CM announce Rs 50 Crore for relief work in Uttarakhand

The Chief Minister N kiran Kumar Reddy today announced Rs 50 crores towards relief works in Uttarakhand.

Kiran Kuamr reddy said that Rs 10 crores will be for Uttarakhand Government for rescue and relief works and Rs 40 crores will be spent through Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams for construction of “Pilgrim Amenities Complexes” at Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunothri, Gangotri (Chardham) costing Rs10 crores each.

We will never know the exact number of dead: Uttarakhand CM

The exact number of people dead or washed away may never be known, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna said today as estimates of casualties in the worst natural disaster in the state run from several hundreds to several thousands.

“We will never know the exact number of those dead and the number of people who have been buried or washed away,” he told PTI in an interview.

State Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal had stated yesterday that the number of those killed could breach the 10,000 mark but the Chief Minister had said the figure was incorrect.

US spying on EU offices

The US National Security Agency (NSA) not only monitors the communications of European citizens, but it also has an eavesdropping programme targeting offices of the European Union (EU), a media report said.

German magazine Der Spiegel cited confidential documents it obtained from whistleblower Edward Snowden, Xinhua reported.

Snowden, who worked for the CIA, fled to Hong Kong last month and revealed an NSA-operated classified surveillance project code-named “PRISM”, which can trace worldwide e-mails and phone calls.

Abu Dhabi mosque among world’s top 25 attractions

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi has been ranked among the world’s top 25 landmark attractions based on reviews and feedback by travellers.

The mosque in UAE’s capital shares the spotlight with noted places including the Taj Mahal in India, Machu Picchu in Peru and Petra in Jordan, according to UAE’s official news agency Wam.

“TripAdvisor recently named the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque as one of the world’s most talked about attractions,” Yousif Al Obaidli, Director General of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center told the news agency.

Blast in Pakistan’s Peshawar kills nine

At least nine persons, including three children, were killed and over 20 others injured today in a powerful blast targeting a convoy of security forces in Peshawar city in northwest Pakistan.

The blast, believed to be an IED explosion, targeted the convoy of security forces on their way to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s capital Peshawar from Kohat district.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Information Minister Shaukat Yousufzai said nine persons, including three children, were killed in the blast whereas more than 20 were wounded, the Dawn reported.

Doctor arrested for molesting patient in AP

A doctor was arrested here on Saturday for allegedly molesting a woman patient at his clinic at Araku valley in the district, police said.

According to Police, K Lakshmi(24) along with her brother had come to Araku valley yesterday for making some purchases but took ill and collapsed on the road.

She was admitted to Yoganandha clinic and while treating her, doctor M Sankara Rao (45) allegedly molested her, police said, adding the victim left the clinic and narrated the matter to his brother and later lodged a complaint at Araku valley police station.

Chinese man kills family of four, commits suicide

A man in China murdered a family of four, including a seven-year-old boy, with a hammer and a kitchen knife before killing himself, police said on Sunday.

The 60-year-old man, surnamed Zhao, visited the home of a man named Zan in Botou city in northern Hebei province at 9 p.m. Saturday.

He killed Zan, his wife, daughter-in-law and grandson, Xinhua cited the city public security bureau as saying.

Zhao later telephoned his own family and said he had had “vengeance” before committing suicide at the site of the murder, police said.

Indians in Saudi Arabia asked to get final exit visa

India has asked its nationals living in Saudi Arabia, who have received their Emergency Certificates (ECs), to get their final exit visa immediately from the Saudi authorities.

The Indian embassy in Riyadh said that it has completed the process of issuing ECs to all those applicants who have verified their personal particulars with the mission.

The new Saudi labour law called ‘Nitaqat’ makes it mandatory for local companies to hire one Saudi national for every 10 migrant workers.

Attitude towards women must change: Pallam Raju

Government was taking steps to improve women’s participation in employment by imparting training in skill development, Union HRD Minister M M Pallam Raju said on Sunday.

He also said that “attitude” towards women must change and they be treated equally. “Women form half of total population of the country but their participation in employment is very low. Government is taking steps to bring them at par with men,” Raju said.

Father kills 4-yr-old killed to claim govt compensation

In a shocking incident, a man killed his 4-year-old daughter in an attempt to pass it off as a murder by militants and claim compensation by the state government.

The accused Altaf Ahmad has been arrested by the police.

The incident took place when the accused sent his wife and son out of the house on some pretext and then slit the throat of his daughter, Muskan.

She was reported as missing by her father and a day later her body was found in an orchard in Dangiwa area.

Suspended IPS officer D G Vanzara admitted in hospital

Suspended IPS officer D G Vanzara, an accused in a string of fake encounter killing cases, was on Saturday admitted in hospital here after he complained of chest pain.

Vanzara was admitted to U N Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre here in the morning, according to a source in the hospital.

Vanzara is an accused in the cases relating to alleged fake encounter killing of Soharabuddin Sheikh, Tulsi Prajapati and college student Ishrat Jahan.
