Jagan case: CBI seeks judicial custody of Sabitha, Dharmana

The CBI, probing the alleged disproportionate assets case against YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, today sought judicial custody of former Andhra Pradesh ministers P Sabitha Indra Reddy and Dharmana Prasad Rao.

The central agency sought their judicial custody from the special CBI court alleging that former state Home Minister Sabitha Reddy and the then Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao were making statements before media claiming that they were innocent and would come out of the case.

Don’t read too much into Advani’s absence: BJP

Senior BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu on Friday said the media should not read too much into party veteran L K Advani’s absence from the office-bearers’ meeting in Goa.

“Don’t try to read too much into his absence for today,” Naidu said while responding to questions by reporters.

Advani would arrive in Goa on Saturday and will stay for two days to attend National Executive meeting, Naidu told mediapersons at the meeting venue.

He said Advani could not make it today because of the health problems.

DA case: Jagan’s custody extended, Sabitha appears in court

Former Andhra Pradesh Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy, YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and others today appeared before a special CBI court here in connection with the case relating to alleged quid-pro-quo investments in Kadapa MP Jagan’s companies.

The court extended the judicial custody of Jagan and his financial advisor V Vijay Sai Reddy till June 21 and posted the case to the same date while directing all the accused to again appear before it.

Israeli serial sex abuser adopts Indian girl: report

An Israeli man convicted of sex offences against young children has got custody of a four-year-old Indian girl through an agreement with a surrogate mother in India, according to a media report.
The man legally adopted the child through an agreement with the surrogate Indian mother and under current legislation the Israeli authorities do not have the power to remove the girl away from him, the Jewish Chronicle reported.

Buildings selection to accommodate Hajj pilgrims

Mr. Abdul Hameed executive officer Andhra Pradesh State Hajj Committee and Chief Executive Officer Waqf Board has been selected as a member of Building Selection Committee. He will be on a visit to Saudi Arabia from June 18 to July 10 and will select buildings for Indian Hajj Pilgrims. Principal Secretary Raymond Peter issued GO RT 86 in this connection on Thursday.

Information sought on Sawani report on spot fixing: Dalmiya

The Indian cricket board has sought information from Mumbai and Delhi Police on an interim report submitted by its Anti-Corruption and Security unit chief regarding the spot fixing scandal, board’s interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya said Thursday.

The report was submitted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Anti-Corruption and Security unit chief Ravi Sawani.

Chanchalguda jail road closed for public use

The stretch of road in front of the historical Chanchalguda jail was finally closed for public use and it is planned to set up gates at both the sides of the roads. The jail constructed by Nizam of Deccan in 1870 was once spread over 100 acre but now it has shrunk to just 30 acre land.

The Chanchalguda jail built in the period of Prime minister of Hyderabad Deccan Mir Laeq Ali Salar Jung I, initially housed police department; then revenue department and court was established in the building; later in 1878 it was converted into the Central jail.

One held for raping physically challenged woman

One person has been arrested for allegedly raping a 40-year-old physically challenged woman here, police said today.

The 45-year-old accused had entered her house on June 4 and allegedly raped her, police said.

Following a complaint last evening, the man was arrested. He has been remanded to judicial custody and lodged in the central prison at Salem, they added.

Woman commits suicide over dowry, husband booked

A woman, upset over persistent dowry demands by her husband, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself to death at her parents’ house in Khalwargate area here, police said today.

Following the complaint, police have registered a case against the husband of the 38-year-old Neeru Bala, who died yesterday.

Victim’s mother Shashi Bala alleged that Neeru’s husband Mischal Sardana had been harassing her by demanding dowry, despite paying the amount to him twice in the past.

Emergency BCCI meeting to discuss Kundra issue

An emergency working committee meeting of the BCCI will be held June 10 to discuss the issue of Rajasthan Royals co-owner Raj Kundra’s alleged involvement in betting in the Indian Premier League (IPL), board’s interim chief Jagmohan Damiya announced Thursday and promised “strict action” if warranted.

The two telecom ventures headed by the Ambani brothers, Mukesh and Anil, Friday announced yet another accord – this time to share the nation-wide telecom towers infrastructure of Reliance Communications.

The aggregate value is at over Rs.12,000 crore (more that $2 billion) during the lifetime of the deal, the companies said.

Kansas-based design and engineering firm Minddrive restored a 1967 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia to battery electric power, but there’s a twist to the way it gets from A to B.

The engineering and design team behind the project developed a device that monitors social media activity in order to keep the car running.

Chidambaram’s mother passes away

Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s mother Lakshmi Palaniappan died today.

She was 92, her family said.

She was not keeping well for the past few days and died early this morning, they said.
