Girl gang raped in Faridabad

A girl was allegedly gang raped by four persons in a moving autorickshaw after they abducted her from Hanuman Mandir in Sector 55 of Faridabad district, police said today.

Police has registered a case under various sections of the IPC against four persons including Bobby, a resident of Sector 25 in the district.

According to the FIR filed by the victim, Bobby along with three others abducted the girl in a three-wheeler last night, when she was returning home after purchasing grocery.

27 IAS officers transferred in Rajasthan

In a major administrative reshuffle, 27 IAS officers, including three additional chief secretary rank officials, were today transferred by the Rajasthan government.

Collectors of 11 districts– Hanumangarh, Bharatpur, Jhunjhunu, Dungarpur, Sawaimadhopur, Bundi, Jaisalmer, Tonk, Dausa, Dholpur and Sirohi were shifted.

Chairman revenue board Umrao Salodia was transferred as ACS transport replacing O P Meena who would take charge as ACS forest.

C M Meena was made Chairman revenue board.

One jailed for molesting mentally challenged girl

A Delhi sessions court reduced the one-year jail term awarded to a man for molesting a mentally challenged girl here eight years ago and sent him to six months’ jail Monday.

The court took a lenient view towards Raj Kumar, who moved court challenging the magisterial order, and reduced the jail term.

Additional Sessions Judge Pawan Kumar Jain said that though Kumar was guilty, “he has been facing the agony of trial for the last eight years and he has no criminal antecedents and deserves some leniency”.

Man detained with pistol near Patel’s house

A 30-year-old mentally disturbed man was detained with a licenced pistol meters away from the house of Ahmad Patel, political adviser to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, police said Monday.

Joginder Singh was in his car when he was stopped at a police checkpost in central Delhi, a police officer said.

“He was mentally disturbed and spoke nonsense. A .315 bore pistol and 21 live cartridges were recovered from his possession,” he said.

He could not explain why he was carrying the weapon and what his destination was.

Married woman commits suicide in Delhi

A married woman committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in her house here in the city, said police Monday.

The 27-year-old woman, who was from Kerala, hanged herself in her rented house in east Delhi’s Mandawali Sunday night.

“No suicide note was recovered. We are yet to ascertain the reason behind her step,” said a police official.

She is survived by her husband Rajesh and a four-year-old child.

She got married five years ago and was studying masters in law at a private institute here.

Polish model molested in Delhi

A 17-year-old Poland-based model was molested by a man who runs a modelling agency here, said police Monday. The accused is absconding.

Accused Imshan allegedly molested the model in south Delhi’s Greater Kailash area Sunday night.

“The girl had come to Delhi two months ago on a modelling assignment when she came in contact with Imshan,” said a police official.

On the pretext of getting her an assignment, Imshan managed to bring her to his Greater Kailash house, where a Brazil-based model also resided, said the official.

HIV positive commits suicide in Jaipur

Depressed over being HIV positive, a 23-year-old youth committed suicide by hanging himself at his house here Monday, police said.

“His family members spotted him hanging at his house in the Walled City area and informed police. A team was rushed to the spot. He was taken to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead,” a police officer said.

The officer added that the victim’s family members said that he was depressed for being HIV positive.

Minor raped, murdered in Bihar

A man was arrested in Bihar’s Siwan district Monday for allegedly raping and killing a minor girl, police said.

The girl was raped and murdered in Sahuli village in Siwan.

“The victim was part of a marriage party. The incident took place when she was sleeping in a vehicle, whose driver raped her and killed her,” a district police official said.

According to a police officer, the accused was caught by villagers and handed over to local police.

UAE distributes Braille Quran in Palestine

The UAE’s Human Appeal International (HAI) has launched a campaign under which Quran books in Braille are being distributed in Palestine.

Under the “Braille Quran for Every Visually Impaired in Palestine” campaign, 300 Quran books in Braille have been given out till now.

Ibrahim Al Rashid, director of the HAI in the West Bank, said the Braille Qurans are being given to universities, schools, public libraries, mosques and visually impaired students.

He said the campaign is aimed at over 1,000 visually impaired people in need of Braille Qurans. The books come in six volumes per Quran.

Beware of dust storms, UAE agencies tell public

The Environment Agency, Abu Dhabi (EAD) and the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD) have asked people to check their websites to understand how to avoid the effects of dust storms on their health.

The EAD has set up a website where data from 20 air quality monitoring stations, scattered around Abu Dhabi, are transmitted live, 24 hours a day.

The data collected allows the EAD to monitor five major air pollutants — particulate matter, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide and ground-level ozone.

No guarantee that Iranian n-programme peaceful: IAEA

Iran has not provided the International Atomic Energy Agency with sufficient information to substantiate its claim that its nuclear programme is peaceful, IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano said.

An Iranian official in Moscow later called the allegation “unfounded”.

In his introductory speech to the IAEA Board of Governors, delivered in unusually strong language, Amano accused Iran of non-compliance with requests for information on its controversial nuclear programme and for inspections of its nuclear sites.

BJP asks UPA to table Telangana bill in parliament

BJP president Rajnath Singh has asked the UPA government to table a bill in parliament to carve out a separate Telangana state out of Andhra Pradesh, saying his party would extend unconditional support.

Addressing a public meeting here Monday night, Rajnath Singh said that if the government convenes a special session of parliament to table the bill, the BJP would support it.

At the public meeting at Nizam College grounds, former state minister N. Janardhana Reddy merged his Telangana Nagara Samithi with the BJP.

FIR against RJD nominee Prabhunath Singh for threatening voter

An FIR has been registered against RJD candidate for Maharajganj Lok Sabha bye-election Prabhunath Singh for allegedly threatening a voter during yesterday’s polling, police said today.

On the basis of a written complaint of Rahimuddin Khan, a native of Khawaspur village, Singh and his supporter
Surendra Pandey threatened him with dire consequences when he he was standing in queue outside a booth, if he voted against him.

An FIR has been lodged against Singh and Pandey, Superintendent of Police Vivek Kumar said.

8 injured in TMC-CPIM clash

CPI(M)-Trinamool Congress activists clashed at Hingalganj in North 24 Parganas district this evening leaving eight injured, three of them seriously.

The clash broke out when a CPI(M) procession was passing by the BDO’s office and some local TMC activists
protested to some “objectionable slogans against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, police sources said.

All the injured were taken to local health centre from where three were referred to the rural hospital.

A local court today directed the Garhwa police to give a report on the death of an accused in police remand.

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate issued the directions after the father of Udesh Paswan petitioned for a judicial probe into his son’s death on the night of Saturday/Sunday.

Transferring the case to the district sessions court, the Chief Judicial Magistrate asked the investigating officer
and the officer-in-charge of Nagarutari police station to submit the report within three days.

Govt to hold all-party meet on Naxal issue

Supreme Court-appointed SIT on Monday termed as “instigating” the petition filed by Zakia Jafri, opposing the closure report filed by SIT giving clean chit to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and alleged that it could again create communal disturbances in the state.

SIT made this submission before Metropolitan Magistrate BJ Ganatra who was hearing the ‘protest’ petition filed by Jafri opposing the closure report filed by SIT giving clean chit to Modi and others for their role in the 2002 post-Godhra riots.

Monsoon enters Andhra, to advance further

The Southwest Monsoon on Monday entered Andhra Pradesh and is likely to advance in the next two to three days, says the met office.

The Monsoon has set in over parts of Rayalaseema region, said the state’s disaster management department quoting the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

The Monsoon, which touched Kerala coast on Saturday, has arrived in Andhra Pradesh two days in advance.

Many places in Rayalaseema and some parts of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have been receiving rains since Sunday.

JD-U upbeat over Assocham report lauding Bihar

Bihar’s ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leaders are upbeat with an Assocham the report claiming that Bihar is growing at a faster rate than Gujarat.

“It has again vindicated fast growth and development in Bihar under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar,” state JD-U spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said.

Another JD-U spokesperson, Sanjay Singh, said that Assocham has painted the real picture of Bihar’s development. “It is the fastest growing state in the country, which has now been accepted,” Singh said.

Now 15 Starbucks stores in India

Starbucks Coffee has expanded its India presence in Delhi and Mumbai by taking the total number of stores to 15.

Starbucks entered the Indian market in October 2012. The capital has seven of its stores, while Mumbai has eight.

Tata Starbucks Limited, a joint venture between Starbucks Coffee Company and Tata Global Beverages Limited, has recently opened three new stores across Delhi and Mumbai – at Greater Kailash-I, M-block market and Nehru Place Metro in New Delhi and at R-city Mall, in Mumbai.

Photos of semi-clad Israeli soldiers posted on sites

Four Israeli women soldiers have been disciplined after photographs, showing them posing only in their underwears and combat gear, were posted on Facebook.

The group of women were punished for their “unbecoming behaviour” after the pictures emerged on local news sites, Daily Mail reported citing the Israeli military.

The images, published on Israeli news site Walla, showed the soldiers removing their fatigues to expose their underwear and bums.

In another, five women posed in what appeared to be a barracks room, dressed only in helmets and a small amount of combat equipment.

‘Basic Instinct’ star Michael Douglas believes his throat cancer was triggered by oral sex.

It has been widely thought that the 68-year-old Hollywood star’s years of drinking and smoking were to blame for the stage four cancer, which was first diagnosed in 2010.

Douglas said he initially thought that stress was behind his near fatal condition but now he has come to believe that HPV virus, transmitted through oral sex, was responsible for it, the Guardian reported.
