“This is the first time I am doing such a big, mainstream commercial film. I am working with such a big director for the first time and I found it to be a great benefit. The way they direct your performance and enhance it, it is such a great asset for an actor to have that support,” the 30-year-old said here Friday while promoting the film at a radio station.

14 Head Constables promoted, one Inspector transferred

City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma issued the orders of transfer of one Inspector and promotion of 14 Head Constable to the post of Assistant Sub Inspector here on June 29.

Only one Inspector by name R Sekhar Reddy is transferred, who was posted as Narayanaguda DI for the past few months now sent to Hyderabad Range on his request.

Congress leader commits suicide in Hyderabad

A Congress leader, who was the prime accused in a murder case, Saturday committed suicide, police said.

Y Sridhar Reddy was found dead at his residence in Uppal on the city outskirts. Police suspect he consumed poison.

The family members claimed that he left behind a suicide note, blaming mental harassment by police for resorting to the extreme step. He reportedly alleged that a senior police official demanded Rs.10 lakh to withdraw a case against him.

NIA probe into Malegaon blast illegal: Accused

A month after NIA filed its supplementary chargesheet in connection with the 2006 Malegoan blasts, an accused on Saturday challenged its legality, saying that further investigation in the case by the probe agency was totally “illegal”.

Blast accused Dhan Singh, who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) along with three others, moved the Special MCOCA court saying that ATS had filed a chargesheet and the case was taken over by the CBI in 2007 which also filed a supplementary chargesheet.

Two-drug combination could reduce stroke risk

A simple drug regimen of two anti-clotting drugs – clopidogrel and aspirin – can lower the risk of suffering a stroke by about one-third, a new clinical trial has showed.

The clinical trial involved 5,170 people, who were hospitalized after suffering minor ischemic strokes or stroke-like events known as transient ischemic attacks, or TIAs, in which blood flow to the brain is briefly blocked, and was conducted at multiple sites in China and designed in partnership with a physician at UC San Francisco.

Cabinet clears laboratory network for epidemics, calamities

The union cabinet Thursday approved a three-tier network of laboratories across the country for managing epidemics and natural calamities, Finance Minister P. Chidambaram said Friday.

According to the finance minister, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved the proposal of the health ministry to set up 10 regional laboratories, 30 state-level laboratories and 120 medical college-level labs for establishing a network to manage epidemics and natural calamities.

Cops arrest VHP leader Jagdish Anant for involvement in May 30 serial blasts in Mathura

The police have arrested a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader for last month’s serial blasts in Kosikalan area of Mathura. The investigators have concluded that Jagdish Anant, city president of the VHP, was not only involved in the blasts but also in assembling the bombs.

Four bombs had exploded in the minority dominated area on May 30. Although there was no casualty in the blasts, the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) has stated that it was meant for terrorizing the people.

Passengers robbed in train in Rajasthan

Unidentified men on Saturday allegedly robbed some passengers of the AC coach of a train in Dausa district of Rajasthan, officials said.

The incident occurred in the wee hours between Mandawar and Kherli areas after the Ahmedabad-Gorakhpur weekly express train left Dausa district’s Bandikui railway station.

The train was stopped after its emergency chain was pulled by some of the accused, who were already present in the train, somewhere near Mandawar, to let their accomplices enter the coach, GRP sources said.

The miscreants allegedly robbed some passengers of the AC coach.

Exempting Political parties from RTI Act is against Democracy: JP

Uttarakhand flood: 1,000 still stranded in Badrinath, over 2,000 missing

Over 1,000 people are still stranded in the holy town of Badrinath in flood ravaged Uttarakhand.
