As the YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy completed one year of his judicial remand on May 27, party leaders and cadres took to the streets and protested his year-long illegal incarceration on Tuesday by holding rallies and undertaking Deekshas across the state.

Elections to fill vacancies in Lok Satta Party

The Lok Satta Party has constituted an Election Committee to conduct supplementary elections to fill vacancies in the party at the constituency level on June 6 and 7 and at the district level on June 9.

Giving this information in a media statement here on Tuesday, State Lok Satta Party President Katari Srinivasa Rao said that the election committee comprises PV Gopalakrishna (Convener) and M Diwakar and N Janardhan (members).

Met Department predicts rainfall across AP

Having witnessed a long spell of heat wave, several areas in the State got some respite due to rainfall.

While rainfall occurred at a few places over Rayalaseema, isolated rain occurred over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Meanwhile, the Met Department has predicted light to moderate rain or thunder showers at a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. Similarly, rain or thundershowers were also predicted at isolated places over Telangana.

KCR not committed towards Telangana: Palvai

Rajya Sabha MP Palvai Govardhan Reddy on Tuesday accused Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Reddy of lacking commitment towards the Telangana cause.

Talking to reporters here, Palvai said that KCR lacked commitment and determination to achieve statehood for Telangana region. He said formation of Telangana State was possible only if KCR was defeated in the elections. He also accused the Telugu Desam Party leaders of lacking sincerity towards Telangana.

TPJAC asks SA leaders not to link Telangana with Maoists

Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram on Tuesday condemned the statement of some Seemandhra leaders wherein they feared increase in naxal violence after formation of Telangana.

Talking to reporters after TPJAC’s bus yatra reached here, Kodandaram said that the Seemandhra leaders were wrongly trying to link the Maoist violence to Telangana issue. He said that Maoists’ presence was not confined to Telangana region. In view of strong presence of naxalites in the coastal Andhra region, will that area be merged with Tamil Nadu State? he asked.

Don’t want to play sympathy card: ‘Policegiri’ producer

Producer Rahul Agarwal of Sanjay Dutt starrer ‘Policegiri’ says he won’t play the sympathy card and insists it would be unfair to call family for promotions.

In March this year, Supreme Court pronounced Dutt guilty under the Arms Act in connection with the 1993 Mumbai
serial blasts case and sentenced him to five years imprisonment. Considering he was in prison earlier for
sometime, now Dutt has to serve three-and-half years in jail.

Dutt, 53, is currently in Yerwada jail.

IPL spot-fixing: Sreesanth sent to Tihar Jail

Tainted cricketer S Sreesanth, who had been arrested a couple of weeks back for his alleged role in spot-fixing, was on Tuesday sent to judicial custody.

He will be lodged in Tihar jail till his bail plea which would be heard on June 3.

Sreesanth, along with two other Rajasthan Royals team mates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, had been arrested for their involvement in spot-fixing. Several bookies were also arrested after they had been arrested.

Designs of advanced US weapons systems compromised: Report

Chinese hackers have accesed designs of many of America’s most sensitive advanced weapons systems, including programmes critical to missile defences, a US report has said.

According to a report prepared for the Pentagon, among more than two dozen major weapons systems whose designs were breached were programmes critical to US missile defenses and combat aircraft and ships.

A previously undisclosed section of a confidential report prepared for Pentagon leaders by the Defense Science Board did not accuse the Chinese of stealing the designs, Washington Post reported.

Jethmalani expelled from BJP for six years

Rebel BJP MP Ram Jethmalani, who had been critical of the BJP leadership and had revolted against the then party chief Nitin Gadkari, was today expelled from the primary membership of the party for six years on
charges of “breach of discipline”.

The expulsion of 89-year-old Jethmalani, who is a member of Rajya Sabha, by the BJP Parliamentary Board comes weeks after he had barged into a Parliamentary Party meeting and questioned his continued suspension. He had also asked if he could be issued a whip when he has been suspended.

UK jail guards hurt in attack ‘inspired by soldier murder’

Two prison officers have been injured in an attack at a British maximum security jail, officials said today, with media reports claiming the assailants were Muslim inmates inspired by the brutal murder of a soldier.

The prison officers’ union told AFP one of the guards had been held hostage for nearly four hours at Full Sutton prison near York in northern England on Sunday, until riot officers managed to free him.

India today said “serious concerns” have “piled up” in Indo-Pak ties in the backdrop of recent incidents, including killing of an Indian prisoner, which Pakistan will have to address before the two countries pick up “strands” of the composite dialogue.

With various Indo-Pak interactions scheduled in past few months, including at the level of Water Secretaries, being cancelled in the aftermath of the beheading of an Indian soldier along the LoC in January, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said, “We have a composite dialogue which will have to be picked up again”.

Engineering student drowns, body missing

An engineering student slipped and drowned in a canal near Armapur here when he entered the deep waters trying to get his picture clicked, police said today.

Rahul Chauhan (19) had left with his five friends to Vijaynagar bazaar for shopping last evening. En route, the group of friends stopped at the Armapur Canal bridge, where Rahul entered the swift waters to get his picture clicked but he slipped and drowned, they said.

The police divers continued their search for the body till late yesterday but were unsuccessful, they said, adding the search is still on.

Suu Kyi condemns ‘two-child policy’ for Rohingya Muslims

Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has condemned a decision by local officials in Rakhine state to enforce a “two-child policy” on Rohingya Muslims.

Pakistani advocate, two kids shot dead

An advocate and two of his children were gunned down in Karachi Tuesday, a media report said.

Kosar Saqlain, an advocate of the Sindh High Court, and two of his children were shot dead by gunmen who opened fire at their car at Maripur road in Karachi, DawnNews reported.

The lawyer was on his way to drop the two children to school.

The dead were taken to Civil Hospital.

Obama asks people not to forget US is still at war

President Barack Obama urged his fellow citizens not to forget that the US “is still at war” in a Memorial Day speech he gave Monday.

Speaking at Arlington National Cemetery, on the outskirts of Washington, the president said that he is concerned that the sacrifices US troops are making will be forgotten now that the majority of Americans “are not directly touched by war”.

“Today, a transition is underway in Afghanistan, and our troops are coming home. Fewer Americans are making the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan, and that’s progress for which we are profoundly grateful,” he said.

Chhattisgarh attack is announcement of war: BJP

The Maoist attack on Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh was an announcement of war, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said Tuesday and asked the ruling party at the centre to not politicise the issue.

“Congress should not do narrow politics on the attack. Congress should not try to indict the state government in this,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said. The BJP is the ruiling party in Chhatisgarh.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expelled senior lawyer and MP Ram Jethmalani from the primary membership of party for six years over “breach of discipline”.

In a letter to Jethmalani, BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar Tuesday said the party’s parliamentary board had taken a unanimous decision Monday to expel him from membership of the party.

Naxals say attack aimed at “punishing” Patel, Karma

Wife commits suicide after row with husband

28 year old Rukhsana Begum, wife of Mohammed Basheer, resident of Tolichowki, ended her life after a row with her husband.

According to Golconda police the woman poured kerosene over her body and set herself ablaze on May 24, she died yesterday while undergoing treatment.

According to police Rukhsana didn’t like Basheer’s habit of coming home very late and both had frequent quarrels over this issue. Dejected over this Rukhsana resorted to the extreme step. Police has registered a case and investigations are on.
