Wearing high heels could be bad for your health

High heels may increase the risk of a woman suffering from serious medical conditions, which includes arthritis, muscle damage and trapped nerves, a study has suggested.

According to a study conducted by The College of Podiatry, women start feeling the pain after wearing the heels for just one hour and six minutes, on an average and a fifth of them feel the burn after walking for just 10 minutes.

The study also found that almost 50 percent of women have suffered from foot problems and a third have worn heels they knew did not fit simply because they looked good.

Zardari resigned to his fate: Pakistani daily

President Asif Ali Zardari, whose party was trounced in the general elections, is “resigned to his fate”, a Pakistani daily said Tuesday.

In his first talk with journalists since the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) suffered a humiliating defeat in the 2013 elections, Zardari said last week that he had no intention of trying to run for a second term in office.

Ram Gopal Varma, who gave Britain-born actress Nafisa alias Jiah Khan a Bollywood launchpad with 2007 film “Nishabd”, is “shocked and chocked” over the news of her death. He says she was depressed about her career, and scared about her future as she had no work the past three years.

“The last time I met her, Jiah told me that everyone around her makes her feel like a failure,” Varma posted on his Twitter page, after hearing the news that the 25-year-old had committed suicide at her Juhu home here around midnight.

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has got supporters in the form of Chief Whip Gandra Venkataramana Reddy on the DL Ravindra Reddy issue.

The Chief Whip told reporters that it was not fair on part of DL Ravindra Reddy to criticize Chief Minister openly on the government schemes.

“He should have discussed it at an appropriate forum instead of rushing to the press. I believe that Chief Minister has sacked him only for that reason,” he said.

Who is Sonali Bendre’s real life hero? The actress calls her mother her hero for raising three daughters with very limited resources and giving them wings despite being not so educated. She admits this kind of heroism is not so uncommon in the country.

Yesteryears’ actor Shashi Kapoor watched grand-nephew Ranbir Kapoor’s latest film “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani”.

The 75-year-old even greeted fans outside PVR Juhu Monday.

Milap Zaveri posted on Twitter: “Saw the legend Shashi Kapoorji at PVR Juhu last night being wheeled out on a wheelchair after seeing ‘YJHD’. He sweetly greeted people too.”

Directed by Ayan Mukerji the film, also starring Kalki Koechlin, Aditya Roy Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, is being appreciated by all and sundry. It managed to gross Rs.62.11 crore at the Indian box office in the opening weekend itself.

Two held after scuffle with Pakistani diplomat

Two people, including a woman, have been arrested for allegedly getting into a scuffle with a Pakistani diplomat and his wife after an accident, officials said Tuesday.

In the “minor road accident” Monday evening, the driver of the car bearing a diplomatic number plate of the Pakistan High Commission had hit a motorcycle at Ber Sarai, near JNU campus, the ministry of external affairs said in a statement.

Congress, TDP fortunes depend on Jagan: Bharathi Reddy

As Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy remained in jail a year after his arrest, his wife Y.S. Bharathi Reddy believes it is not because of corruption but because both the Congress and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) don’t want him to be among people.

“He is in jail today because the political fortunes of the Congress and TDP depend on him being in or out (of prison),” his wife told IANS in an interview.

Though it has been a tough year for Bharathi and the family, she is confident that YSR Congress will sweep next year’s elections and he will become the chief minister.

DL complains to Speaker

On a day of emerging swift political developments suspended minister DL Ravindra Reddy complained to Speaker Nadendla Manohar for denying him permission to hold a press meet at the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) office in the assembly premises.

DL Ravindra Reddy, who was sacked from the cabinet returned from abroad yesterday and said that he will speak his mind out at press conference on Tuesday.

He was denied permission to hold the press conference, which was scheduled to be held at 1.00 pm.

Mynampati Bhaskar no more

Renowned writer Mynampati Bhaskar died at a city hospital here today.

Bhaskar, who is literary figure with many publications to his credit, died while undergoing treatment at a corporate hospital in the city.

Radha remanded to judicial custody

Top Maoist leader Chandranna’s wife Radha and Prudhviraj were remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.

The two leaders were arrested yesterday near here while they were going to Hyderabad from Chhattisgarh for treatment.

They were produced before the court today.

Radha is the wife of top Maoist Chandranna, who carries a high rearward on his head and is a central committee member. (INN)

Police arrest accused in RTC online fraud

The prime accused in the RTC tickets online fraud case was today arrested by the CCS police.

The former RTC agent Hanumantha Rao was arrested by the police on charges of carrying out online fraud by cancelling tickets and encashing the amount running into crores over a period of time.

Police seized Rs 20,000 cash, IP addresses, SN cards from him.

CCS police said that three more are involved in the online fraud. (INN)

Court grants permission to arrest D G Vanzara

A special CBI court on Tuesday granted permission to the central probe agency to arrest Gujarat IPS officer DG Vanzara, in the 2004 Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case.

Vanzara, who is also one of the main accused in the 2005 fake encounter case of Sohrabuddin Shaikh and the murder of his wife Kausar Bi, was yesterday brought to Sabarmati Central jail from a Mumbai jail where he was lodged.

Sharif to be sworn in as premier tomorrow with small cabinet

Nawaz Sharif will be sworn in for a record third term as Pakistan’s Prime Minister tomorrow after he is formally elected to the post and a very small cabinet comprising close aides is expected to take oath along with him.

Sharif’s election in the National Assembly or lower house of Parliament is a foregone conclusion as his PML-N
party has over 180 members in the 342-member strong House.

Six days after the body of an unknown woman was recovered from a locality here, police have sought the help of CID and Crime Branch in order to establish her identity.

It has been six days and till today, no one has claimed the ownership of the woman’s body. So, we have sought the help of CID (Crime), city Crime Branch and state Crime Branch in Gandhinagar whether anyone outside the state knows her,”Satellite Police Inspector Ashok Pandya told PTI.

Smoker hiring costs US firms USD 6000 per head

Hiring employees who smoke is proving costly for US firms as they have to shell out USD 6000 more per year on a smoker than a non-smoker, according to a new study.

Researchers say the study is the first to take a comprehensive look at the financial burden for companies that
employ smokers.

By drawing on previous research on the costs of absenteeism, lost productivity, smoke breaks and health care
costs, the researchers developed an estimate that each employee who smokes costs an employer an average of USD 5,816 annually above the cost of a person who never smoked.

CRPF jawan injured in encounter with Naxals

A CRPF jawan was today injured in an encounter with Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Dhamtari district.

The gun-battle took place when the joint party of CRPF and district force was patrolling in the forests of Khallari
village under Borai police station limits, 150kms from here,” a senior official said.

The encounter is still on,” the official said.

On seeing the search party, the ultras opened fire on it injuring a jawan, the official said, adding that the security personnel has been retrieved from the encounter spot.

Five arrested in double murder case

Five persons were today arrested in connection with the murder of a woman and her daughter near here eight months ago, police said.

The 48-year-old woman and her 23-year-old daughter were murdered on September 20 last year.

Gold ornaments weighing 40 sovereigns and two motorcycles were seized from them, Police Commissioner K C Mahali said.

He said three persons were arrested in connection with various cases including robbery and chain-snatching in the
city and gold jewellery weighig 34 sovereigns and a motorcycle seized.

2 brothers drown

Two brothers drowned in Gomati river while bathing in it this morning, police said here.

Danish Hussain (22) and Irfan Haider (17), who worked in Mumbai, had come here to attend the wedding of their cousin
in Saidullapur Pure Mirza ka Purva village, police said.

The duo had gone to the river, about two kms from their home, to take bath when the incident took place, they said.

Locals managed to pull them out but they died on way to hospital, police said.
