Pak umpire Asad Rauf happy to face ICC anti-corruption inquiry

Pakistan umpire Asad Rauf Wednesday denied spot-fixing allegations levelled against him during the Indian Premier League Twenty20 competition, saying he was ready to face any inquiry.

Rauf, who was serving as an elite level international umpire, was withdrawn by the International Cricket Council (ICC) from next month”s Champions Trophy in England after media reports said that he was under police investigation.

Beyonce was hit in her bum while performing at her concert in Copenhagen.

When the 31-year-old singer was parading along the stage and passing the mic to her fans to sing along with her, an over-eager male spanked Beyonce as she walked past him, the Mirror reported.

Myanmar: Mosque, orphanage burned by Buddhists

Sectarian violence spread to a new region of Burma, with a mob burning down a mosque, a Muslim orphanage and shops in a northeastern town after rumors spread that a Muslim man had set fire to a Buddhist woman, authorities said Wednesday.

There were no reported fatalities, according to a police officer and a Buddhist monk in Lashio, the remote northern town near China’s border where the violence erupted Tuesday night. The full extent of the unrest was still unclear, with no immediate reports of how many people may have been injured.

‘Yeh Jawaani…’ to break 10-year jinx for Bollywood in Israel

Since the 2002 film “Devdas”, no Bollywood film is said to have hit screens in Israel. Now, Ranbir Kapoor-starrer “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” will break the dry spell Friday.

The movie, subtitled in Hebrew for the audiences there, will release in India and Israel on the same day. Eros International is releasing the Ayan Mukerji-directed romantic entertainer in that country.

“There is a huge demand for these movies since Israelis and the local Indian population over there are fond of Indian content,” Kumar Ahuja, president (Business Development), Eros International, said in a statement.

Shukla, who met BCCI board and disciplinary committee member Arun Jaitley at his residence here, said they were more concerned about the image of the cricket board.

Women tend to wear red or pink when they are most fertile

A new study has found that women wearing red or pink were about three times more likely to be at peak fertility than women donning other colours.

In the study, researchers from the University of British Columbia asked 124 women ages 18 to 47 what color shirt they were wearing, and when they had had their last period.

After calculating peak fertile days for each woman, the researchers found an association with red and pink shirts and fertility, the New York Daily News reported.

A man claiming to be Jesus is running a religious movement in Kingaroy, Queensland.

Former IT specialist Alan John Miller, or AJ as he prefers to be known, runs a religious movement known as the Divine Truth from his home near the small town of Kingaroy in the state of Queensland.

Miller claims that not only is he Christ, but his partner, Australian Mary Luck, is in fact Mary Magdalene, who according to the Bible was present at the crucifixion.

LPG subsidy directly in bank A/cs from June 1 in 18 districts

Starting June 1 cooking gas (LPG) consumers in 18 districts will get Rs 435 in their bank accounts when they book an LPG cylinder as the government rolls out its ambitious direct benefit transfer programme to cut its fuel subsidy.

The scheme was to be rolled out in 20 districts initially but the launch in Mysore in Karnataka and Mandi in Himachal Pradesh has been put off by a month due to assembly and Parliamentary bypolls, official sources said.

I will not take up IPL position again: Rajeev Shukla

Frustrated with the spot-fixing scandal and a series of other controversies that have plagued the Indian Premier League, the event`s chairman Rajeev Shukla on Wednesday said he was not keen to take up the position again.

Shukla said his tenure was for a one-year period which is renewed every year and he was not willing to take up the high-profile post for a third consecutive term.

“IPL Chief is a one-year post which gets renewed every year in the AGM but I don`t intend to do the job for a third year,” Shukla said on Wednesday.

29 militants killed in Afghan raids within 24 hours: Govt

Gurunath’s police custody extended till May 31

A Mumbai court Wednesday extended till May 31 the police custody of Board of Control for Cricket in India chief N. Srinivasan’s son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan for his involvement in the Indian Premier League (IPL) spot fixing scandal.

Seeking further remand of Meiyappan, police said they needed to confront him and Bollywood actor Vindoo Dara Singh Randhawa, another accused in the case, with a Chennai hotelier Vikram Agarwal.

India and Japan to accelerate negotiations on Nuclear deal

India and Japan on Wednesday agreed to “accelerate” negotiations for early conclusion of the much anticipated bilateral civil nuclear deal.

This was stated by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during a joint press conference here along with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh.

“The two countries will accelerate negotiations for the early conclusion of the civilian nuclear agreement,” Abe said.

Negotiations for the civil nuclear cooperation agreement have not made much headway since Japan was struck by Fukushima nuclear disaster in March, 2011.

Nitish Kumar seeks vote as reward for development work

Hitting the campaign trail for the by-poll to Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today sought votes from the people as reward for the development by his government.

IPL spot-fixing: Defiant Srinivasan ignores resignation demand

Unfazed by mounting demands for his resignation, BCCI President N Srinivasan today continued his streak of defence by refusing to step down from the post.

Shortly after IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla demanded that Srinivasan “disassociate” from the inquiry against his son-in-law and Chennai Super Kings Team in the wake of IPL spot-fixing scandal, the BCCI chief told reporters that Shukla has not suggested anything new and was only voicing what he had himself said on Sunday.

The second Orientation Training Camp for the selected Haj pilgrims for Haj 2013 will be held on 2nd June (Sunday) between 10:30 AM and 4:30 PM at Jama Masjid Darul Shifa, Hyderabad.

AP State Haj Committee Chairman Syed Khaleeluddin Ahmed will preside over the function. Eminent scholars and experts will give training to the pilgrims on Haj rituals and logistic arrangements.

TRS Medak MP Vijayashanti on Wednesday called on Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at latter’s office at the Secretariat.

According to sources, Vijayashanti discussed Medak-Akannapet Railway Project with the Chief Minister. Later, she handed over a cheque of Rs One crore from MP quota to the Chief Minister for the works of Medak-Akkannapet Railway Station. The meeting lasted for about 15 minutes, source said. (INN)

Fire in Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, no injuries reported

A fire broke out in the sixth floor of Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital in north-east Delhi this morning, fire brigade officials said. There was no immediate report of any injuries in the incident that took place in the hospital located near Dilshad Garden.

The blaze was reported from the AC plant of the hospital in the sixth floor at around 11:05 AM and 18 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire.

Teacher arrested for molesting three-year-old

A dance teacher was arrested here Wednesday for allegedly molesting a three-year-old girl, police said.

The incident occurred at a prominent school Tuesday when a dance teacher touched the girl’s private parts during a summer camp.

On returning home, the victim told her mother about the incident.

The girl’s mother and some women activists went to the school and thrashed the teacher, Ajay.

He was then handed over to police.

Goa rape: Smriti Irani to enquire about case status

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice president Smriti Irani said Wednesday she would take up with the Goa government the case of a minor rape victim, who is awaiting justice for the last four months as the accused is yet to be arrested.

“I will enquire about it and find out the status (of the case),” Irani said while responding to a question as to why the BJP government in the state failed to nab the culprit despite forming a special investigating team to crack the case.
