Pakistan envoy to visit ‘critical’ prisoner in Chandigarh

The high commissioner of Pakistan will visit Chandigarh Monday to see a Pakistani prisoner admitted in a critical condition at the PGIMER here, a diplomat said, even as his condition continued to be critical.

“The high commissioner (Salman Bashir) will be visiting Chandigarh tomorrow (Monday) to see Sanaullah (Ranjay), who is under medical treatment at PGIMER,” Pakistani diplomat Manzoor Ali Memon, one of the three diplomats granted consular access to the prisoner, said Sunday.

Israeli warplanes strike Syria, target Iranian missiles

Israeli warplanes struck areas in and around the Syrian capital on Sunday, setting off a series of explosions as they targeted a shipment of highly accurate, Iranian-made guided missiles believed to be on their way to Lebanon’s Hezbollah militant group, officials and activists said.

The attack, the second in three days, signaled a sharp escalation of Israel’s involvement in Syria’s bloody civil war. Syrian state media reported that Israeli missiles struck a military and scientific research center near Damascus and caused casualties.

China-India face-off ends as armies withdraw from Ladakh

Chinese and Indian armies have withdrawn simultaneously from face-off point at Daulat Beg Oldi sector in Ladakh, official sources said on Sunday evening.

According to reports, the agreement between the two sides was reached following a high-level meeting. Both countries decided to end the deadlock at 7.30pm, PTI quoted official sources, as saying.

Earlier reports said that Chinese troops have refused to budge from the Indian territory occupied by them. Chinese troops reportedly asked the Indian forces to pull back first in the Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO) sector of Ladakh.

Kadapa Spl Collector Dies in Road Mishap

Kadapa district Special Collector Gopinath died in an accident occurred at Mamandur near Renigunta here on Sunday.

Central Summons to CM Normal: Panabaka

Union Minister Panabaka Laxmi has said it was common to summon the Chief Minister to Delhi as their party was a national one.

Temperatures Rise Up In State

Temperatures in the State were rising aggressively day after day. Day temperature was increased by three degrees C on Sunday leaving the people restless.

Wife Not Invited For Ntr Statue Installation

Nandamuri Lakshmi Parvati, wife of late N T Rama Rao, said she had not received invitation for the unveiling of her husband’s statue on the Parliament premises.

BJP takes out maha rally against scams-hit UPA Govt

NTR’s statue: TDP MPs to lodge protest with Speaker

Denial of invitation for the unveiling of statue of Telugu Desam Party founder NT Rama Rao in the Parliament premises has triggered strong protest both from the TDP and his widow Lakshmi Parvathi.

The bronze statue of NTR will be unveiled in the Parliament premises by Speaker Meira Kumar on May 7 at 10.30 AM. However, sources say that official invitations were sent only to Nandamuri family members although Union Minister D Purandeswari personally invited TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu for the event.

Ramchandraiah proposes Chiru’s candidature for CM’s post

Endowments Minister C Ramchandraiah trigged another controversy into the Congress party by proposing the candidature of Union Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi for the Chief Minister’s post.

Addressing a meeting at Bhimli beach. Ramchandraiah said that while Pradesh Congress Committee president Botsa Satyanarayana could lead the party, Chiranjeevi was the best candidate for the Chief Minister’s post. Both Botsa and Chiranjeevi were present on the stage when he made these remarks and they greeted his proposal with a smile.

Congress will get 120 seats in Karnataka: Kotla

Union Minister of State for Railway Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy predicted that the Congress party would win 120 seats in the Karnataka assembly.

Talking to reporters at R&B Guest House here, Kotla said that the people of Karnataka have voted for a positive change in the State and they were fed up with the “misrule” of Bharatiya Janata Party. He hoped that the Congress party would win more than 120 seats to form the government.

Kotla also expressed confidence that water would be brought from Tungabhadra to the State by laying a direct pipe line for the purpose of drinking. (INN)

No contract workers system after T formation: Harish

Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA T Harish Rao on Sunday announced that his party would scrap the system of contract workers after the formation of Telangana State.

Addressing the third anniversary of Medical and Health Contract Workers’ Union at Telangana Bhavan here, Harish Rao said that the contract system was detrimental to the interest of workers. Therefore, instead of hiring workers on contract basis, the government should hire their services on regular basis. He assured that the contract system would be completely disbanded soon after the formation of separate Telangana State.

Jagan will get bail on Monday: YSRCP

The YSR Congress party has expressed confidence that its president and Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will get bail on Monday.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, YSRCP leader Jupudi Prabhakara Rao said that Jagan might get bail on Monday as he has been languishing in prison for the last 11 months. He said in most of the cases, an accused gets bail after a maximum of 90 days. However, he said that Jagan’s release on bail has been delayed due to several factors.

Hundreds of voters boycott polling in Karnataka

Hundreds of voters in many constituencies across Karnataka Sunday boycotted the assembly poll in protest against the “apathy” of the political parties and the administration, which, they alleged, had let them down.

Election Commission sources here admitted that angry voters in six of the eight assembly segments across Haveri district, about 330 km from Bangalore, stayed away en masse from polling stations and staged sit-in demos against parties and officials for not providing them basic facilities such as drinking water and power at a time they were reeling under drought.

Brisk polling in Karnataka, 60 percent turnout till 5 p.m.

Over 60 percent of the 43.6 million voters cast their ballots till 5 p.m. in the 14th Karnataka assembly polls Sunday to decide the fate of the first BJP government in south India, an official said here.

In Bangalore, which has earned notoriety for low polling, the balloting pace remained slow with only around 45 percent of the city’s seven million voters exercising their franchise, an election official told reporters.

Balloting, which began across the state at 7 a.m., ends at 6 p.m.

Nine NATO soldiers killed in Afghanistan

The Taliban-linked militancy and violent incidents claimed lives of nine soldeisr of NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Saturday, turning the day the bloodiest one since this January for the alliance in the conflict-ridden country, ISAF confirmed in a statement.

According to the military alliance fighting terrorism in Afghanistan, the deadly fighting happened in the restive southern region where Taliban militants are more active than in other areas, Xinhua reported Sunday.

Pakistani prisoner continues to be critically sick

Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Ranjay continued to be “critically sick” and in “deep coma”, a statement issued by the Pakistan High Commission said Sunday.

Pakistani diplomats Sunday visited PGIMER (Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) where the comatose Pakistani prisoner is being treated after being attacked by a prisoner in a Jammu jail Friday.

“The officials were informed by a medical board that Sanaullah’s neurological status continues to be same as Saturday in deep coma and is on a ventilator. Hence he continues to be critically sick,” the statement said.

Missing Delhi girl, youth found dead in Yamuna

Missing since five days from their houses a minor girl and a youth were found dead with their hands tied in the Yamuna river here, police said Sunday. A suicide note was recovered from the girl’s house.

They were said to be brother and sister but their relationship was not liked by their family members, police said.
