Three arrested for sexual harassment of colleague

Jammu and Kashmir police has arrested three employees of the state Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution department for the alleged sexual harassment of a female colleague.

Three persons – Ajaz Ahmad, Waseem Mukhtar and Abdul Qayoom – have been taken into custody under section 294 of the RPC, after the female employee filed a complaint in Shaheed Gunj police station here, a police spokesperson said today.

The female staffer on Monday lodged the complaint accusing five persons of sexual harassment, police said, adding, the hunt is on to apprehend the other two accused.

PM to Sinha: All 2G records already with JPC

Two days after BJP leader Yashwant Sinha asked him to depose before the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probing the allotment of 2G spectrum, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Wednesday said all records in the case had already been placed before the panel.

“You are aware that all pertinent records and documents available with the government have already been placed at the disposal of the JPC,” the prime minister said in his reply to Sinha.

“I have said from the beginning that neither the government nor I have anything to hide in this matter,” he said.

SC questions states on delay in pan masala ban

The Supreme Court Wednesday directed 23 states and five union territories to file status report on the implementation of the notification issued by them banning the sale of gutka and pan masala containing tobacco or nicotine.

The apex court bench of Justice G.S. Singhvi an Justice Kurien Joseph also directed the remaining states and union territories to explain the reasons why they had not imposed the ban and the time needed to do so.

Class nine student commits suicide in Delhi

A class nine student committed suicide by hanging herself at her house here Tuesday evening, police said. She had fared poorly in her annual exams.

“Pinky, 14, was spotted by her mother, hanging from a ceiling fan at her house at Narela area in north Delhi,” said a police officer.

No suicide note was found. Her parents told police that she was depressed over her exam results since Saturday.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem, said an officer.

Nitaqat effect: Ravi to visit Saudi Arabia

Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi will visit Saudi Arbia to convey India’s apprehension about possible job losses to Indians due to implementation of a new labour law — “Nitaqat” in the Gulf nation that seeks to reserve 10 per cent jobs for locals.

The decision on Ravi’s visit to the country was taken after he had discussed the issue with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh yesterday.

The family of the seven-year-old girl who had strayed into Pakistan and the locals in her village have thanked border officials in both India and the neighbouring country for the safe return of the child.

Autopsy report confirms rape, murder of 9-year-old girl

Postmortem report of the nine-year-old girl found dead under mysterious circumstances in Durg district of Chhattisgarh yesterday, has confirmed that she was raped before being murdered, police said today.

“The autopsy report of the girl has confirmed that she was raped, following which police have added sections 376 (rape) and 302 (murder) in the FIR registered against unidentified persons in this regard,” a senior police officer told PTI today.

Kidnapped girl rescued, points finger at UP minister

A 16-year-old-girl, who was rescued from her kidnappers today, alleged that she was held captive at the residence of a minister in the Akhilesh Yadav government.

The girl was rescued this morning near the ITI crossing here and a kidnapper identified as Avnish arrested, police said.

According to a complaint lodged with Nawabganj police, the girl was kidnapped on April 1 by five people, including Avnish and another person who has been identified as Sushil.

1984 anti-Sikh riots case: Court reserves judgement

A Delhi court today reserved its judgement in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case in which Congress leader Sajjan Kumar and five others are accused.

District Judge J R Aryan fixed the matter for April 16 for clarification, if any, from CBI on the six accused persons after they concluded the final arguments in the case.

“Judgement is reserved. To come up for clarification, if any, on April 16,” the judge said.

Concluding the final arguments, CBI prosecutor D P Singh said that the prosecution has limited itself to what each of the witnesses had seen at the time of the incident.

Woman’s stalker guns down her father

A college professor was shot dead early Wednesday by a man who stalked his daughter in Maharashtra, police said. The accused was arrested.

Anwar Khan killed Yogesh Dakhore and critically injured his wife Kusum around 3 a.m. in Nagpur’s Hudkeshwar area, police said.

Khan used to stalk Dakhore’s 24-year-old daughter, an M. Tech student, and wanted her to accept his proposal for friendship, police said.

According to Dakhore’s neighbours, his daughter along with her two elder brothers registered a police complaint in February about harassment by Khan.

BJP accuses UPA government of indecisiveness

The BJP Wednesday accused the UPA government of indecisiveness, saying it was due to two centres of power in the Congress, leading the alliance.

Parties demand MPSC reschdule exams after virus attack

The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) came under fire from political parties for “carelessness”, due to which it lost valuable computerised data of around 300,000 candidates who were to appear for the MPSC exams.

A virus reportedly attacked the MPSC’s main server and wiped out all data of candidates, barely four days before the examinations scheduled for Sunday.

The MPSC has now directed students to resubmit the data by Thursday evening. Examination hall tickets would be issued Friday.

“Tum hi ho”, the title track from Mohit Suri’s forthcoming romance-action drama “Aashiqui 2”, is a hit on YouTube and it has crossed over 1,852,947 hits within 10 days of its launch.

The promo of the song was released March 23 under the label T-Series.

A remake of Mahesh Bhatt’s 1990 blockbuster “Aashiqui”, the coming film is also produced by his banner Vishesh Films.

“Tum hi ho”, a romantic number, features Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor.

Four sisters suffer acid attack in UP town

Four sisters were sprayed with acid by bike-borne assailants when the girls were returning home from a coaching centre in Uttar Pradesh, police said Wednesday.

Kanwar Jahan, Aisha, Sonam and Isha were attacked late Tuesday in the Kandhla area of Shamli town, 525 km from here, police said.

Superintendent of Police Abdul Hamid told IANS that the assailants were wearing helmets and hence could not be identified.

Kanwar Jahan was critically injured while her sisters received minor acid burns, police said.

Foreign tourist flow in India rising, says Chiranjeevi

Dismissing media reports of decline in foreign tourist arrivals following the Delhi gang-rape and recent incidents with foreign tourists, Minister of State for Tourism K. Chiranjeevi Wednesday said the figures were “positive”.

“The growth of foreign tourists in January and February (2013) has been positive and not negative, as reported by the media,” Chiranjeevi said here, addressing an audience at a tourism-related public function here.

Ameesha feels actors should innovate to avoid stagnation

Actress Ameesha Patel, who is ready with her first production “Desi Magic,” says change is important for an actor or else they may stagnate.
