Encroached land should be freed from China: Kalam

Former president APJ Abdul Kalam on Friday asked the government to ensure that land encroached by Chinese troops is freed.

“Indian leadership should ensure the return of Chinese troops from the Indian territory,” Kalam said, referring to recent incursion by Chinese troops in Ladakh.

He said that encroached land should be freed from Chinese occupancy.

Kalam was here to deliver convocation lecture at Saket Post Graduate Degree College.

Delhi student wins third rank in Civil Services Exam

The third rank holder in this year’s Civil Services Examination, Stuti Charan, has done a post-graduate diploma in marketing management from the national capital. She appeared for the exams in Delhi. This was her third attempt.

She has completed BSc from Jodhpur University and PG Diploma in Personnel and Marketing Management from IIPM in New Delhi.

Amongst the top 25 candidates, there are candidates from 12 states, including Delhi, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh.

CBI raids senior Army officer for alleged graft

CBI officials on Friday raided the premises of a senior Army officer after registering a case of corruption against him on the charge of bribery and amassing assets disproportionate to known sources of his income.

“CBI conducted raids at several places of Major General V K Sharma in Udhampur, Pathankote, Delhi and Gurgaon and seized some documents today”, a CBI official said.

Three special teams were formed and sent to different locations to conduct the raids, he said.

Sanaullah Ranjay, a Pakistani national serving a life sentence was attacked in the prison in Jammu, a day after Indian national Sarabjit Singh succumbed to injuries sustained in a brutal assault within a jail in Lahore.

While ‘khap panchayats’ (caste councils) in Haryana continue to frown on inter-caste and sub-caste marriages and punish those who do so, marrying outside one’s caste is ever so profitable in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh – it’ll get couples all of Rs.75,000.

To prompt young men and women to break the caste barrier, the cabinet headed by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has enhanced the inter-caste marriage incentive from Rs.25,000 to Rs.75,000. It’s given to couples where one of the spouses belongs to a Scheduled Caste.

(Siasat News): An incident of theft took place at Hanuman temple situated near bus stand in Shamshabad in the afternoon.

The priest of the temple Shiva Shankar Swamy had lodged a complaint in Shamshabad RGI police that as he had gone to his house in the afternoon because of the severe hot, the robbers must have taken this chance to commit the crime.

When he came back he found the costly Hanuman idol weighing 7 kilos, missing from the temple. A case has been registered and further investigations are on.

Honda to build plant in Mexico

The Mexican unit of Japanese auto giant the Honda Motor Co. announced plans to invest $470 million in the construction of a transmission plant in Celaya, in the central state of Guanajuato.

The president of Honda Mexico, Isamu Yamaki, and Tetsuo Iwaumura, COO of Honda North American regional operations, made an announcement before Mexico’s secretary of the economy, Ildefonso Guajardo, that the new plant joins the others that the company has in this country, the company said in a communique.

Solar plane starts journey across US

The first airplane that can fly both day and night powered exclusively by the sun’s rays has taken off from California in the first stage of an attempt to fly across the US without using any fuel.

The solar-powered plane, dubbed Solar Impulse, set off Friday from San Francisco shortly after 6 a.m. local time (1300 GMT) and was expected to land in Phoenix, Arizona, 19 hours later for the aircraft’s first stop in the first-ever fuel-free transcontinental plane flight.

Two Housing Officers, One SI Caught By ACB

Two housing officers and one police sub-inspector have been caught during Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) raids across the State on Friday.
The ACB identified Rs.5 crore worth illegal assets at the residence of Vinukonda Housing DE Shankar in Guntur district. Shankar possessed 35 acre land, 10 house sites, two residences and two cars. The ACB sleuths have taken Shankar into their custody.

TDP Demands Regularization of Outsourcing Employees

TDP has demanded that all the outsourced employees be regularized as per the government’s assurance.
In a statement here on Friday, party’s official spokesperson Nannuri Narsi Reddy, said instead of fulfilling its promise of regularizing the existing outsourced employees, the government was in fact removing the employees. He said through the GO 1041, the government had removed 7,800 MPDOs working in the agriculture departments. Likewise 1439 contract teachers, 487 contract employees of the housing board and 280 employees of the irrigation department.

Man kills himself in shooting at Texas airport

Local police in Houston, a city in the U.S. state of Texas, confirmed an armed man shot and killed himself at the city’s Bush Intercontinental Airport Thursday afternoon.

The police said that at around 1:35 p.m. local time, Thursday, they were informed of a “discharge of firearm” at Terminal B at the airport. And the shooting took place at the ticketing area of the airport when one armed man pulled out a gun and committed suicide, according to a report aired by the local TV channel abc13.

118 killed, 377 injured in 29 bomb blasts across Pakistan during April

At least 118 people were killed and 377 others got injured in 29 bomb blasts as the militants raised the number of attacks at the political rallies and offices of parties across Pakistan during the month of April, according to official statistics.
Out of the 29 bomb attacks, six were of suicide nature that ripped through different areas of Pakistan, targeting different targets, killed 48 persons and injured 162 others.

Three children killed in wall collapse

Three children were killed in separate wall collapse incidents following heavy rain that also damaged thatched houses affecting 2,000 people in Balasore district, officials said on Saturday.

Sania Sing, 9, and Basanti Sing, 8, were killed when a mud wall collapsed on them at Benapada village on Friday evening.

In another wall collapse incident, Jitendra Das, 9, died and five others were injured in Thalsadha village.

Besides, about 2,000 people were affected as many thatched houses were damaged during rain in seven revenue villages in the district, they said.
