Assembly session next month

The second phase of the State Legislative Assembly will be held next month.

Assembly speaker Nadendla Manohar held a meeting with chairmen of Standing Committees, officials and Council Chairman Chakrapani. He asked the Chairmen of Sanding Committees to submit their report on the budget session by this month end.

The Speaker said that Standing Committees will help in bringing in accountability.

Minister for Legislative Affairs D Sridhar Babu suggested that Standing Committees should work beyond party lines. (INN)

Ranbir Kapoor detained at Mumbai airport

A homeward-bound Ranbir Kapoor was detained at the Mumbai International Airport on Saturday morning. The actor hadn’t declared several duty-free items that were with him. After an inquiry session lasting for close to three hours and a fine of more than Rs. 50,000, the actor was let off.

Ranbir was returning from London via a British Airways’ aircraft and was detained by authorities at the Mumbai International Airport when the undeclared stuff was found with him.

Local bodies elections may be delayed

The elections to local bodies could be delayed if they are to be held as per the 2011 Census.

The elections could be delayed by 35 days if we carry out the polls as per the latest census, State Electoral Officer Ramakanth Reddy told reporters here on Friday.

Speaking to reporters here, he said that the regional review meetings will help solve local problems. “We have come here to know firsthand the issues at the grassroot level,” he said adding that many issues have come to their notice.

The last of the regional review meetings will be held in Hyderabad, he said. (INN)

30 Girls 20 boys Arrested for Illegal Romance at a Resort near Hyderabad

Thirty girls and 20 boys were arrested by the police for illegal romance at a resort near Eerlapalli village under Chevella mandal of RR district, on the outskirts of the city.

Police raided the resort on information that prostitution was taking place in the resort. Police were shocked to see some of the youngsters naked when they raided. It is learnt that some of the boys are the sons of big leaders and business men. The resort reportedly procured the girls.

Bilawal Bhutto Leaves Pak Over Threats to Life

Pakistan People’s Party chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has left on a foreign trip and will not be present in the country when it goes to polls on May 11, according to a media report on Friday. Bilawal, 24, will not address any rallies ahead of the election due to threats to his life, PPP sources were quoted as saying on website of the Dawn newspaper.

Senior PPP leader Taj Haider confirmed that the party had advised Bilawal not to lead the poll campaign due to serious security threats.

Government hospital doctor arrested for taking bribe

A senior doctor at a government hospital in Rajasthan’s Udaipur district was arrested on Friday for taking bribe of Rs 500 for treating a breast cancer patient, police said. Dr Suresh Kumar Dangayach, the head of radio therapy department at Maharana Bhupal Hospital in Udaipur, 300 km from Jaipur, was trapped by the state police’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).

Akbar’s recall plea turned down; should appear before court

The Nampally court has rejected the recall petition filed by MIM Floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi in the alleged hate speech case.

This makes him compulsory to attend before the court on May 9 as a Non Bailable Warrant (NBW) is pending against him.

A local court has asked the Madannapet police to produce Akbaruddin Owaisi in the court in connection with a petition filed by a lawyer accusing him of hate speech.

With the recall petition being turned down, Akbaruddin has to appear before the court in connection with one more alleged hate speech case. (INN)

Powerful grenade explosion in Manipur, 5 injured

Five persons were injured when a powerful grenade exploded at a bakery shop in Imphal West district of Manipur, police said on Saturday.

Suspected militants hurled the grenade at the bakery shop at Chingmeirong area on the outskirts of the city on Friday night.

According to police, all the five injured were non-Manipuris.

Board reminder on inter second year supplementary fee

The Board of Intermediate Education informed all the Principals, Students and parents that the last date for payment of examination fee for second year Advanced Supplementary Examinations as May 6.

No extension of date or payment with penalty or Tatkal scheme will be available for supplementary examinations, the Board said in a press release. (INN)

TNGOs meet CS

The TNGO leaders on Friday met Chief Secretary PK Mohanty and presented their charter of demands before him.

The leaders, who came to congratulate him on assuming office, said that there was discrimination against NGOs and urged him to look into the matter.

1 dead, 5 injured in Tihar jail as rival inmates clash

An inmate at the high security Tihar prison died and five sustained injuries on Friday following a violent clash between two groups.

Sources said Javed a resident of Seelumpur succumbed to his injuries at around 4 pm. His body has been sent for postmortem but prima facie it appears that he was attacked with improvised knife. This is the third unnatural death in 2013 in India’s most high profile prison. A judicial probe has now been ordered.

Six-yr-old raped, killed in Madhya Pradesh

Another shocking case of a six-year-old girl being reportedly raped and murdered came to light on Friday.

The incident took place when the six-year-old victim was abducted from near her house. When the girl did not return home by evening, the family went to the police to report her missing, as per a news report.

When a search for the girl was made, her body was found near a pond the next morning. The post-mortem report of the girl has confirmed rape, the report states.

Lalu Prasad injured in accident, sustains injuries in his head, face

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)Lalu Prasad sustained injuries in his head and face when the windshield of a car he was travelling in broke and glass pieces hit him on the head.

The RJD chief was admitted a Patna hospital for treatment.

As per reports, the incident took place at Kachchi Dargah near Patna when Lalu was going to meet the victims of a fire tragedy in Raghopur.

The windshield cracked when the SUV’s driver braked hard on a pontoon bridge on the Ganga river.

Officials: Israel launches airstrike into Syria targeting a suspected weapons site

Israel launched an airstrike into Syria, apparently targeting a suspected weapons site, U.S. officials said.

The strike occurred overnight Thursday into Friday, the officials told The Associated Press. It did not appear that a chemical weapons site was targeted, they said, and one official said the strike appeared to have hit a warehouse.

The U.S. officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

Bribery case: Bansal distances himself from nephew

Distancing himself from his nephew arrested by CBI last night in a case of bribery for allegedly fixing a top level position in Railway Board, Railway Minister P K Bansal today said he had no business links with him and denied any wrongdoing.

In a statement, 64-year-old Bansal, who was made Railway Minister in October last year, claimed he has always observed highest standards of probity in public life and that nobody can influence his decisions.

He also sought an expeditious CBI inquiry into the issue.

US continuing to recover from the worst recession: US

The US is continuing to recover from the worst recession since the Great Depression, the White House said after the latest jobs report revealed that the unemployment rate for the month of April has dropped to 7.5 per cent, the lowest in four years.

“The jobs report demonstrated that we’re continuing to recover from the worst recession since the Great Depression,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters while travelling with US President Barack Obama to Latin America yesterday.

“Encroached land should be freed from China”

Former president APJ Abdul Kalam on Friday asked the government to ensure that land encroached by Chinese troops is freed.

“Indian leadership should ensure the return of Chinese troops from the Indian territory,” Kalam said, referring to recent incursion by Chinese troops in Ladakh.

He said that encroached land should be freed from Chinese occupancy.

Kalam was here to deliver convocation lecture at Saket Post Graduate Degree College.

US tightening visa rules for students

In the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings, the US will tighten oversight to help ensure that foreign students seeking to enter the US have valid student visas, according to various media reports.

Effective immediately border agents at places like the airport or another entry point to the country will verify every international student making sure they have a valid student visa, ABC News reported.

Pakistani officials visit injured prisoner in Chandigarh

Pakistani officials have visited a Chandigarh hospital where a comatose Pakistani prisoner is being treated, said the ministry of external affairs Saturday.

“Pakistani officials had consular access to injured prisoner Sanaullah Ranjay and also met attending Doctor in Chandigarh,” tweeted external affairs ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin.

Sanaullah Ranjay, a Pakistani lodged in Jammu’s Kot Bhalwal Jail, was critically injured after being attacked by an Indian prisoner Friday, prompting Islamabad to demand his immediate release and repatriation.

Scientist says he found meteorite that hit Earth in 1908

A Russian researcher has claimed to have discovered fragments of the largest celestial body to hit the Earth in recorded history – in 1908 -though he has waited for 23 years before going public with the findings.

Three stones found by Andrei Zlobin of the Vernadsky State Geological Museum at the Russian Academy of Sciences in central Siberia may have been part of the so-called Tunguska meteorite that exploded over the area in 1908, he said in a report on Arxiv.org.
