After analyzing data from nearly 5,000 American adults, the researchers found that the quality of a person”s relationships with a spouse, family and friends predicted the likelihood of major depression disorder in the future, regardless of how frequently their social interactions took place.

Washington, May 1 (ANI): Women who have breast implants and go on to develop breast cancer have a greater risk of dying from the disease than those without, a new study has warned.

Some studies have suggested that cosmetic breast implants can make it more difficult to detect breast cancer at an early stage because they create shadows on mammograms that can obscure some breast tissue.

The Supreme Court has posted to May 2 the bail petition of Vijayasai Reddy, accused in the Jagan Disproportionate Assets (DA) case.

The CBI has filed a petition pleading the apex court to cancel Vijaysai Reddy’s bail. It contended that Vijaysai Reddy is hindering the progress of investigation. It has alleged that the accused no 2 has been coercing the witnessing and there is evidence to this effect.

Since he is influencing the witnesses, the investigation is being delayed, the premier investigation agency told the court.

May Day celebrated across the State

May Day was celebrated by Workers’ Unions and other bodies across the state with the spirit and slogan of Workers of the World Unite.

T MPs call off fast

The Telangana MPs on Wednesday called off their indefinite fast after staging a sit-in at the Parliament for 48 hours.

They were demanding the Government to table a Bill seeking a separate Telangana. They called off their fast at 11.00 AM after doctors conducted medical tests on them.

Mumbai Metro trial run successful

On the occasion of Maharashtra Day, Mumbaikars were treated to a successful trial run of the state’s first Metro railway Wednesday.

Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan flagged off the 3-km long trial run of the Mumbai Metro between Versova and Azad Nagar in north Mumbai’s Andheri suburb.

The section is a part of the 11.40km Versova-Ghatkopar corridor which will provide a vital east-west link and drastically reduce travel time from the existing 90 minutes to barely 20 minutes.

Chavan said that the Versova-Ghatkopar line will become operational by December.

Father, stepmother arrested for death of girl child

Father and stepmother of a seven year-old-girl, who died at the Medical College Hospital after allegedly being tortured by her stepmother, were arrested, police said on Wednesday.

The girl’s mother had died four years back in a road accident after which her father got remarried.

Police said the girl was admitted to a private hospital here with serious burn injuries on Monday.

Doctors, who found the parent’s explanation that the girl had accidentally fallen into hot water unsatisfactory, informed the police about the incident.

SC dismisses challenge to FDI in multi-brand retail

The Supreme Court Wednesday upheld the government policy of allowing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail, holding that as a policy, it did not suffer from any constitutional or statutory infirmity.

The apex court bench headed by Justice R.M. Lodha, while dismissing the petition challenging FDI in multi-brand retail, said: “On matters affecting policy, this court does not interfere unless the policy is unconstitutional, contrary to statutory provisions, arbitrary, irrational, or in abuse of power.”
