One person injured with a policeman near Assembly

Policemen who are supposed to control criminals and the traffic movements of the citizens seemed to have lost control. Their attitude is causing unrest among the public. One such incident took place near AP State Assembly where a policeman collided with a citizen and injured him seriously. Some passersby came to his rescue, which averted a great danger. Some other policemen who were witnessing this incident reached the spot and instead of pacifying the injured person they started abusing the commuters.

Dargah Hussain Shah Wali Wakf Land case in Supreme Court

Instead of filing a case in Supreme Court for the protection of Wakf Land belonging to Dargah Hazrath Hussain Shah Wali, AP Wakf Board had submitted a petition making Lanco Hills a party for not allowing it to issue loans from the Banks are for not registering any property sold by this company. Reliable sources indicated that in the petition submitted by AP Wakf Board, there is no plea for declaring this property as Wakf Land but the plea is to issue orders for stopping Lanco Hills from selling its properties.

No slashing of number of Hajj aspirants: Salman Khurshid

Foreign minister Salman Khurshid assured that the number of Hajj aspirants going to Hajj 2013 by the Central Hajj Committee will not be slashed and the request made by Saudi Arabian government to reduce the number of Hajj aspirants by 20 percent will not be applied to Hajj Committee aspirants.

Abdul Qadeer’s parole period extended for 3 weeks

Justice Naushad Ali of AP High Court ordered for the extension of parol period of Mr. Abdul Qadeer for another 3 weeks. Mr. Abdul Qadeer has been on parole for quite sometime. The judge issued this orders before the expiry of his parole period on 30th June. Ms. Sabera Begum W/o Mr. Abdul Qadeer had submitted a petition in the High Court for the extension of her husbands parole period. Her advocate Ms. Pushpendar Kaur informed the court that her client’s husband’s 1 leg has been amputated due to diabetes and another leg has also been effected. Department of Posts applies for banking licence

The Department of Post Thursday submitted application before the Reserve Bank for a licence to offer full-fledged banking services.

“We have approached RBI today and hopefully having met all the conditions of RBI, an in-principle approval might be given. If it is given, I think, it will be a revolutionary step because it will bring banking, subject to Cabinet approval, to the doorstep of the ordinary man in this country,” Telecom and IT Minister Kapil Sibal said.

The RBI is in the process of granting fresh banking licences and has set July 1 as the deadline for applying.

Indian prisoner dies in Lahore

An Indian prisoner died of a suspected heart attack in a hospital in this eastern Pakistani city on Thursday, official sources said.

Zakir Mumtaz, believed to be a resident of a village near Amritsar, was admitted to Jinnah hospital yesterday after he fell ill, sources said.

Mumtaz, 50, died of suspected cardiac arrest, the sources said.

However, they said the exact cause of death would be ascertained after an autopsy.

The Indian national was arrested on August 3, 2011 for allegedly crossing the border illegally.

Five killed in Afghanistan blast

Five people were killed as a roadside bomb struck a car in Afghanistan’s Laghman province on Thursday, an official said.

A mine planted by militants struck a car in Omarzai area on the outskirts of provincial capital Mehterlam at around 03.00 pm on Thursday, leaving five civilians dead and injured another, reported Xinhua citing a provincial official.

Four killed in Syrian suicide bombing

At least four people were killed and many others wounded when a suicide bomber struck near Damascus on Thursday, the state media said.

The attack occurred in the Mariamieh Patriarchate in the old quarter of Damascus, apparently targeting a military checkpoint in the area, reported Xinhua citing witnesses.

Nawaz Sharif to visit China on his first foreign visit

On his first foreign visit since assuming office, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will go to China next week where he is likely to seek Beijing’s assistance to overcome the country’s energy crisis.

This would be the first foreign trip of the Prime Minister since the new government has taken over earlier this month, Pakistan Foreign Ministry Spokesman Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry said at his weekly briefing here today.

He said the dates for the visit would be determined through diplomatic channels.

UPA govt devaluing institutions, says Modi

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said the UPA government was devaluing the institutions, and accused it of pitting CBI against the IB.

“By misusing CBI, you are destroying the fabric of the country. Our Congress friends don’t understand this as their selfish interests are involved,” he said.

“Now CBI is interrogating IB, asking them who are their informers,” he said. “Nobody has misused CBI as much.”

Cabinet clears GoM recommendations on CBI autonomy

The Union Cabinet on Thursday cleared suggestions by the Group of Ministers to bring autonomy in the working of CBI which include constitution of a panel of retired judges to oversee the investigations undertaken by the agency besides increased financial powers of its Director.

Sources said the GoM, chaired by Finance Minister P Chidambaram, has recommended constitution of a panel of retired judges which would monitor the investigations undertaken by the agency to ensure that probes remain free from any external influence.

US begins sending arms for Syrian rebels

The central intelligence agency (CIA) has started sending weapons to Jordan with a view to arming small groups of vetted Syrian rebels within a month, a US media report said.

The CIA is expected to spend up to three weeks bringing light arms and possibly anti-tank missiles to Jordan, reported Wall Street Journal citing diplomats and US officials briefed on the plans Thursday.

Gangster Abu Salem shot inside Taloja prison, injured

Gangster Abu Salem, an accused in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, was on Thursday attacked inside Taloja Central Jail in neighbouring Navi Mumbai, police said.

According to police, Salem was shot by Devendra Jagtap, an accused in the advocate Shahid Azmi murder case.

Salem sustained injury to his hand as Jagtap fired one round.

This is the second attack on Salem inside a jail after he was deported from Portugal in 2005. He had faced attack at the Arthur Road jail here in 2010.

Another Indian prisoner dies in Pakistani jail

Zakir Mumtaz was taken to Jinnah Hospital for medical treatment on Wednesday after he fell ill.

The 50 year-old prisoner died from a suspected heart attack a day later, officials told Press Trust of India.

A resident of an Amritsar village, Mumtaz was arrested for an alleged illegal border crossover on August 3, 2011.

He was imprisoned in the Sheikhupura jail before being sent to the Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore.

The exact cause of death has still not been ascertained and would be confirmed after an autopsy.

TV actress booked for obtaining passport on fake details

TV actress Charu Asopa was booked here today for obtaining passport allegedly on the basis of fake details.

Asopa, who hails from the city, was issued the passport some times back.

According to the police, Asopa had mentioned while applying for the passport that she was unmarried, while later it was found that she was married to Somveer Pujari.

“The fact came to the light recently following which the SP directed Sadar Police to lodge an FIR against her under appropriate sections of Passports Act and IPC,” SHO Sadar Prashant Kaushik said.

Expressing deep concerns over India’s policy of preferring domestically manufactured information and communication technology (ICT) goods, the apex body of US telecom industry has told lawmakers that this will have negative impact on exports and economic competitiveness.

“We are deeply concerned over India’s Preferential Market Access (PMA) policy mandating preferences for domestically manufactured ICT goods – which may include software as well as hardware,” the Telecommunication Industry Association (TIA) wrote in a letter to US lawmakers yesterday.
