City police may enforce helmet rule once again. Addressing road safety workshop Additional commissioner traffic police Mr. Amit Garg told that we are trying to convey the message to the citizens that use of helmet is for their own safety. It is said that only one out of 10 people in Hyderabad uses helmet. Thus the percentage of helmet user is only 10 to 15 percent.

Waqf Board orders demolition of unauthorized constructions at Maqbira Fateha land

Maqbira Fatiha is located at Fateh Darwaza. Some people have illegally constructed houses on the said maqbira land. Despite objection by local youth, Waqf Board and GHMC were evading demolition of illegal constructions.

According to local youth they have been trying to remove unauthorized constructions on the 1000 sqyd land of the maqbira for the past 6 years but Waqf Board and GHMC were deliberately paying no heed to it.

Suspected Boston bomber’s friend was executed: father

The father of Ibragim Todashev, the man who was shot dead last week by US authorities while questioning him about the Boston Marathon bombing suspects, said Thursday that his son was killed with a point-blank shot to the head.

The allegation raised even more questions about an already murky case.

“He was questioned for eight hours,” Abdulbaki Todashev told reporters in Moscow. “Then they shot him, six times in the body and once in the head.”

Russia sends aid to Syrian refugees in Jordan

Russia has sent 38 tonnes of humanitarian aid for over half a million Syrian refugees staying in Jordon.

A Russian plane laden with assistance to Syrian refugees in Jordan arrived in the kingdom Thursday, Xinhua reported.

According to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation, the aid is the third batch of assistance from Russia to the Syrians in Jordan. It includes cooking materials, electricity generators and food material.

The aid is to be distributed soon among the Syrian refugees to help Jordon in reducing the pressure of hosting such a large number of refugees.

US hacking accusations are misplaced, says China

Chinese defence ministry Thursday described the US report, alleging Chinese hackers of having obtained designs for US weapon systems, as erroneous.

The report underestimates the Pentagon’s security capabilities as well as the Chinese people’s intelligence, reported Xinhua citing defence ministry’s spokesperson Geng Yansheng Thursday.

“China already has the ability to build the weapons needed for national security. China’s aircraft carrier, fighter jets, large transport aircraft and Beidou satellite navigation system have clearly demonstrated this,” he said.

Syria to strike back at future Israeli attack

President Bashar al-Assad has said Syria “will respond in kind” to any future Israeli air strike on its territory and expressed confidence in the victory over the foes of the Syrian state.

The Syrian government has been criticised for its muted response to recent Israeli air strikes on several facilities in Syria in alleged attempts to stop shipments of missiles bound for Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group.

“We have informed the relevant states that we will respond in kind (next time),” Assad said in a televised interview with Lebanese al-Manar TV Thursday.

R.R. Patil’s security being reviewed after Maoist threat

The Maharashtra government is reviewing security for state Home Minister R.R. Patil following an open threat issued by Maoist guerrillas, a top official said here Friday.

Bride finds groom ‘too dark’, refuses to marry

In a bizarre incident, a bride in Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh refused to marry, saying the groom was too dark-complexioned. The incident took place in Fursatganj, about 80 km from the state capital, Thursday.

The bride’s family and other villagers gathered for the wedding were shocked by the woman’s response, on seeing the man she was to marry for the first time. According to information available, the ‘baraat’ had come from Naseerabad Jamalpur Harayyiya village; all was well till the bride laid eyes on the groom just before the ‘phere’.

Sexual advances by doctor breach of trust, unacceptable: HC

Sexual advances or touching private parts of a patient by a doctor during clinical examination are “grave breach of trust” and unacceptable, the Delhi High Court has said.

The court’s observations came while dismissing a plea of a homoeopathic doctor against the award of 18 months jail term, besides a fine of Rs 20,000, for touching private parts of a girl who had gone to seek medical help for insomnia, headache and skin disease on May 23, 2007.

Shinde to visit Chhattisgarh today

Iran amends law on stoning for adultery

Iran has amended its internationally condemned law on stoning convicted adulterers to death to allow judges to impose a different form of execution, according to the revision seen today.

The controversial practice, in which stones are thrown at the partially buried offender, has provoked outcries from human rights organisations, international bodies and Western countries urging Iran to abandon it.

Parliament session in July likely to pass Food Bill

Moves appeared to be afoot to call a special Parliament session in July to pass two key bills, including the National Food Security bill.

A final decision on the issue will be taken after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh returns from his foreign tour tomorrow, sources said.

While the dates for the session are being talked about as July 1-5, the government sources said that no schedule has yet been finalised.

Cong can’t win by misusing institutions: Modi

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Thursday said Congress should stop “misusing” constitutional institutions such as CBI.

“Congress should see the clear writing on the wall. You will not succeed in capturing the country by misusing CBI. Stop misusing constitutional institutions like CBI,” Modi said at a function, where a large group of Youth Congress and NSUI workers joined BJP.

“Today people have lost faith in Delhi….In coming days we have by-elections in the state and next year there will be general elections. Congress will pay the price for its misdeeds then,” he said.

Indian teenager killed in car accident in Bahrain

A 19-year-old Indian student was killed and six others were injured when a car they were travelling crashed into a compound wall of a school in Bahrain.

Pratik Baldev Raj was killed on the spot Tuesday night when he was thrown out of the vehicle travelling at high speed, the Gulf Daily News reported Thursday.

A student of Ernst & Young Training Institute, Pratik was an employee of Al Jazira Cold Store Company.

Unfazed by the move of three Congress leaders to quit the party and join Telangana Rashtra Samiti, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today said saying people were free to join any political party but a deadline to resolve the vexed Telangana issue cannot be set keeping in mind its sensitive nature.

He refused to comment on the decision of Congress leader K Keshava Rao and two party MPs G Vivekanananda and Manda Jagannatham to join TRS, saying people were free to join any political party in a democracy.

Ishrat case: CBI grills chief public prosecutor for third day

CBI today summoned the chief public prosecutor of the sessions court here for the third time and questioned him in connection with the 2004 Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case.

Sudhir Brahmabhatt was questioned for almost seven hours, said CBI sources.

Now speculation is rife that some high-profile politicians may be summoned for questioning.

Brahmabhatt was earlier questioned on May 27 and 28 at the CBI’s Gandhinagar office.

He was the special public prosecutor in Akshardham terror attack case of 2002, serial bomb blasts case of 2008 and hooch deaths case of 2009.

Texan gets 25 years in prison for Saudi envoy plot

A man who admitted that he plotted to kill Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States was sentenced today to 25 years in prison.

Manssor Arbabsiar, a US citizen who was born in Iran, pleaded guilty in October to two conspiracy charges and a murder-for-hire count. He admitted he was directed by Iranian military officials to go to Mexico on multiple occasions in 2011 to arrange the assassination attempt, which never occurred.

Arbabsiar lived in Texas, working in real estate and automobile sales since moving to the United States in 1977.

2G trial takes new turn, CBI for Anil & Tina Ambani as witness

Injecting a new element in the 2G spectrum allocation case trial, CBI Thursday asked a Delhi court to “summon” Reliance ADAG Chairman Anil Ambani and his wife Tina Ambani as prosecution witnesses to “arrive at the truth” and for a “just decision” in the case.

CBI moved an application in the court saying Anil Ambani, his wife Tina and 15 other persons are required to be examined as witnesses in the case as “some new facts”, including some bank documents pertaining to money transaction of Rs 997 crore in October 2007 between DB Group Company and Reliance ADA Group companies, have surfaced.

IPL spot-fixing: Chavan gets interim bail for marriagec

Suspended cricketer Ankeet Chavan, an accused in the IPL spot-fixing scandal, was today granted interim bail for a week by a Delhi court to solemnise his marriage scheduled for June 2.

“By denying accused to solemnise marriage which was already fixed, not only he but also the would-be bride and other relatives would also suffer because of no fault of theirs,” Additional Sessions Judge Vinay Kumar Khanna said while granting interim bail to Chavan, with a condition that he will have to surrender on June 6.
