Prateik Babbar recently promoted his upcoming movie ‘Issaq’ along with the entire film star cast at a fashion show in Mumbai.

The lead pair of the film walked down the ramp in the outfits designed by the students of INIFD during ‘Vibrance 2013’.

Speaking at the occasion, the 26-year-old actor said that he portrays a very challenging and different character.

“It was a very challenging, different kind of a role. I did a lot of hard work on my body, my voice, my face, overall on everything,” Babbar said.

US woman jailed for life for bobbitising ex-hubby

A 50-year-old woman from the US state of California has been sentenced to life in prison for cutting off the penis of her then-husband and throwing it into a garbage disposal, officials said.

Vietnam-born Catherine Kieu from Garden Grove, California, and her 60-year-old husband were going through a divorce at the time of the incident in July 2011, CNN reported.

Kieu laced her husband’s dinner with a sleep medication after they had an argument over a friend possibly staying with them.

Stability in Afghanistan, Iran essential: Khurshid

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said Saturday peace and stability in Afghanistan and Iran are essential for the security of India as the two countries provide access to the central Asian region that abounds in hydrocarbon wealth.

Khurshid said this while delivering the inaugural address at a three-day international conference on Central Asia at Kashmir University here.

The theme of the conference is “Cooperative development, peace and security in Central Asia: challenges and prospects”.

Heavy rain hits over 650,000 people in China

Over 666,000 people have been affected by heavy rains in east China, officials said Saturday.

Rain in 25 counties of Zhejiang province over the past month have forced around 5,700 residents to evacuate, Xinhua cited the flood control and drought relief office as saying.

A total of 335 houses have collapsed, and 22,200 hectares of crops were damaged in the rains, causing an economic loss of about 525 million yuan (around $85.5 million).

Rana Daggubati injured while rehearsing for ‘Baahubali’

Actor Rana Daggubati faced minor injuries Saturday here while training for some stunt scenes on the sets of upcoming Telugu period-drama “Baahubali”. He was rushed to a hospital and is fine now.

“He met with a minor injury while rehearsing some action sequences for “Baahubali”. He was admitted to Care Hospital, but he is absolutely fine. He will resume training tomorrow,” Rana’s manager told IANS.

Rana plays one of the lead roles in the period flick, which is being helmed by S.S. Rajamouli. The film is set to go on floors July 6.

Unrest hits China’s Muslim-dominated Xinjiang region

More than 100 people riding motorcycles, some of them wielding knives, attacked a police station in western China’s Muslim-majority region of Xinjiang, media reports said.

Details of Friday’s incident in the desert city of Hotan emerged Saturday, BBC reported.

It came two days after clashes in another part of Xinjiang left at least 35 people dead.

At a meeting in Xinjiang’s capital Urumqi, senior Communist Party official Yu Zhengsheng said China “would strike hard on violent terrorist attacks”.

Pakistani girl accused of blasphemy now in Canada

A teenaged Pakistani Christian girl, who was “falsely accused” of blasphemy has fled to Canada with her family, BBC reported.

Rimsha Masih, 14, was detained in a maximum security prison for several weeks in August 2012, after being accused of burning pages from the Quran.

Although charges against the girl were later dropped, she and her family were forced into hiding after receiving death threats.

Rimsha, believed to have learning difficulties, was arrested in a Christian area of Islamabad, after a furious crowd demanded she be punished.

India to host 2016 World T20, 2023 World Cup

It was double bonanza for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as it would host the World Twenty20 for the first time in 2016 and its fourth 50-over World Cup in 2023.

The BCCI was awarded the two events during the International Cricket Council (ICC) Annual Conference that ended here Saturday. India was represented by interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya, also a former ICC president.

During the conference, the ICC finalised its global events from 2015 to 2023 and decided that full members have to play a minimum of 16 Tests over a four-year period to retain their Test status.

Nawaz Sharif to take steps to boost Pakistan-India ties

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Saturday said his government had followed the policy of keeping close relations with New Delhi in the past and would adopt the same in the future.

Babies as young as five months old can understand each others’ emotional signals, a new study has found.

US researchers tested a baby’s ability to match emotional infant vocalisations with a paired infant facial expression.

“We found that 5 month old infants can match their peer’s positive and negative vocalisations with the appropriate facial expression,” said Ross Flom, professor of psychology in Brigham Young University.

Manipal Gangrape: victim in ”trauma”, says Kerala Women Commission chief

The 22-year old medical student from Kerala who was kidnapped and gangraped at nearby Manipal more than a week ago was in a “state of trauma” and not in a position to speak about the incident now, chief of Kerala women’s Commission K C Rosakutty said today.

The victim and her family were reluctant to meet her and other two members, advocate Rubina Rashid and Dr Tulasi, Rosakutty told PTI over phone. “The victim is in a state of trauma and reluctant to meet us,” she said.

The doctors said the victim would be discharged from the hospital in next three days, Rosakutty said.

Committee set up to probe marks tampering in CAT 2012

The Election Commission is likely to seek an explanation from senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde sooner than later over is reported claim that he had spent Rs.8 crore as poll expenses during the 2009 general elections as against the official sanctioned limit of Rs.25 lakh.
