Don’t think Muslims and Christians will accept Modi, says VHP leader

Amid talk about Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s projection as BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Acharya Dharmendra today said he wants “a true patriot” to occupy the country’s top post after the next elections.

“I want to see a true patriot becomes next Prime Minister …I don’t think Modi is a traitor…However, we have to see what happens ahead (aage aage dekhiye hota hai kya),” he said when asked whether he would endorse Modi’s candidature for the PM’s post.

Dharmendra was addressing a press conference after inaugurating a school function here.

HC to pronounce its verdict on Sajjan Kumar today

The Delhi High Court will pronounce its verdict on Monday on a plea of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar against a trial court order framing charges against him in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case related to the killings of six persons.

Justice Suresh Kait, who had reserved the order in December last year, will pronounce the verdict at 10.30 am today.

Besides the Congress leader, co-accused Ved Prakash Pial alias Vedu Pradhan and Brahmanand Gupta had also moved the high court against framing of charges against them in the case.

Central Govt. employees protest today for VII Pay Commission

All India DRDO Technical Officers’ Association has announced to protest throughout the country to support their long pending demands for constituting VIIth Pay Commission and also for clarifications regarding pension scheme.

Mr. Krishnamohan, President of the Association told that all the unions of Central Govt. employees would participate in the protest. In Hyderabad, protest would be organized at Indira Park today. All the present and past employees will participate in the protest.

Bangarutalli scheme to encourage girl child birth

Govt. of AP has decided to introduce “Bangaru Talli” scheme to encourage giving birth to girl child. It has been decided that State Govt. would bear entire expenses of education of the girl right from KG to PG.

This scheme is being implemented to prevent foeticide when it is detected in the womb of the mother that the child is a girl.

Mr. Syed Mujtaba Abedi, Vice President of AP Urdu Council, Mr. Agha Dost Ali, Mr. Syed Shakeel Abedi and Mr. Mohammed Mushtaq Ahmed made a representation to Mr. AP Ram Kumar, Chief Manager of State Bank of Hyderabad, Azampura Branch and told him that there is no Urdu on the sign board of the bank.

A model Entrance test was conducted at Mahboob Hussain Jigar Hall, Siasat office complex yesterday. The purpose of conducting this model test was to familiarize the students the pattern of the entrance test and also to give them enough practice.

Tents arranged at Airport for Friday prayers

Mr. Shahid Peeran , Congress leader expressed his satisfaction that on the representation of Minorities Welfare Minister, Mr. Ahmedullah, tents have been erected at the Hyderabad airport to facilitate the Muslims for offering prayer on Firdays.

Need for monitoring committee for Minority schemes – Mr. Zahid Ali Khan

Fire breaks out at DRDO’s Chandipur complex

A fire broke out in an underground magazine store of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at Chandipur, about 15 km from here this morning, triggering a string of explosions.

“The fire triggered explosions as it erupted in the magazine store of the Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE) where shells and ammunition of different capacities and sizes are stored for test,” Officer In-Charge of Chandipur police station PK Acharya said.

The brutal assault on Sarabjit Singh in a Pakistani jail was an un-Islamic act and such incidents could create a negative atmosphere for the minority community in India, the spiritual head of Ajmer Sharif Dargah said today. “The attack on Sarabjit by fellow inmates is an un-Islamic act in an Islamic country…such incidents can create a negative atmosphere for the minority community in India,” Dargah Diwan Zainul Abedin Ali Khan told media in Ajmer.

Curfew relaxed in violence-hit Nimaz town

Curfew in Nimaz town of Pali district, where communal violence erupted on Thursday, was today relaxed for seven hours. “The situation is improving gradually so the curfew was relaxed for four hours in the morning and three hours in the evening today,” police said. Curfew was clamped on Thursday evening after some miscreants pelted stones on a Hanuman Jayanti procession in the town, nearly 294 km from here. Enraged over the incident, those who were taking out the procession burnt some shops and vehicles. The incident sparked communal tension in the town.

Former AP minister Rajeswar no more

Former Andhra Pradesh minister Sripati Rajeswar passed away here today due to ill health. Rajeswar, who was 73, had been suffering from kidney-related ailment and he breathed his last this morning, TDP sources said. He was an ardent fan of late N T Rama Rao and headed the NTR fans association for several years. He campaigned for conferring Bharat Ratna on N T Rama Rao. Rajeswar was elected to the Legislative Assembly thrice and also served as a minister. His funeral will be held here tomorrow, the sources said. PTI

Indian HC officials visit Sarabjit after Pak grants access

Indian High Commission officials today visited Sarabjit Singh, comatose in a Lahore hospital following a brutal assault, for the second time in as many days after permission was granted by Pakistani authorities following an initial denial. “The officials visited Singh in the Lahore hospital. His condition remains unchanged,” a spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs said. Singh was brought to the hospital after a deadly attack by his fellow jail inmates.

BSF returns runaway Pakistan boy carrying pics of Bollywood stars

A Pakistani boy, who ran away from his home after being beaten by his father for not doing his homework and had inadvertently crossed over to this side of border, was on Sunday handed over by BSF to Pakistani rangers. 13-year-old Nadeem Mehar, a resident of Bahawalnagar in Pakistan, was returned by BSF to their counterparts at the border in Anoopgarh sector.

Will do everything to bring back Sarabjit Singh, says India

As Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh battled for his life in a Lahore hospital, the Indian government on Sunday said it would do everything it can to let him come home on humanitarian grounds. “I think at the moment the first priority is to stabilize him. I don’t suppose you could really move him in this stage. But we can certainly do everything we can. We have done it in the past and the matter has been taken up at every level,” Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur told NDTV news channel.

Girls’ hostel warden arrested for seeking sexual favours

The warden of an educational institute for visually challenged children was arrested on Sunday for seeking sexual favours from the 15-year-old daughter of a sanitation worker in Jaipur, police said. An investigation is now on to confirm whether visually challenged girl inmates of the institute’s hostel were also harassed by the named warden.
