Amit Shah to begin UP innings from June 12

Amit Shah, a close aide of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and national general secretary of the BJP, will begin his innings as party in-charge of Uttar Pradesh June 12.

Sources in the Bharatiya Janata Party state unit here said the controversial former Gujarat minister would be taking part in a meeting of office bearers at the Lucknow headquarters to “feel the pulse of the party”.

As part of his daylong engagements here, Shah would interact with grassroots workers and hold deliberations with the top brass of the party, including state president Laxmikant Bajpayi.

Dhoni urges Team India to adapt quickly to new ICC Champions Trophy rules

Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has said the team will have to adapt quickly to the new set of one-day cricket rules that will be applicable during the ICC Champions Trophy, when they take on South Africa in the first match of the tournament today.

Speaking ahead of Thursday’s encounter against the Proteas, Dhoni said that while India are world one-day champions, none of the trophies won go into his cabinet.

Baba Ramdev to undertake pro-Modi yatra in July

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has announced plans for undertaking a yatra or procession to mobilise support for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in July.

Interacting with media here on Wednesday, Baba Ramdev accused some irresponsible leaders of trying to sabotage Modi’s likely bid to become the country’s next prime minister.

Baba Ramdev described Modi as the only leader to have both guts and the courage to take on the United Progressive Alliance government, which is facing the heat over a number of corruption instances.

Mild to moderate rain likely across state

Mubashiruddin Khurram elected vice president HUJ

Elections for Hyderabad Union of Working Journalist (HUJ) a sub-organisation of Andhra Pradesh Union of working Journalist (APUWJ) were held. The authorities of the new organization were elected unopposed.

Mr. V Yadgiri was elected as president HUJ while Mohammed Mubashiruddin Khurram staff reporter Siasat was elected as vice president. The other vice presidents include Mr. Taher Romani, Mr. N Srinivas Reddy, Mr. T Nagraj Gupta, Mr. E Chandrasekhar and Mrs. V Manjula.

Mohammed Shareef was elected as treasurer. A total of 20 board members were elected.

IPL probe: Shilpa husband Raj Kundra’s passport seized

The passport of Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra has been seized and he has been asked not to leave the country till the spot fixing probe is over, a Delhi Police official said Thursday.

“We have seized Kundra’s passport so he doesn’t go out of the country till the spot fixing probe is over. We will be questioning him further,” a police official said.

Kundra, who is a British national, has businesses in Dubai, Ukraine and Botswana.

A new study suggests that health problems linked to obesity – like heart disease and diabetes – could skip an entire generation.

Currently, concern about the obesity epidemic is mainly focused on the health of obese women and their children, rather than the wider family.

(Siasat News): An unidentified dead body of a Muslim man found from near Shamshabad talaab. The age of the deceased is said to be between 60 to 65 years and wearing a purple shirt on which New Palace Hotel is written whereas the colour of the pant is black.

The dead body is shifted to Osmania Hospital for identification. Shamshabad RGI police has registered a case.

By-poll loss is not defeat of JD-U: Nitish Kumar

Losing the Maharajganj Lok Sabha by-election was not a JD-U defeat as the RJD had won the seat in 2009 and had now just retained it, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said Thursday, a day after the results of Sunday’s polling were announced.

“It is not at all a defeat of the JD-U (Janata Dal-United) because it was an RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) seat and it retained it,” Nitish Kumar, who arrived here from New Delhi where he attended the chief ministers’ conference, told reporters.

Encephalitis kills seven more, toll 19

Seven more children have succumbed to encephalitis in Bihar, taking the total deaths in the state since early May to 18, officials said Thursday.

Two of the children died Wednesday and one Thursday morning in hospitals in Muzaffarpur district, a health official said.

Over half a dozen children were warded in hospitals in Muzaffarpur, about 70 km from here.

Bihar Health Minister Ashwani Kumar Choubey blamed the deaths on the sudden rise in mercury since Monday following rains in north Bihar as well as humid weather.

Saudi Arabia bans communication application viber

Saudi Arabia’s telecom regulator has banned use of the web-based communication application Viber, which is hard for the state to monitor and deprives licensed telecom companies of revenue from international calls and texts.

The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) announced the ban in a statement and affirmed it will take appropriate action against any other applications or services if they fail to comply with regulatory requirements and rules in force in the kingdom, reports Gulf News.

CITC did not explain what regulatory requirements and rules it breached.

Rebekah Brooks pleads not guilty to phone hacking-related charges

Former News International chief Rebekah Brooks has pleaded not guilty to conspiring into phone hacking, pervert course of justice and unlawfully pay officials.

Brooks pleaded not guilty to the series of criminal charges over a nine-year period when she edited the News of the World and the Sun, and latterly ran the newspaper publisher.

According to the Guardian, she pleaded not guilty to five charges relating to three separate police investigations on Wednesday at Southwark crown court.

Mukherjee to embark on three-day visit to Madhya Pradesh

President Pranab Mukherjee will undertake a three-day visit to Madhya Pradesh from today.

During his visit to the state, Mukherjee will lay the foundation stone for Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hindi University at Bhopal on June 6. On the same day, he will also attend the 8th Convocation of Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya and inaugurate the tribal museum in Bhopal .

Six killed in road accident in Bihar

Six persons, including a policeman, were killed in a road accident on NH-2 in Bihar’s Gaya district Thursday morning.

Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rajesh Kumar said that two cycle-borne youths were killed in the accident.

A police man along with three other locals was looking for a vehicle to take the two bodies for postmortem when a speeding truck came from behind and crushed them to death on the same spot, SDPO said.

The truck fled away, he said, adding a search is on to locate the vehicle and driver.

In a miraculous incident, a woman in Minnesota who was hospitalized after complaining of severe back pain gave birth to a daughter a day later.

Trish Staine, an aspiring half- marathon runner, thought her unbearable back pain was cause by a two-hour training session.

The 33-year-old said she had no idea she was pregnant before the surprise birth on Monday, Stuff.co.nz reported.

The Duluth mother of three said she hadn’t gained any weight or felt fetal movement in the months before. And besides, her husband had a vasectomy.

Four killed as bus collides with truck in UP

Two sisters were among four persons, who were on Thursday killed and at least 12 others got injured when a bus in which they were travelling in collided with a truck in Bhamaura area, police said here.

The incident occurred this morning when the roadways bus collided with the stationery truck near Makrandpur village on Badaun road killing four persons, including two sisters and the bus driver on the spot, they said.

The sisters have been identified as Sakhsi (12) and Sunaina (8), police said.

The injured have been admitted to hospitals.

FBI to start tracking hate crimes against Sikhs, Hindus, Arabs in US

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will begin formally tracking hate crimes against Sikhs, Hindus and Arabs in the United States.

The move comes after years of pressure from civil rights groups and lawmakers who say attacks against religious and ethnic minorities are not adequately monitored by law enforcement, reports the Huffington Post.

The move, which will go into effect by 2015, is being praised by Sikh, Hindu and Arab advocates hoping to avoid underreporting of hate crimes and increase awareness among law enforcement of their religions and cultures.

Black Caps ‘still on track’ for Champions Trophy, says captain McCullum

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum has said that his team is still right on track for the ICC Champions Trophy despite some costly lapses against England.

The Black Caps collected their ODI cricket series victory medals at Trent Bridge, despite losing the third game by 34 runs, for a 2-1 series result, Stuff.co.nz reports.

How HIV kills immune cells?

Scientists at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, have discovered how HIV triggers a signal telling an infected immune cell to die.

This finding has implications for preserving the immune systems of HIV-infected individuals.

HIV replicates inside infection-fighting human immune cells called CD4+ T cells through complex processes that include inserting its genes into cellular DNA.

The scientists discovered that during this integration step, a cellular enzyme called DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK) becomes activated.

A new study has found that certain females consume male ejaculate and sperm as if they were food, using the nutrients to fuel their own bodies as well as their eggs.

“If males have their sperm consumed, rather than used for egg fertilization, they will lose that reproductive opportunity. Therefore, it is in the male’s best interests to try to ensure at least some of his sperm reaches the female’s eggs,” lead author Benjamin Wegener, a researcher at Monash University’s School of Biological Sciences, told Discovery News.

US First Lady Michelle Obama threatened to leave a Democratic Party fund raising event after she was repeatedly interrupted during her speech by a protester, who demanded equality for gays and lesbians.

Michelle was addressing a Democratic Party fundraiser in a private Kalorama home in Washington late yesterday when pro-LGBT rights individual standing at the front started shouting for an executive order on gay rights.

US exempts India and 8 others from sanctions for Iranian oil

United States today exempted India and eight other countries from sanctions for importing oil from Iran, noting that these countries have significantly reduced their dependence on Iranian oil in the last six months.

US Secretary of State John Kerry said that India, China, Malaysia, Republic of Korea, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Turkey, and Taiwan have qualified for an exception to sanctions under America’s Iran Sanctions Act, based on additional significant reductions in the volume of their crude oil purchases from Iran or for reducing those purchases to zero and remaining there.

Man kills father with crossbow in Italy for MONEY

A 24-year-old man in Italy has confessed to killing his father with a crossbow after he refused to give him money.

Labourer Nicola d’Auria turned himself to police in the coastal town of Castellammare di Stabia near Naples.

He said he fired two crossbow bolts at his father following a row at the family’s apartment.

Forty-eight-year-old Pasquale D’Auria, a bricklayer, was hit twice in the left thigh and died of a haemorrage and punctured spleen soon after he was admitted to hospital.
