A new research from McMaster University has suggested women can remember faces better than men, in part because they spend more time studying features without even knowing it.

This technique, researchers said, can help improve anyone’s memories.

The findings help to answer long-standing questions about why some people can remember faces easily while others quickly forget someone they’ve just met.

Antony visit: India, Australia agree to continue defence consultations and cooperation

Defence Ministers of India and Australia-A K Antony and Stephen Smith have agreed to continue and enhance bilateral defence consultations and cooperation, besides discussing issues concerning the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean regions in bilateral and multilateral fora.

A joint statement issued after the ministers had met in Perth on June 4 and in Canberra on June 5, said both leaders discussed and reviewed progress of strategic and security interests, including maritime security and bilateral defence cooperation.

150 ‘jobless’ former footballers imprisoned in UK

About 150 former footballers are serving time in prison on charges ranging from crime, addiction to alcohol and gambling.

According to the Professional Footballers’ Association, many of these players have been discarded by lower league clubs, and are depressed and facing financial ruin.

According to the Daily Star, at least 700 football professionals are jobless.

41 fake deaths detected in 1984 anti-Sikh riots claims

A criminal case was registered on Tuesday against unknown people who tried to fraudulently claim compensation for 41 people by getting their names added to the list of the dead during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, a police source said.

The Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police registered the case almost 10 days after the fraud came to light in a screening committee meeting of the police anti-riot cell and the Delhi government’s revenue department, the source informed.

Modi-phobia driving CBI probe in Ishrat Jahan case: Jaitley

Accusing the Congress-led UPA government of “destroying institutions,”, BJP leader Arun Jaitley on Tuesday said that the cost of its “Modi-phobia” would be paid by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in the case of the alleged killing of Ishrat Jahan.

In an article on the party’s website on Tuesday, Jaitley said there were news reports that the CBI has been interrogating senior officers of the IB in the case of alleged killing of Jahan.

Jaitley, the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, questioned the evidence in cases instituted against BJP leaders.

CBI files chargesheet against six in ‘cash-for-vote’ scam

The CBI on Tuesday filed chargesheet against six persons, including an MLA and two industrialists, in the horse trading case that forced Election Commission of India to hold Rajya Sabha elections afresh after scraping its original poll notification in 2012.

The chargesheet was filed in the special CBI court here against JMM MLA Sita Soren, her father B Majhi, the then Independent candidates and industrialists R K Agarwal and Pawan Kumar Dhoot and Dhoot’s agent Sunil Kumar Maheswari and one Rajendra Mandal, CBI officer A K Jha said.

Four persons run over by local train

Four persons, including a woman, were run over by a local train, in Sealdah-Budge Budge section near Santoshpur station on Tuesday night.

Police sources said as five-six youths and a 65-year old woman were standing on the railway track when the UP Budge-Budge local suddenly appeared.

As they tried to move away, the down train also came on the next line and four of the victims did not have any chance to move away to safety at around 8:30 pm.

Train movement was disrupted for some time till the bodies were removed.

Defence Minister Antony arrives in Australia on maiden visit

‘Suspicious’ cyclists sends Jaipur cops into tizzy

A phone call regarding suspicious movement by two cyclists near a crowded Hanuman temple here today threw the police into a tizzy.

Police swung into action and extensive checking and searches were conducted in the area after a man informed the police control room that he saw a cyclist who hurriedly parked his cycle, with tiffin on its carrier, in the middle of bikes and walked towards the temple in Chandpole.

Orders issued for filling up 33, 738 vacancies

Govt. of A.P. has given green signal for filling up 33, 738 vacancies through A.P. Public Service Commission, A.P. State Level Police Recruitment Board and District Selection Committee. These vacancies include Group-I, Group-II, Group-IV and Non-Gazetted posts. Govt. of A.P. made recruitments earlier on 52,000 vacancies against 1.20 lakh vacant posts.

A.P. Public Service Commission will fill up 11, 250 vacancies whereas Police Board and District Selection committee will make appointment to the extent of 11, 623 and 10, 865 vacancies.

US soldier to plead guilty over Afghan massacre

A US soldier accused of killing 16 Afghan villagers is expected to plead guilty in return for escaping the death penalty, when he appears before a military tribunal.

Sergeant Robert Bales faces charges including 16 counts of murder, six of attempted murder and seven of assault over the massacre in southern Afghanistan in March last year.

The 39-year-old will appear at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state to enter his plea over the killings, which further strained already tense US-Afghan ties.

Andhra Pradesh to partner with MIT to better its education

Andhra Pradesh is set to sign an MOU with the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology to tap its vast resources to help give the state’s educational system a face lift, the state’s information technology and communications minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah said here today.

The minister said the finer details are being worked out and the memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be signed within a few months.
