to be conducted because I do not believe in the investigation being conducted so far,” Manju Pandey, mother of the deceased Karan Pandey, told IANS Tuesday.

Karan Pandey was cremated Tuesday at the Malviya Nagar crematorium in south Delhi.

“The policeman who fired at my son should be arrested as he took his life without any reason,” she added.

Two infiltrators killed in Kashmir

Two militants were killed Tuesday in north Kashmir when the army foiled a second infiltration bid in two days from across the Line of Control (LoC).

Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh, commander of the army’s Srinagar-based 15 Corps said: “Today (Tuesday) morning, five to six terrorists tried to infiltrate in Machil sector. Two of them have been killed and the rest have run back across the LoC.”

IPL spot-fixing: BCCI probe panel illegal, Bombay HC says

In a severe blow to BCCI and its president-in-exile N Srinivasan, the Bombay high court on Tuesday held as “illegal and unconstitutional” the two-member probe panel set up by it to look into spot-fixing and betting charges in the IPL tournament.

The high court order comes just two days after the probe panel submitted its report on July 28 giving a clean chit to Srinivasan, his son-in-law and owner of Chennai Super Kings team Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra, owner of Rajasthan Royals and husband of actress Shilpa Shetty.

BCCI probe panel illegal: Bombay High Court

In a major setback to the Indian cricket board, the Bombay High Court Tuesday termed as illegal its committee probing the IPL-6 match- and spot-fixing scam.

The court also questioned the appointment of the two-member panel comprising retired Tamil Nadu High Court judges T. Jayaram Chouta and R. Balasubramanian. The panel had absolved IPL franchisees Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings of spot-fixing charges, besides bigwigs Raj Kundra and Gurunath Meiyappan, who are associated with the two teams.

Continuing its wining spree, Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress swept the three-tier panchayat polls in West Bengal, capturing 13 out of 17 Zilla Parishads, 213 out of 329 panchayat samities and 1763 out of 3215 gram panchayat seats.

The state election commission Tuesday declared the results of 3200 out of total 3215 gram panchayat seats. Meanwhile, results of 325 out of 329 panchayat samities were announced today.

Batla House convict Shahzad Ahmad gets life term

A Delhi court on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to India Mujahideen (IM) operative Shahzad Ahmad, who was convicted last week in the 2008 Batla House encounter case.

The court also fined Shahzad Rs 95,000 of which Rs 40,000 would be paid to family of slain inspector M C Sharma and Rs 20,000 to injured cop Balwant.

The prosecution had sought death penalty for Ahmad, saying it was a “rarest of rare case”. The Delhi Police had also demanded a death sentence for the lone convict, arguing that there were no mitigating circumstances favouring him.

Setback to Udhampur-Katra rail link project

In a setback to Udhampur-Katra rail link project, the work on the 25-km-long stretch has been slowed down after the unrest in Jammu and Kashmir over the BSF firing incident at Ramban.

The Katra line was expected to be operational by the end of August as work was going on full throttle. But now it is further delayed and likely to be commissioned in October this year.

Man strangulates wife to death in Muzaffarnagar

A man allegedly strangulated his wife to death in Jansath town after she failed to bear a child in their 12-year-long wedded life, police said on Tuesday.

Police recovered the body of the deceased Saera Begum (31) last night, when her accused husband Shamser Ali was trying to bury her at a graveyard, Superintendent of Police Jagat Ram Joshi said.

A case has been registered against Shamser Ali in this connection, they said.

The sunscreen has been developed by Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in partnership with skincare company Larissa Bright Australia.

Terming the reports of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s resignation as ‘incorrect and baseless’, the Congress on Tuesday hailed him as a very obedient soldier of the party.

Reacting to the speculation in media about Reddy’s possible exit in opposition to Congress’ decision to carve out a separate Telangana state, senior leader Renuka Chowdhary said, “Ï think the news has been completely distorted, he (Reddy) is a very obedient soldier of the party.”

Bodh Gaya blasts: NIA releases sketches of five suspects

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has released sketches of five suspects in the July 7 serial bomb explosions at Bodh Gaya’s Mahabodhi temple in Bihar.

The sketches, including one of a foreigner, have been distributed among the public, particularly rickshaw-pullers, auto-rickshaw drivers and local civic body members, police said Tuesday.

“NIA officials have sought information about the suspects,” a police official said.

As per the details, the rowdy sheeter of Meerpet police station Jalla Shankar, resident of Lenin Nagar, was killed by his son Chandrakant from his first wife and the son of his sister-in-law Ajay.

According to police Meerpet said that Shankar was living with his second wife Mangamma in Lenin Nagar for quite some time whereas there was a dispute with his first wife Nagalaxmi.
