Naidu should tender apology: YSRCP

YSR Congress has demanded an unconditional apology from TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu for his baseless remarks on YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the Chanchalguda jail authorities.

“The unsavory remarks of Naidu that people are leading a lavish life in jail have been rejected by the concerned authorities. The TDP leader has to tender an open apology for his rubbish allegations as it demeans the functioning of the jails and hurts the sentiments of our party leaders and cadre,” party spokesperson Jupudi Prabhakara Rao told reporters here on Friday.

SIC disposes 314 Appeal cases in May

State Information Commissioner C Madhukar Raj has disposed 314 appeal cases during the month of May.

Further, wherever it was found that the information was denied to the Applicants without adequate reasons, as many as 119 Show Cause Notices were heard during the month and a penalty of Rs 1,00,000 was imposed in 32 cases on the Public Information Officer who were found to have not acted reasonably and diligently in supplying the information.

CM to lay foundation for several works in city on Saturday

A bomb exploded amid Sunni worshippers leaving a mosque in west Baghdad, one of two attacks today that left seven dead in Iraq, officials said.

30-yr-old man killed in celebratory firing

A 30-year-old man was killed allegedly in celebratory firing during a marriage function in Pratapgarh district, official sources said here today.

Abdul Majid was hit in firing last night by one Ajit Pratap whose sister was getting married in Madhupur village in the district’s Kauhdaur area, IG (law and order) RK Vishwakarma said.

Pratap, who is yet to be arrested, had fired from his licensed double barrel gun, hitting Majid, who was killed on
the spot.

Cattle smugglers kill cop, injure five

A policeman was killed and six others critically injured when a cattle-smuggling gang rammed its truck into a police jeep late Wednesday, police said here Friday.

The incident occurred in Bhadohi near Varanasi. After the incident, the smugglers fled towards Allahabad, 220 km from Lucknow.

On being chased by police, the smugglers stopped their vehicle by the roadside. But when the police jeep halted a little ahead, the truck driver rammed into the vehicle. A sub-inspector and five others were critically injured. Constable Ashok Kumar Yadav, 25, died on the spot.

Can’t label Maoist attack intelligence failure: Shinde

Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde Friday declined to label as an intelligence failure last week’s Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh in which 28 people, including senior Congress party leaders, were killed, saying two probes are being conducted into the audacious assault.

Addressing a joint press conference with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh here, Shinde who returned from the US Thursday, said: “We can’t say if it was due to intelligence failure. A judicial commission and our own enquiry is being conducted. We will decide after we get the reports.”

Apple Halwa

Ingredients
Grated apple – 1 cup (fuji apple, hard ones)
Milk – 1 cup
Milk powder – 2 tsp
Sugar – 1/2 cup
Pure ghee – 1 tsp
Saffron – few strands
Cardamom powder
Food colour as per your choice
Dry fruits for garnishing

Method
1. Wash and grate the apple, transfer the same immediately in the milk to avoid discolouration of the apple.
2. In a kadai, add the ghee, milk and apple, food colour, saffron and boil.
3. The milk will start curdling due to the sourness of the apple. continue stirring.
4. When the mix becomes dry, add the sugar, stir continously.

Tomato – 3-4 (chopped)
Cashews/Almonds – 5-6

Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Garam masala – 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
Cilantro – for garnish
Butter – 2 tblsp
Salt – to taste
Oil – 2 tblsp

Mukherjee lauds Swami Vivekananda”s vision during Maharashtra visit

President Pranab Mukherjee attended the commemoration function of the 120th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda”s voyage from Mumbai to Chicago here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, President Mukherjee said that Swami Vivekananda”s Chicago speeches are amongst the greatest proclamations of inter-faith harmony and universal brotherhood in the history of mankind.

IAF inducts basic trainer aircraft in Hyderabad

The Indian Air Force’s (IAF’s) premier academy in Dundigal, Hyderabad, inducted the basic trainer aircraft Pilatus, PC 7 Mk II on Friday.

Minister of State for Defence Jitendra Singh formally inducted the aircraft into the service.
Three PC-7 MK II aircraft got airborne in a vic formation led by Group Captain R.S. Nandedkar to put up a brief display for the audience.

It was the first formal flight of the basic trainer aircraft over the skies at the Air Force Academy in Hyderabad.

‘Afghan war has cost Britain over £37 bn’

The war in Afghanistan has cost Britain at least GBP 37 billion, a new book has claimed.

In his book, Investment in Blood, to be published next week by Yale University Press, Frank Ledwidge estimates British troops in Helmand have killed at least 500 non-combatants.

According to the Guardian, since 2006, on a conservative estimate, it has cost GBP 15 million a day to maintain Britain’s military presence in Helmand province.

Ranbir to turn detective for Anurag Basu

After mesmerising audiences with his performance as mute Barfi in Anurag Basu’s film with the same name, the actor is all set to play a detective in the director’s next “Jagga Jasoos”.

The 30-year-old, who was present at the special screening of his film “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” here Thursday, confirmed the news.

Letting out that he is playing a detective in “Jagga Jasoos”, Ranbir said: “Yes, this is our second film together. It’s a detective film.”

50% of smokers think limited smoking is not harmful: Survey

Half of the smoking population in the country thinks smoking “within limits” is harmless, a survey by a private general insurance firm has found.

“Half of the smokers continue smoking as they feel doing so within limits does not lead to health issues,” the survey, ‘ICICI Lombard Smoking Habits 2013’, said.
A large portion of respondents (77 per cent) felt that smoking or limited puffing of cigarettes will not have any adverse impact on their health.

Kingfisher Airlines’ 2012-13 net loss at Rs.4,301 crore

Debt-ridden Kingfisher Airlines Friday reported a net loss of Rs.4,301.11 crore for the financial year ended March 31, 2013 against a loss of Rs.2,328.01 crore the previous year.

The airline has been defunct after its scheduled air operator’s permit was suspended by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) due to safety concerns and labour problems since October, 2012.
