Arrest warrant against Hindu group leader in Malaysia

Ahead of the general elections in the country May 5, a Malaysian court Monday issued an arrest warrant against a Hindu rights group leader in a sedition case.

A sessions court has issued the warrant of arrest against P. Uthayakumar, a leader of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), for not appearing in court in a 2007 sedition case, local media reported.

However, Uthayakumar contended that he had a medical certificate exempting him from appearing in court from April 2 to May 17.

Don’t have Facebook, Twitter account: Tanushree Dutta

Bollywood actress Tanushree Dutta says she does not have any personal account on social networking platforms like Facebook or Twitter.

“I would like to tell everybody that I am not on Facebook or Twitter,” the 29-year-old said here in an interview.

Recently, the actress had reportedly lodged a complaint against an unknown person for impersonating her by creating a fake account of hers on a social networking site. She has warned her fans against such fake accounts.

‘Aashiqui 2’ collects over Rs.20 crore

“Aashiqui 2”, a romantic-action film, might have shared the release date with Hollywood film “Iron Man 3”, but it is doing well and earned over Rs.20 crore at the box office in the first three days of its release.

Made on a budget of Rs.12 crore, the film stars Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor. Co-produced by Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt under their banners T Series Films and Vishesh Films, the movie has been directed by Mohit Suri.

Congress Telangana MPs on sit-in protest in parliament

As the agitation for creation of a separate Telangana state continues, five Congress MPs from Andhra Pradesh Monday morning began a 48-hour-long sit-in at the main entrance of parliament to press for the formation of the state.

MPs Ponnam Prabhakar, G. Vivekanand, Rajaiah Siricilla, M. Jagannath and G. Sukhender Reddy are staging their sit-in protest on the stairs at the main entrance to the building and say their demands are not being heard inside the house so they are forced to agitate outside.

YSRCP asks Naidu not to cheat people

The YSR Congress Party on Monday branded the series of promises made by TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu during his Padayatra as empty and impractical and asked him not to cheat the people again as in the past.

TRS, BJP MLAs solidarity to TJAC

BJP and TRS leaders today expressed solidarity with TJAC that is on a two-day Sansad Yatra dharna in the national capital.

Those who called on the TJAC members holding dharna at Jantar Mantar include BJP spokesperson Prakash Javedkar, State President G Kishan Reddy and senior leader Bandaru Dattatreya.

Case booked against Venu Madhav

A case was registered against film comedian Venu Madhav after his dog attacked a boy and injured him seriously.

When the film star was taking the dog for a walk at HB Colony in the northern part of the city, a 13-year old boy passing by on a bicycle said hello to the star. The dog swung on him and attacked him. He was injured and admitted to a local hospital.

Kushaiguda police registered a case against the film star. (INN)

One day break for Sharmila padayatra

YSR Congress leader Sharmila will take a one day break from her padayatra due to sprain of leg.

Her sprained leg has been very painful, and her Maro Praja Prasthanam will be stalled for one day on Tuesday. The padayatra will resume on May 1, party sources said. (INN)

Telangana heat has touched the Parliament.

While TJAC leaders are on a two-day dharna at Jantar mantar, Telangana Congress members took the battle to the portals of Parliament. Telangana Congress MPs today held a dharna at Parliament gate.

BJP floor leader Sushma Swaraj had expressed solidarity with them.

“We did not see any such incident (ruling party MPs protesting) in the Parliament in the recent history. I will take up the issue on the floor of the house tomorrow,” she said. (INN)

TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu today called on fitness trainer Dinaz, the fitness trainer.

Naidu along with his wife Bhuvaneswari went to the fitness trainer’s house at Road number 12, Banjara Hills to offer condolences. Dinaz lost her mother and the TDP leader who returned from his padayatra yesterday paid a visit to share her grief.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday said that it will carve out a separate Telangana within 100 days of coming to power.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javedkar announced this while participating at the Sansad Yatra being held by TJAC at Jantar Mantar here. Telangana people will teach a lesson to Congress in the next elections, he said. Though we assured of full support in the Parliament, the Congress went back on Telangana, he said.

Jagan, Mopidevi remand extended

The CBI special court today extended the bail plea of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and others till May 13.

The hearing of the Disproportionate Assets (DA) case was held through video conference and the bail extended.

The court has been hearing the case through video conference after security issue arose from bring the high profile under trials from Chanchalguda jail to Nampally court.

Besides YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, other whose remand was extended include former minister Mopidevi Venkataramana, Nimmagadda Prasad and Brahmananda Reddy. (INN)

Jagan bail plea posted to May 6

The Supreme Court has posted to May 6 the bail petition of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in the Disproportionate Assets (DA) case.

The bench comprising Justice Sadasivam and Justice Iqbal heard the arguments of the counsel of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The court has issued notices to CBI to file counter in the Jagan bail case.

Meanwhile, the verdict on the petition seeking the High Court to monitor the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy case has been reserved by the court. (INN)

HC strikes down CBI petition on Dharmana

Roads and Buildings Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao got a great relief with the High Court striking down CBI petition on the prosecution of the minister.

The CBI has filed a memo stating that there need be any permission to prosecute Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao. The High Court has struck down the CBI court ruling that there need not be any permission to prosecute the minister. The lower court had earlier ruled that permission need not be taken to prosecute the minister.

Dharmana Prasada Rao challenged the verdict of the lower court in the High Court and got a favourable ruling.

Jana Reddy gets a breather

Minister Jana Reddy got a breather on Monday with the High Court dismissing the petition to probe his assets.

A petition was filed to probe the assets of the minister alleging corruption charges. The Court has dismissed the petition on the grounds that is does not qualify for hearing. (INN)

Five car bombs kill 26 in Shiite areas across Iraq

Five car bombs exploded today in predominantly Shiite cities and districts in central and southern Iraq, killing 26 civilians and wounding dozens, officials said.

The blasts come amid a week-long spike in sectarian violence following clashes at a Sunni protest camp in the north of the country. No one has claimed responsibility, but coordinated bombings in civilian areas are a favorite strategy used by al-Qaeda in Iraq.

Driver allegedly rapes 15-year-old in school bus; arrested

A driver of a school bus was arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl here, police said on Monday. The girl, a class X student of a private school here has charged her school bus driver with raping her and lodged an FIR against him with Khajuwala police station on Sunday night.

The police have arrested the accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar (35), CO Babu Lal said on Monday. “The girl was on her way to the school on April 26 when the driver met and offered her lift to the school. The driver was alone in the bus. He gave a sedative-laced drink to the girl and raped her,” CO said.

A terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen has warned the women in Jammu and Kashmir to keep away from latest fashion. The terror group has pasted posters in Kashmir Valley’s Sopore warning women and girls of dire consequences if they do not follow the diktat.

The posters warn the women and girls against wearing tight and fashionable cloths. Hizbul Mujahideen has also warned people to stop informing or working for security agencies.

Woman consumes poison outside a metro station

A 25-year-old woman committed suicide by consuming poison outside a Metro station in the national capital, police said on Sunday. Her husband and in-laws have been arrested for alleged dowry harassment.

“Shilpa was found lying unconscious outside Dwarka Sector 12 Metro Station in the morning. She was spotted by a Metro security personnel,” said a police officer. No suicide note was found. According to Shilpa’s parents, she was depressed due to dowry harassment by her in-laws, police said.

Pak investigators to quiz Rehman Malik in Bhutto killing case

Pakistani investigators probing the 2007 assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto have decided to quiz Rehman Malik after being told by Pervez Musharraf that the former interior minister had decided details of her security on the day she was killed.

Malik was head of Bhutto’s security when she returned to Pakistan from self-exile in late 2007.

Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav took the lead in targeting the government for “doing nothing” and alleged that it was acting in a “cowardly” manner in dealing with the intrusion.

Parliament disrupted again over coalgate

Both houses of parliament were adjourned till 2 pm on Monday as the BJP demanded Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s resignation over the contentious issue of coal blocks allocation.
However, it was agreed at an all-party meeting, called by Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to break the ongoing logjam, to take up the crucial finance bill along with the railway appropriation bill and the demands for grants of various ministries Tuesday, said sources.

SC notice to CBI over bail for Jagan

The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to CBI seeking its response on the bail plea of YSR Congress leader Jaganmohan Reddy in a disproportionate assets case.

A bench headed by Justice P Sathasivam asked the agency to file its response and posted the case for hearing on May 6.

Jaganmohan has moved the apex court challenging the Andhra Pradesh high court’s January 24 order refusing to grant him bail in the case.
