Boston bombings suspect moved to prison from hospital

The lone surviving Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who was injured in a deadly shootout with police here last week, was on Friday transferred from a hospital to a prison medical centre in Massachusetts.

The suspect has been transferred from the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center to Federal Medical Center Devens, a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility in north-central Massachusetts that holds detainees who need medical care, US Marshals Service spokesman Drew Wade was quoted as saying by CNN.

The Patna High Court today set aside a plea accusing self-styled godman Nirmal Baba of cheating and forgery.

Justice AK Singh set aside the petition of Rakesh Kumar Singh of Araria alleging that Baba had taken Rs1000 from him in the name of making him popular and lucky. But nothing of the sort happened despite paying the money, he alleged.

An Araria district court had earlier issued a non-bailable warrant against Nirmal Baba in the case. The Patna High Court had granted stay on the Araria district court order.

Sarabjit Singh in coma, says Pak doctors

The death row convict Sarabjit Singh, who was attacked by two Indian prisoners in a Lahore jail, is in “coma”, Pakistani doctors told Indian officials today.

“Doctors attending to Sarabjit Singh informed the Indian officials that he is in coma on ventilator and receiving IV drip,” External Affairs Ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin said.

“The officials of India’s High Commission in Islamabad obtain access to Sarabjit in the ICU of Jinnah hospital, Lahore at 2:00 am,” he said.

Earlier, India has sought consular access to the 49-year-old Sarabjit.

Police did not respond to helpline calls on 5-year-old’s rape: Delhi CM

It was a desperate call for help on the women’s helpline 181 from the family of the raped five-year-old girl when the child went missing, but the Delhi Police failed to take action, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said Friday.

The Delhi government is to take up the matter with the union home ministry, sources in the government said.

Speaking to IANS, Dikshit said: “There was a report which came from our 181 women’s helpline on the five-year-old child who was raped. The 181 personnel kept speaking to the police, but they did not take any action.”

Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh had spoken of a threat to his life from a fellow prisoner after the execution in India of Afzal Guru but Pakistani authorities failed to provide him adequate security, his lawyer said today. “Sarabjit told me and a CID (Crime Investigation Department) official after the execution of Afzal Guru that a prisoner in Kot Lakhpat Jail had issued death threats. A six-year-old girl was attacked in a public toilet in south-east Delhi today and police were awaiting a medical report to ascertain whether she was sexually assaulted. 2007 Ludhiana blast accused found dead in prison

An activist of banned terrorist-outfit Babbar Khalsa International, facing trial in 2007 Shingar Cinema blast case, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in high security Nabha jail here. Sandeep Singh alias Harry (35) was found dead in the prison with Jail officials claiming that he died due to heart attack. Eight-year-old repeatedly raped by father

In yet another shocking incident of rape in the national capital, a man has been arrested for repeatedly raping his eight-year-old daughter, police said Friday.

According to police, the accused, 46, works as a welder and lived in West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area.

He had been sexually and physically assaulting his daughter for over two months. She was also denied regular meals during this period.

The incident came in to light Thursday when the girl told her neighbour about the sexual assault, who informed police. The accused was arrested.

Parliamentary panel briefed on Chinese incursion

With opposition members demanding details about the stand-off between Indian and Chinese troops in Ladakh, Defence Secretary Shashi Kant Sharma and defence ministry officials appeared before a parliamentary committee Friday to give details of the incursion.

The parliamentary panel was told that Chinese troops had intruded 19 km inside Indian territory in Depsang in Ladakh region and pitched tents. The officials also told the panel that efforts are underway to ensure that the status quo is maintained, sources said.
