BJP alleges assault on Sarabjit ”a planned move”

General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajiv Pratap Rudy on Saturday said that the assault on Sarabjit Singh was a planned move, and similar to the earlier attack on Chamel Singh, who was killed. Rudy recalled that Chamel Singh was similarly attacked in a Lahore jail, and when his body was returned, some parts of his body was missing. Rudy said:” Till date we do not know the exact reason for his death.

Musharraf facing threat of terrorist attacks during court appearances, warns ministry

Pakistan’s former president Pervez Musharraf is facing threat of a terrorist attack during his appearances in courts.

The interior ministry dispatched a letter to the law ministry, underlining threats Musharraf is facing from various terrorist outfits.

According to the News, in the letter the ministry also said that an explosive-laden vehicle was found near Musharraf’s farmhouse, which has been declared a sub-jail.

The interior ministry said that Musharraf’s movement provided a golden opportunity to terrorist to go ahead with their plans.

PCB considering including Younis Khan among Champions Trophy probables

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly been considering a proposal to include veteran middle-order batsman Younis Khan in the list of 30 probables for the ICC Champions Trophy, from which a 15-member Pakistan squad will be announced by the end of this month. Sarabjit’s sister takes ill in Amritsar

Dalbir Kaur, sister of Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh, was Saturday advised rest by a doctor here after she complained of uneasiness and chest pain.

“She has high blood pressure (110/160), chest pain and breathing difficulty. I have advised her rest. We are monitoring her health,” the doctor treating her said.

One injured in gas leak

In an incident occurred in Chaderghat police station limits, a man got seriously injured in gas leak in a house near Azampura ground. Pakistani military protests treatment meted out to Musharraf

A group of Pakistan’s military officers have protested, before a parliamentary panel, the treatment being meted out to former president Pervez Musharraf, a media report said Saturday.

The delegation of 75 officers from Command and Staff College, Quetta, led by Col. Saqib Ali Cheema, met the chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production Mushahid Hussain Sayed at the parliament house to express concern over Musharraf’s arrest, reported Dawn.

Coalgate: Fresh case against Chhattisgarh-based firm

CBI has registered a fresh case against a Chhattisgarh-based company in connection with alleged misrepresentation of facts while applying for coal blocks and carried out searches at 11 locations across the country.

CBI sources said here today that Pushp Steel and Mines Ltd and several of its directors including Atul Jain and Sanjay Jain have been named in the new FIR taking the total number of cases in the coal allocation to 11.

Pakistan blast kills 11

Eleven people were killed and over 40 injured when a bomb went off near an election office of the Awami National Party here on Saturday, the latest in a string of attacks by the Taliban on secular political parties ahead of Pakistan’s general election.

The bomb exploded just as senior ANP leader Bashir Jan arrived in Mominabad area to address an election meeting.

Jan, who has been targeted by the Taliban several times, escaped unhurt though his car was damaged by the blast.

Sarabjit still in deep coma, no surgery till condition stabilises

Indian national Sarabjit Singh was in a “deep coma” and put on ventilator support after being assaulted by a group of prisoners in a Pakistani jail, with doctors today saying that they will not be able to perform surgery on him till his condition stabilises.

Sarabjit, 49, was in an Intensive Care Unit of the state-run Jinnah Hospital in Lahore, where he was admitted yesterday after being brutally beaten by at least six other prisoners within his barrack at the Kot Lakhpat Jail.

Top US Air Force official to step down

Secretary of the US Air Force Michael Donley is to step down and return to private life, US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel announced in a statement.

Hagel said that Donley has been “an invaluable adviser during my first two months as secretary of defense and has been an outstanding leader of the air force for nearly five years”, reported Xinhua.

He added that Donley served during “a challenging time for the air force” and “helped instil a culture of responsibility, initiative, and professionalism to the service”.

Obama vows probe into use of chemical weapons in Syria

US President Barack Obama promised Friday an in-depth investigation into the possible use of chemical weapons in Syria, and said if that proves to be the case, it will change his “calculus” about how to deal with the crisis in the Middle Eastern country.

Use of chemical weapons in Syria would bring “increased urgency to what is already a significant security problem and humanitarian problem in the region”, Obama said in a brief joint press appearance with visiting Jordanian King Abdullah II.

Bangladesh building collapse toll rises to 328

The toll in the building that collapsed Wednesday in the outskirts of this Bangladesh capital rose to 328 Saturday, media reports said.

Fourteen people were pulled out alive and 13 bodies were recovered from beneath the rubble of the eight-storeyed building Saturday morning, raising the toll to 328, reported the Daily Star.

The building, “Rana Plaza”, collapsed around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday and since then rescuers have been trying to extricate those still buried under the debris.

With Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh in coma at a Lahore hospital after being fatally assaulted by fellow prisoners, his family members in Punjab said Saturday that they wanted to leave for Pakistan immediately to take care of him.

Sarabjit’s sister Dalbir Kaur, who has been spearheading the campaign for his release from Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat prison, and his wife and two daughters, arrived here Saturday morning from their hometown Bhikhiwind, 50 km from here.

Medical board formed to treat Sarabjit

A medical board has been constituted to treat Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh who was admitted to the ICU of Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital after a murderous attack on him by fellow prisoners in Kot Lakhpat jail on Friday, a media report said.

“A high-powered medical board has been constituted to treat the patient,” Allama Iqbal Medical College Principal Mahmood Shaukat told Dawn.

The board includes neurosurgeon Anjum Habib Vohra, neuro-physician Naeem Kasuri and Zafar Chaudhry.

Shaukat said Sarabjit’s condition was critical.

Grand mufti: Beware of fake relics of Prophet (SAWS)

Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh has warned museums, individuals and other bodies against promoting fake relics of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

“The Prophet (pbuh) died more than 1,400 years ago and there is no solid evidence that the so-called relics belonged to him,” he said.

Al-Asheikh warned against accusing people of bribery and promoting rumors about them. “Accusing people without proof is impermissible,” he said.
