State Hajj Committee receives 16972 applications for Hajj-2013

Andhra Pradesh State Hajj Committee has received 16972 applications from Hajj aspirants of the state for Hajj 2013. Of the total applications 8700 are of males, 8272 are of females and 20 are of children. Hyderabad topped with 8345 applications followed by Kurnool with 960 applications and Nizamabad with 844 applications. Only 7 applications were received from Vizianagaram, while no application has been received from Srikakulam district.

Andhra opposition to go ahead with April 9 shutdown

Opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh have decided to go ahead with their statewide shutdown on April 9 despite the government providing some relief from the steep hike in electricity tariff announced last week.

Bowing to pressure from the opposition and also a section of its own leaders, the Congress government exempted consumers using 200 units or less a month from the tariff hike.

However, the latest relief from the government has failed to pacify the opposition parties, who are determined to go ahead with the shutdown.

EAMCET on May 10, 1-month coaching programme

Big animals looted near Changicherla slaughter house

It seems that the communal forces have started implementing their evil designs and communal conspiracies. In the name of cow slaughter, looting of big animals has started. In one such incident, miscreants seized a vehicle Changicherla slaughter house carrying big animals coming from Shadnagar near. The carriage had 13 big animals (Bullocks) one Jersey cow. The vehicle belonged to Mr. Zamarrud Khan.

International Seminar on Distance Education in Urdu University today

Directorate of Distance Education of Maulana Azad National Urdu University is conducting a three day international seminar today at 10:30 am in collaboration with Indian Distance Education Association.

Communist leader Mr. Nusrath Mohiuddin passed away

Eldest son of revolutionary poet and communist leader late Makhdoom Mohiuddin, Mr. Nusrath Mohiuddin passed away yesterday afternoon after a massive heart attack.

Mr. Nusrath Mohiuddin was one of the Urdu lovers from the Deccan. He used to be on the forefronts of the movements for Urdu on account of his association with Anjuman-e-Taraqui-e-Urdu, progressive writers Association, INSAF organization, an outfit of CPI. He was the member of State CPI and the General Secretary of INSAF organization.

“Heritage of Urdu Caravan” arrives in Hyderabad

The second caravan of Urdu Heritage under the stewardship of Mr. Justice Markenday Katju arrived in Hyderabad yesterday. This caravan has been organized for the promotion of Urdu in this country and also exert pressure on the state governments to take steps for the promotion of Urdu.

Teacher arrested for raping 16-year-old girl

A class X student was allegedly raped by her tuition teacher at his home, prompting her to reportedly attempt suicide by consuming acid on Thursday, police said.

The 16-year-old girl is said to be in critical condition, while the accused Prem Prakash (25) has been arrested, police said.

The victim used to go to the teacher’s home for tuition every day, they said.

US astronaut Sunita Williams arrived at her native village of Jhulasan, in North Gujarat’s Mehsana district to a rousing welcome.

Building collapse in Thane 25 dead, 55 injured

The death toll in an under-construction building collapse in Shil Phata area of Thane on Thursday evening has risen to at least 25.

Over 55 were injured when the seven-storied under-construction building collapsed.

According to reports, a case has been registered against the builder, contractor and supervisor of the building.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will visit the collapse site later on Friday.

North Korea Moves Missile, Could Be Preparing a Test

U.S. officials have identified the missile as a mobile-launched Musudan missile estimated to have a range of between 1,800 and 2,500 miles that could put U.S. military bases in Okinawa and Guam within its range.

The officials said that, two days ago surveillance satellites detected the movement by train of a Musudan mobile launcher as well as fuel and equipment needed for a missile launch.

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar says although his upcoming gangster film Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Again is inspired by some real-life incidents, the story remains fictional.

“I am not playing a real-life character. There are some areas where we have taken some real incidents from different places and put them together and the rest of the story is fictional,” Akshay told reporters here.

He said their film is a continuation from Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, the first part of the sequel to the superhit 2010 film which had starred Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi.

Fans blame Telugu star for their drinking problem; move SHRC

The Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC) today called for a report from the state police after two youths, fans of Telugu film superstar Mahesh Babu sought action against him over his advertisement promoting a liquor brand. Two master degree students T Satish Kumar and B Amru Naik, from Nalgonda district, filed a petition before the APSHRC here stating that they are fans of Mahesh Babu, and alleged after seeing the actor featuring in an advertisement endorsing a liquor brand, they too started consuming alcohol and got addicted to drinks.

AP: Fake currency worth Rs 6 lakh seized, two arrested

Police today arrested two persons from Secunderabad here and recovered fake currency having face value of Rs 5.9 lakh from them. Commissioner’s Task Force (Central Zone) nabbed Mohammed Arif and Inam-ul-haq, who had allegedly procured the currency — in denomination of 1,000 and 500 — from West Bengal, and were going to circulate it in Hyderabad, police said. Additional Deputy Commissioner P Rameshaiah said acting on a tip-off, Inam-ul-Haq was arrested at Secunderabad Railway Station after he got down from a train from Malda.

AP govt to cushion domestic consumers from power tariff hike

Facing heat from the opposition and a section of ruling Congress, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy tonight announced that the state would bear an additional subsidy burden of Rs 830 crore to ease the burden on domestic power consumers. AP Electricity Regulatory Commission announced a new power tariff order for FY 2013-14 last week allowing the power distribution companies to levy additional tariff of Rs 6,173 crore on consumers from April 1.

10 dead, over 55 injured in building collapse in Thane

At least 10 people, including a pregnant woman, were killed and over 55 injured when a seven-storied under-construction building collapsed in Shil Phata area of the city this evening, Civic Disaster Control officials said. The pregnant woman, identified as Shakila Imran Siddiqui, was brought to CSM Hospital with foetus hanging out from her abdomen, Thane civic officials said. The remaining victims are yet to be identified, they said. The building collapsed at around 6:30 PM, the officials said, adding, the injured were rushed to various hospitals.

Man arrested for raping his 16-year-old daughter for 3 years

A local businessman was on Thursday arrested for allegedly raping his 16-year-old daughter for over a period of three years, police said.

The case was registered at Sushant Lok police station in Gurgaon based on the complaint filed by the victim who alleged that her father, Anil Kumar, repeatedly raped her during last three years, ACP, DLF, Bhupinder Singh told PTI.

The girl, a class XII student, reportedly told about her ordeal to her school teacher, who encouraged her to register the case, the ACP said.
