Lombard India forays into premium men’s fabric segment

Future Group firm Lombard India today announced its foray into the premium men’s fabric segment and plans to invest Rs 100 crore in the next one year to expand footprint.

The company plans to open 50 standalone stores and tie up with 750 multi-brand outlets to retail Lombard branded premium range of suitings, shirtings, readymades and accessories.

Premium men’s clothing hardly has one or two players.

It is a very good business opportunity,” Lombard India President Ashwani Misra told PTI.

Ashraful suspended by BCB

Former Bangladesh skipper Mohammad Ashraful has been suspended for his alleged involvement in match-fixing that took place during Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

“As Ashraful has confessed his involvement in fixing to the ACSU team, so he should not be allowed to play any level of cricket until we get a full report of the investigation,” AFP quoted Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan as saying.

“The allegations involve a match between Dhaka Gladiators and Chittagong Kings in the second edition of the BPL,” confirmed Jalal Yunus, a BCB spokesperson earlier.

Teenager raped by police constable in UP

A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a constable posted in Thanagaddi Chowki in Kerakat kotwali area here.

The accused, Shambhu Sharma, who used to live in a rented room in Gaddi Bazar area, allegedly lured his neighbour’s daughter last night and raped her.

When the girl recounted the incident, the family reportedly arrived at the police chowki for lodging a complaint but allegedly to no avail.

Locals today gathered at the chowki and indulged in brick batting. They also resorted to blocking traffic.

Would have changed law and order perception in 15 days:Mulayam

SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav today said had he been in place of the Chief Minister, he would have changed perception of law and order in the state within 15 days and advised Akhilesh not to hesitate in sending errant
officers to jail.

Had I been in place of Akhilesh, I would have ensured change (in perception) on law and order front in 15 days,”
Mulayam told reporters.

District Magistrates and SPs should be made responsible for law and order and, if needed, action can be initiated

Three youths killed as their motorcycle hit by jeep

Three youths were killed when their motorcycle was hit by a jeep in Kharauna village here, police said today.

The incident took place last night when Akhilesh Yadav (21), Dhananjay Nishad (23) and Brijesh (22) were going on
their motorbike which was hit by the jeep killing all of them on the spot.

The police has lodged an FIR in this connection against the jeep driver.

No arrests have so far been made.

Renowned writer, broadcaster and columnist Qamar Ali Abbasi passes away

Renowned Pakistani writer, broadcaster and columnist Qamar Ali Abbasi, son of Mr. Wajahat Ali Abbasi passed away in America on May 31. Abbasi was the writer of several books. Funeral prayer was offered on June 1, at Masjid Darul Quran New York.

Abbasi received the prestigious All Pakistan Newspaper Society (APNS) Award in 1991 by the then Prime minister. Besides he was also conferred the Tamagha-e-Imtiaz in 2000.

For first time US slaps sanction on Iran’s currency

The US has slapped new sanctions on Iran for the third time in a week, targetting the country’s already-devalued currency and automobile industry, as it pressured Tehran to abandon its nuclear programme.

This is the first time the US has directly targeted the Iranian currency as the sanctions include penalties on anyone facilitating “significant” transactions in the rial or holding significant amounts of the currency outside Iran.

The fresh actions, contained in an executive order effective July 1, were issued by President Barack Obama.

Three commandos suspended for beating up a patient

Three police commandos were suspended for allegedly beating up a patient and five others, who were accompanying him, on way to a hospital in Bishenpur district of Manipur, police said today.

The suspension order of sub-inspector Bung Singh and two constables (all commandos) was issued by the Superintendent of Police of Bishenpur district Radheshyam Singh yesterday.

After his guest appearances in ‘Om Shanti Om’ and ‘Luck By Chance’, director-producer Karan Johar is all set to play a full-fledged negative role opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Anurag Kashyap’s period drama ‘Bombay Velvet’.

Johar, who collaborated with Kashyap on anthology film ‘Bombay Talkies’, said the offer came to him out of the blue.

It’s true that I’m acting in ‘Bombay Velvet’ and it’s unusual for me. I was blown away by the narrative… Since I’m playing an antagonist, there are shades of grey to my character,” Johar said in a statement.

Gujarat riots: HC to hear Zakia’s plea against Modi

The Gujarat High Court will on Tuesday take up the case of Zakia Jafri, in which she has challenged the clean chit given by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to Chief Minister Narendra Modi and 61 others.

In her petition, Jafri has claimed that they were conspirators in the 2002 Gujarat riots in which her husband and former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri was one of those killed in the Gulburg Society massacre in Ahmedabad.

Jiah Khan was depressed after having been rejected at an audition in Hyderabad, according to the actress’ mother Rabiya Amin. She wanted to pursue a career in interior designing as she wasn’t happy with the way her film career graph was taking a plunge.

Friends of the actor have also hinted that she might have been troubled by her dull love life.

Jiah Khan committed suicide at her Juhu residence on Monday night. Jiah’s mother and sister had gone out and she was alone at the house when the incident happened, police said.

Son arrested for killing father

A man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his father in Palda village here, police said today.

55-year-old Iqbal Qureshi, a caretaker of a mosque and also a trader was shot dead on April 22 when he was sleeping
in his house here at Palda village, police said.

During investigation, son of the deceased, Naushad confessed to have committed the crime following which he was
arrested yesterday,” police said.

Three of marriage party killed, 19 injured in road mishap

Three persons, including a 12-year-old boy, were killed and 19 others injured when a jeep carrying a marriage party overturned here, police said today.

The groom and his father were among those who sustained injuries in the accident.

The mishap occurred last evening when the brakes of the jeep failed while it was heading to Khamshet from Hanumantpada in Nashik district’s Peint taluka and turned turtle at Khadki-Shinghali ghat, police said.

All the injured were admitted in Nashik civil hospital.

Afghanistan: Road bomb kills 3 children, father

An official says three children and their father died when their car hit a bomb on a road in western Afghanistan, the latest deaths in a sharp rise in civilian casualties.

Farah province spokesman Abdul Rahman Zhawandai says the family was driving early today when their car hit the buried
bomb. The father and children were killed instantly.

The mother was critically injured.

Bangalore college asks students to shave off beard

A city-based college has attracted the ire of the Muslim community after it asked a Class XII student to shave his beard or stay away from classes.

The college, St. Germain PU College, observed that sporting facial hair was against the rules of the Archdiocesan Board of Education, which runs the educational institute.

Trouble started for M. Zeeshan Ali last year when he started sporting a beard. The situation worsened this year when the college authorities asked him to shave his beard to ensure “uniformity” among the students.

Jiah Khan’s death: Police questions to Aditya Pancholi’s son

The Mumbai police, who are investigating the alleged suicide of Bollywood actress Jiah Khan, are understood to be questioning actor Aditya Pancholi’s son Sooraj, who was said to be her close friend, and with whom she reportedly shared a relationship.

Police sources said that before the actress commited suicide on Monday June 4 night, she had spoken to Sooraj over the phone. They had even exchanged text messages.

Jiah and Sooraj had reportedly argued about the latter’s friendship with another woman, an allegation that Sooraj denied in his SMS message.

Father kills alcoholic son
(Siasat News): A father killed his son. This incident occurred in Ibrahimpatnam police station limits where one Rajya, attacked his son Mallesh at Nagolapalli in Ibrahimpatnam.

The attack proved fatal for Mallesh. The deceased was unemployed and was an alcoholic. All the family members were upset over his bad habits and unruly behaviour.

Police has registered a case and further investigations are on.

Actor Vindu Dara Singh and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) principal Gurunath Meiyappan, arrested in connection with the IPL spot-fixing and betting scandal, were on Tuesday granted bail by a local court.

Besides Vindu and Meiyappan, the son-in-law of N Srinivasan who recently stepped aside as BCCI president, six bookies too were granted the relief on the bond of Rs 25,000 each.

The duo moved the bail applications on Monday after the metropolitan magistrate remanded them in judicial custody till June 14.
