Ranbir Kapoor detained, fined for customs violation

Ranbir Kapoor was today detained and fined about Rs 60,000 on undeclared branded personal goods he was carrying at the Mumbai International airport, a customs official said.

The 30-year-old actor was later let off.

Kapoor, who landed at the Chhatrapati Shivaji international airport on a British Airways flight from London at about 12.30 AM today, was walking away with branded goods in his luggage that required to be declared before the authorities.

7-year-old raped, accused arrested

A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man in Bihar’s Nawada district, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place at Nepura village on Saturday night when the man lured the girl to the fields with a chocolate and raped her, Superintendent of Police Manavjeet Singh Dhillon said.

On hearing the child’s cries for help, local people rushed to the spot and took her to the Sadar hospital for treatment where the attending doctors referred her to the Patna Medical College and Hospital in view of her condition, he said.

Three killed in car-truck collision in Varansi

Three persons, including a PWD engineer, were killed when their car collided with a truck here on Sunday when they were returning from a marriage function.

27-year-old Umesh, a junior engineer with Public Works Department, and two others — Pratap (55) and Munir (59) — were killed in the road accident in the wee hours today, a police official said.

Pakistan govt killed Sarabjit, alleges his former jail inmate

It is not destiny, but the Pakistan government which claimed the life of Sarabjit Singh, according to a resident of Ahmednagar, who spent time with him in Lahore jail, and was released last year.

“Sarabjit was homesick. He longed to return to India,” Bhanudas Karale, who was released from Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore on June 15 last year, said.

Karale was arrested for accidentally straying into the Pakistani territory on August 28, 2010.

Builder shot at in Thane

A builder from the powerloom town of Bhiwandi in the district was shot at and injured by unidentified assailants, police said on Sunday.

Builder Atmaram Gulagi was attacked near his house at around 10.30 PM yesterday by men, who came on a bike and fired at him from point blank range, assistant police inspector D G Gautam said.

The builder was later admitted to a hospital.

Police have launched a manhunt for the shooters.

An offence under relevant sections of IPC and Arms Act has been registered, police added.

Acid attack victim critical

The condition of Preeti Rathi, the nursing graduate from New Delhi who became the victim of an acid attack here four days ago, continues to be critical, her father said Sunday.

“She continues to remain in the ICU. There is no improvement in her condition so far,” said a worried Amar Singh Rathi, her father, who is camping in Mumbai’s Masina Hospital, Byculla, to take care of his 25-year-old daughter.
