Madhuri Dixit, who ruled the hearts of the audience in 80s and 90s, says when she started her career, people tried to pull her down by saying she won`t be able to make her place in Bollywood.

“Being a woman you always go through something or the other. When I made my debut in Bollywood, many people told me I can`t do, it`s not a good place, I can`t make my position in this industry. But that time I had faith in myself and worked and proved everyone what can I do,” Madhuri said at an event here yesterday.

There is no place for terrorism in Islam, leading Islamic seminary Darul-uloom Deoband’s Vice Chancellor Maulana Abdul Khalik has said.

Khalik said this during his address at the foundation laying ceremony of a Madarsa at Shahpur town last evening.

Emphasising that Darul Uloom Deoband and other Madarsas promoted the Islamic teaching of love and harmony, he appealed to Muslims to work for the upliftment of the community with help of education.

Nawaz Sharif won the election by securing 244 votes out of the total 317 votes cast in Wednesday’s polling, reported Xinhua.

Man held for raping minor in Odisha

A 42-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl at a village in Odisha’s Ganjam district, police said today.

Accused Panchu Sahu worked at Surat and had come home at Bhetani village in Aska area for his daughter’s wedding when he committed the offence on Sunday, they said.

The accused, who raped the 12-year-old girl when she was alone at home, was arrested yesterday.

Sahu and the victim were sent to MKCG Medial college and Hospital at Berhampur for examination, police said.

Ten-year old gang-raped in Purulia

A ten-year-old girl has been allegedly gangraped in neighbouring West Bengal’s Purulia district.

The girl was gangraped when she went to attend a marriage function along with her family members on May 30, police said.

The family members, who confirmed the incident, brought the girl to the Tata Main Hospital here for treatment last night but the authorities initially refused to admit her as it was a police case.

The police intervened following which the victim was admitted to the hospital, Superintendent of Police S Karthik said today.

Guj bypolls: BJP wins 2 Lok Sabha, 3 Assembly seats from Cong

BJP today swept five of six seats – two of Lok Sabha and three Assembly which were previously held by the Congress – in the by-elections held in Gujarat.

BJP is also leading in the Dhoraji Assembly seat where counting of votes is on.

“BJP candidates have won in two Lok Sabha seats of Banaskantha and Porbandar and three Assembly seats of Limbadi, Morva Hadaf and Jetpur,” said state election official.

All the six seats had earlier been held by Congress candidates.

PM on Maoists: democracy has no place for such violence

Students protest against fake drugs in Srinagar

Dozens of school children here Wednesday staged a peaceful protest against fake drugs in Jammu and Kashmir.

Carrying banners and placards saying “Fake drugs kill!”, children from schools marched through the city centre Lal Chowk and other markets in the state’s summer capital.

“We have carried out many protests and marches against fake drugs. But today’s protest is expected to shake the conscience of the society,” said Saleem Ibn Sultan, who organised the children’s protest.

UK to provide 18 million dollar aid to Bangladesh factory workers

The UK government has declared that it will donate 18 million pounds as aid for the safety and skills training of low-skilled Bangladeshi factory workers.

The announcement has been made in the wake of the factory collapse that killed over 1,100 people.

British Conservative Party politician Alan Duncan has made the announcement as he met the survivors of the world’s worst industrial disasters at a Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed in Savar, the district where the collapse took place, the BBC reports.

Three children injured in bomb explosion

Three children were injured when a bomb, concealed in a steel box they were playing with, exploded on the road near the residence of former BJP district chief Vijay Kumar Sinha here on Wednesday, police said.

Only one bomb exploded when the children were playing with three abandoned steel boxes, containing as many bombs, and threw them on the ground, Deputy Superintendent of police, Saharyar Akhtar said.

While two injured were referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in Patna in a serious condition, another was admitted to Sadar Hospital.

(Siasat News) Moghalpura police has arrested four persons involved in killing their brother-in-law (sister’s husband).

As per the details, the deceased Mohd. Muneer had come to his in-law’s place to take his wife Rafia sultana on May 31 where all his brother-in-laws (wife’s brothers) attacked him with knife and iron rods, killing him instantly.

Police said that Muneer and Rafia were not on good terms for quite some time and Rafia had come to her parent’s house. Both have three children.

India to have 348 million Internet users by 2017: Cisco

India has the fastest Internet traffic growth globally and is expected to have 348 million users by 2017, a study by networking giant Cisco said.

According to Cisco’s Visuals Networking Index (VNI) forecast (2012-17), Internet traffic in India will reach 2.5 exabytes per month in 2017, up from 393 petabytes per month in 2012. One exabyte equals 1 million terabytes.

“In India, there will be 348 million Internet users in 2017, up from 138 million in 2012,” the VNI forecast said.

Domino’s testing drones for pizza delivery

Domino’s Pizza has hired a creative agency called T + Biscuits to test the feasibility of octocopter drones that could deliver a hot, delicious pizza at your doorstep.

Heavily branded as the DomiCopter, the current prototype can deliver two, large pizzas in about ten minutes within a four mile radius of the store, Fox News reported.

While future versions could hypothetically use GPS coordinates to deliver the pie, the existing model is piloted from the ground by someone experienced in drone flight.
