Get Aadhaar to obtain PAN card now

The Unique Identification (UID) Aadhaar number will soon be a “valid” proof of identity and address to obtain a PAN card.

A proposal for inclusion of Aadhaar in the existing list of valid proof of identification and proof of address for allotment of PAN was sent to the Finance Ministry by the Unique Identification Authority of India sometime back.

The Ministry has decided to notify rules in this regard.

It is aimed at curbing the menace of fake or duplicate PAN cards which are allotted by I-T department to taxpayers.

Woman doctor held for selling newborn in Russia

A woman doctor at a maternity clinic in Russia was detained by police when he tried to sell a newborn baby for one million rubles (around $32,000), police said.

The incident took place in the southern city of Vladikavkaz.

The woman was caught red-handed as she accepted the first half of the sum, 500,000 rubles from police who posed as buyers. The deal came a few days after the baby was born.

Musharraf’s nomination papers rejected for second

Pervez Musharraf’s nomination papers for a parliamentary constituency in Pakistan’s port city of Karachi were rejected today, two days after his candidature was disallowed in another seat in Punjab province.

Election officials rejected the former military ruler’s papers for parliamentary constituency number 250 in Karachi. Jamaat-e-Islami leader Niyamatullah Khan, who intends to contest the May 11 polls from the same constituency, had yesterday objected to Musharraf’s candidature on the ground that he had twice violated and subverted the Constitution.

MBA, B.Ed entrance tests: last date tomorrow

The last date to fill application form online for MBA entrance is April 8. Exam is scheduled on May 17. EdCET exam for admission into B.Ed is scheduled on June 3. The form for the same is also to be submitted online. The last date is April 23.

HC sets man free in dowry death case

The Delhi High Court has set aside a man’s seven-year jail term in a dowry case involving the death of his sister-in-law, saying the evidence to prove his involvement in the victim’s death was “scanty”.

Allowing the appeal of V K Kalra, Justice S P Garg said, “The accusations attributed to Kalra were not sufficiently deep-seated or grave to constitute cruelty under Section 498A (subjecting a married woman to cruelty) of the IPC.

India successfully test fires nuclear-capable Agni-II missile

India Sunday successfully test-fired its nuclear-capable Agni-II strategic ballistic missile from a military base in Odisha, a defence official said.

The test was conducted from Wheeler’s Island in Bhadrak district, around 200 km from here, at about 10.20 a.m. by army personnel as part of routine user-trials, M.V.K.V. Prasad, director of the Integrated Test Range, told IANS.

“The missile successfully hit the target. It was a perfect launch” he said.

Chairman of Press Council of India, Justice Katju told that a committee has been constituted to review the issues facing the small and medium newspapers.

Mr. Gurender Singh, President of All Indian Small and Medium Newspapers’ Federation and a member of Press Council of India would be its Chairman.

This committee would review the problems faced by Small and Medium Newspapers and offer its recommendations.

Youth fell unconscious by Police harassment

Salman Khan’s appeal to be heard by Sessions Court tomorrow

Actor Salman Khan’s appeal, against a magistrate’s order invoking the charge of ‘culpable homicide not amounting to murder’ in a hit and run case against him, would come for hearing before a sessions court tomorrow.

The appeal, filed by the actor a month ago, would be heard by Sessions Judge U B Hejib.

The actor has not been summoned to appear before the court yet and the matter would be argued by his lawyers in the sessions court tomorrow, sources told PTI.
The appeal would be decided first and then the main case would be heard, sources said.

Sexual harassment charge: HC seeks response from MTNL

The Delhi High Court has sought response from MTNL on a woman employee’s charge that she was subjected to sexual harassment by her male colleagues who, she claimed, watched pornographic websites in her presence.

The court also asked the counsel for the state-owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd to apprise it, after taking instructions, as to whether the male employees concerned can be transferred or not.

Man, two others, get life term for strangling wife

A man, who had strangled his wife in 2009 after his in-laws did not fulfil the dowry demands, and his two friends have been sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment by a Delhi court.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 17,000 each on Sunil, Harish and Madan after holding them guilty for various offences including under sections 302 (murder) of the IPC.

Rahul Gandhi not running for any post, says Sachin Pilot

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will lead the party in the 2014 general elections but he is not running for any post, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs Sachin Pilot said on Saturday.

“The Congress has not once said that Rahul Gandhi is the prime minister in waiting. He is not running for any particular post. Rahul Gandhi does not need to. He does not need any projection,” Pilot told a news channel.

He also took a dig at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his ambition of becoming Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate in 2014.
