Minority Welfare Commissionerate remains non-functional

The government had launched Minority Welfare Commissionerate to improve the performance of institutions run under minority welfare department. But government’s indifference in setting off the commissionerate is exposed by the fact that the official functioning of the office has not begun even after five months.

Government had formed Minority Welfare Commissionerate on December 18, 2012 by issuing GO MS 345. The government also announced 68 posts for the minorities commissionerate (MC) but only four of the 68 posts sanctioned have been filled so far.

MIM, Cong ties in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to continue

Though the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) and Congress parted ways over the Bhagyalaxmi temple row eight months ago, the two parties did not stop sharing power and posts in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). They have now decided to continue sharing berths in the civic body’s standing committee, elections to which will be held on June 6, for the fourth consecutive year. Incidentally, the last date for filing nominations for the 15-member standing committee ended on Monday.

Network marketing firm Amway’s India Chairman and CEO William S Pinckney and two company directors have been remanded to 14 days judicial custody by a local court here.

Pinckney and directors Sanjay Malhotra and Anshu Budhraja were arrested by the Wayanad Crime Branch (Economic Offences) wing from Kozhikode yesterday in connection with three fraud cases registered in Wayanad district.

Kalpetta Judicial First Class Magistrate N Ravishankar last night remanded them for 14 days.

Wife kills husband
(Siasat News): In a bizarre incident, a wife took the extreme step of killing her tyrant husband in Naredmet. The wife Soni committed this heinous crime late last night at R K Puram.

The deceased Shiva, a tractor driver, was an alcoholic and used to fight and beat his wife in inebriated condition.

The same thing happened yesterday but this time Soni could not tolerate her husband’s tyranny and angrily attacked him. Shiva was seriously injured.

Chandrababu Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh enters politics

Nara Lokesh, the son of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu, made a grand entry into politics with the beginning of ‘Mahanadu’, a two day gathering at Gandipet on Monday.

Lokesh, who shared the dias with senior party leaders, has been given a key post and will be now heading the party’s Youth Wing.

For months, a tussle has been going on between Lokesh and NTR Junior, son of senior party leader N Balakrishna, for taking up key roles in the party. The clash even threatened to cause a rift in the TDP.

Chit fund agent commits suicide in Odisha

An agent of a chit fund company allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a running train here.

The body of Abhimanyu Nayak (35), who belonged to Nilgiri area of Balasore district, was recovered by the GRP and sent for post-mortem after the incident yesterday, railway officials said today.

A relative of the deceased said that Nayak was in a depressed state after the chit fund scam surfaced.

Blast in Pakistan; one killed, six injured

The son of a member of an anti-Taliban militia was killed and six others were injured in a roadside bomb attack in Swat in northwest Pakistan on Tuesday.

The bomb was detonated by remote control while Jaja Mian, a member of the Mingora Aman Committee or anti-Taliban militia, was driving through Manglor area of Swat valley. Jaja Mian’s son was killed instantly by the blast.

Six others, including Jaja Mian, were injured and were taken to a hospital in Saidu Sharif town.

“Stop Ghar Ka Khana”: Jail authorities move court against Sanjay Dutt

Yerawada jail authorities today moved a designated TADA court here against allowing home food to actor Sanjay Dutt citing the prison manual which does not provide for extension of such a facility.

Dutt, who is lodged in Yerawada Central prison in Pune, was allowed to have home food and medicines by the TADA court when he surrendered on May 16 to serve his remaining 42 months sentence following his conviction in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts case.

The application was filed today and would be heard in due course, according to jailor Yogesh Desai.

Teachers to be appointed through TRT

State chief minister has approved recruitment on vacant posts in various departments and as many as 1.84 lakh vacant posts will be filled.

The recruitments also include recruitment of trained teachers under school education. The Teachers Recruitment Test TRT will be held under DSC for D.Ed, B.Ed, language pandit candidates.

The notification will soon be finalized. General coaching classes for DSC and TRT are being run at Mahboob Husain Jigar Hall, Siasat Premises opposite Ramkrishna Theatre Abids from 9 am to 1 pm.

Devotees throng temples on first ‘Bada Mangal’ in UP

Thousands of devotees of Lord Hanuman Tuesday thronged various temples here on the occasion of ‘Bada Mangal’, one of the biggest annual festivals celebrated in the city.

The festival, which goes on for four consecutive Tuesdays, is celebrated in the Hindu month of Jeth, and coincides with the months of May or June in the Gregorian calendar.

All the major temples in the city – Dakshinmukhi Hanuman temple in Hazratganj, Purana and Naya Mandir in Aliganj, Chachi Kuan temple in Lal Kuan and the Hanuman Setu temple on the university road – have been decked up with flowers and lights.

Chinese hackers compromise US weapon designs: Report

Chinese hackers have compromised the designs for many of America’s most sensitive advanced weapons systems, according to a media report citing a confidential report prepared for US defence officials.

Among more than two dozen major weapons systems whose designs were breached were programmes critical to US missile defences and combat aircraft and ships, the Washington Post reported citing a report by the Defence Science Board.

Rahul Gandhi to visit Maharashtra today

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will Tuesday tour some of the drought-hit villages in Aurangabad district of the parched Marathwada region in Maharashtra, his office said Monday.

During his day-long tour, he will interact with farmers and labourers grappling with severe water shortage there.

The tour was announced Monday, two days after he cancelled his visit to Jalna and Osmanabad district in the state, which was scheduled for May 27.

Woman’s body found in fridge in Moscow

A woman’s body has been found in an abandoned refrigerator in eastern Moscow, the Investigative Committee said Monday.

The body of the woman, aged between 25-30, had been stuffed in a two-compartment refrigerator which was found in a trash container, a police source said.

The woman is believed to have died around two days ago, investigators said. Numerous bruises, abrasions and cuts were found on the body.

Train runs over woman, protestors squat on track

Train movement to and from the terminal Howrah station was stalled on Monday evening as protestors, angered by a train running over a woman, squatted on track, hurled stones and damaged four trains and injured an assistant driver.

The trouble started after a woman was run over by a suburban local train close to the Howrah station. She later died.

“We tried to put the victim into another suburban train, but the protestors did not allow us. They squatted on the track and stalled train movement of both Eastern and South Eastern Railway,” said an official of Howrah station.

Telangana Resolution to be passed in TDP Mahanadu

A political resolution supporting the formation of separate Telangana State would be moved in 32nd Mahanadu meeting of TDP today. Mr. E. Dayakar Rao, TDP MLA told this. He said that after consulting the senior leaders of TDP, a final decision has been taken to move a resolution to support Telangana. Two students commit suicide after getting low marks in class 12 exams

Two girls committed suicide by hanging themselves in their houses after they got low marks in their Class 12 exams on Monday afternoon, police said. In the first incident, Mahek, 17, committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her house at Rohini area in west Delhi.

A neighbour spotted her body hanging and informed her parents. A suicide note has been found in which she says “sorry” to their parents, said an officer. Mahek obtained low marks in the exam, the officer added.
