Dec 16 gang-rape verdict expected by May end: Delhi Police Chief

With the trial in the Delhi gang-rape case “almost 90 percent complete”, the court verdict is expected to come by the end of May, Delhi Police commissioner Neeraj Kumar said.

In an interview to a news channel, Neeraj Kumar said: “The trial of December 16 (2012) case is almost 90 per cent complete and judgment is expected by the end of May.”

On Dec 16, 2012, a 23-year-old woman was brutally raped and tortured by a gang of six people on a moving bus. She died a few days later of grievous injuries.

Indo-China border incursion row ends; troops withdrawn

While ending a deadlock between Indo-China border incursion row, Chinese and Indian armies on Sunday agreed to withdraw their troops simultaneously from face-off point at Daulat Beg Oldi sector in Ladakh, as per official sources.

Reports suggest that the agreement between the countries was reached after tough negotiations at the higher level from both sides.

However, the official sources have also confirmed that an agreement was reached late today for both sides to pull back their troops simultaneously from the face off point, which was completed at 1930 hours.

Pak hardliner party issues fatwa against voting for ”haram” Imran Khan

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman has issued a decree (fatwa) against Imran Khan, saying that vote to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief is ”haram”. The Daily Times quoted Fazl as saying that Imran was an agent of ”Ahmedi” and Zionist lobbies. Fazl also reminded that Imran gave a fake decree with the reference of Maulana Saeed Ahmad Usmani, who had passed away in 2010. A few days ago, the JUI-F leader had accused Imran of being supported and funded by Ahmedis, saying that the PTI chief had promised to benefit the lobby if voted to power.

Rajasthan woman burnt alive after resisting rape bid

A 30-year old married woman was burnt alive for resisting rape in Rajasthan’s Hanumgarh district Saturday, police said.

According to police, the incident took place early Saturday at the district’s Nohar area, some 500 km from Jaipur.

Circle Officer Kishori Lal said that the woman was sleeping along with her four-year daughter, while her husband was working in the farm when the accused, identified as Jitendra Kumar alias Jitu, sneaked into her house and tried to rape her.

ADB to provide USD 6 billion to India over next 3 years

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) today said it will provide about USD 6 billion loan to India over the next three years, even as the multilateral lender stated it is facing the challenge of raising resources.

“Our idea is ADB will maintain its lending level to India, approximately USD 2 billion over next three years.

“We are now working on the country partnership strategy and we are planning to maintain the level of lending to India,” ADB President Takehiko Nakao said at the concluding day of the 46th annual meeting of the funding agency here.

India is the biggest borrower of ADB.

Indonesian Groups Call for Jihad Against Burma, to Dismay of Burmese Muslims

In the lead up to the foiled terrorist attack on the Burmese Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesian Islamic terrorist leader Abu Bakar Bashir warned of launching jihad—holy war—against Burma’s government over its treatment of Muslim minorities.

On Friday, hundreds of protestors belonging to radical Islamic groups also rallied at the embassy, with some calling for jihad against Burma.

Burmese Muslim groups said in a reaction that they “totally reject” calls for the use violence on their behalf, adding that terrorist actions would not help Burmese Muslims in any way.

UN chief voices concern at Israeli air strikes on Syria

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has voiced “grave concern” at reported Israeli air strikes on Syria, and called on all sides to “exercise maximum calm and restraint”.

“The secretary-general expresses grave concern over reports of air strikes in Syria by the Israeli Air Force,” Xinhua quoted a statement issued by Ban’s spokesman as saying.

“At this time, the United Nations does not have details of the reported incidents,” the statement said.

“Nor is the United Nations in a position to independently verify what has occurred,” it added.

Big companies willing to hire Nitaqat-hit Indians

Major Saudi companies have approached the Indian Embassy in Riyadh showing interest to recruit workers from the country affected by the Nitaqat crackdown, an embassy statement said on Saturday.

The embassy urged all affected Indian workers to utilize the three-month grace period announced by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to correct their legal status.

AP govt committed to Polavaram project:CM

TRS to protest allotment of iron ore mines to VSP

Telangana Rashtra Samithi will stage protests against allotment of iron ore mines in the Telangana region to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), located in coastal Andhra Pradesh. TRS will organise padayatras and other protests over allotment of the mines by Andhra Pradesh government to the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) enterprise, party leader N Narasimha Reddy said. Rocket attacks kill 20 in Syria

At least 20 people, including women and children, were killed Sunday when armed rebels shelled two towns in Syria’s northern province of Aleppo, a radio report said.

The victims were killed when rebels fired Grad missiles and artillery shells at the pro-government towns of Nubbul and al-Zahara in the countryside of Aleppo, Xinhua reported.

Both towns are inhabited by people from the Shiite minority.

The attack came in the wake of some rebels’ reports that Syrian troops backed by paramilitary groups had killed tens of Sunni people during operations in the coastal city of Banyas.

Pak High Commissioner to visit Sanaullah today

Pakistan High Commissioner Salman Bashir will visit critically injured Pakistan prisoner Sanaullah Ranjay on Monday. This was confirmed by the Pakistan High Commission on Sunday.

Sanaullah is still in “deep coma”.

Bashir’s trip was planned after the Ministry of External Affairs granted permission to the Pakistan High Commissioner to visit Chandigarh and meet Sanuallah, who was assaulted by other inmates inside a Jammu jail last week.

Model-actress Lara Dutta, who is on a vacation with her family in Madrid, says her one-year-old daughter is the ‘boss’ when it comes to deciding what to eat.

British MP denies rape allegations

Nigel Evans, deputy speaker of the House of Commons, has denied as “completely false” allegations against him, after he was arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault, BBC reported.

The 55-year-old Tory MP for Ribble Valley in Lancashire has been questioned about alleged attacks on two men.

In a statement to journalists, Evans expressed his “sense of incredulity at these events”.

His solicitor said he did not intend to quit as deputy speaker or as an MP.

The offences were alleged to have taken place between July 2009 and March 2013 in Pendleton, Lancashire, police said.
