Ranbir Kapoor plays football with `underprivileged` kids in New Delhi

Ranbir Kapoor was spotted playing a fun match with the children of an NGO- the Magic Bus Charity Foundation- in New Delhi.

The 30-year-old actor is in the capital to play a charitable football match scheduled to be played between cricketers and members of the film fraternity at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Saturday.

On the occasion, the ‘Barfi’ star also spoke about the preparations of the Actor’s team.

“Every Sunday religiously we all get together and play. We all are off course very unfit because we don’t play that much; we don’t have that much stamina,” he said.

A new surveillance video obtained by American law enforcement agencies could provide some vital clue about Indian-American Sunil Tripathi, who went missing on March 16.

An image from the surveillance video, captured near Brown University on March 16, just 19 minutes after Sunil’s last recorded computer activity, displays a man walking south on Brook Street who matches Sunil’s physical description: six feet tall, skinny, and last seen wearing a black cap, dark jacket and jeans.

An undergraduate student from the Brown University, Sunil went missing on March 16.

Dalai Lama hopes for a new era with Chinese President

Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, today hoped for a new era of reconciliation and peace with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The Dalai Lama said that the newly-elected Chinese President Xi Jinping represents a positive change.

The Dalai Lama, who was in Salugara to give a three daylong sermon to the locals, said that he was optimistic of the new leadership and his dealings with the international community.

18 killed in Iraq bombings

At least 18 people were killed and over 100 injured in five car bombing incidents in Iraq Friday, Xinhua reported.

The bombings targetted Shiite mosques in Baghdad and Kirkuk city, an interior ministry source said, adding at least 14 people were killed and 25 wounded in the four attacks in the capital city.

The fifth was a suicide attack, which targetted the worshipers while leaving a mosque in Kirkuk, some 250 km from Baghdad, killing four and wounding 80, a police source said.

Minor girl gang-raped in Rajasthan

A 15-year old girl was allegedly gang-raped by five persons in Hanumangarh district, about 225 kms from here, police said on Friday.

The accused abducted the girl from her house in Nukera village on the night of March 20, they said.

The girl was taken to the house of one of the accused, where she was gang-raped, police said.

The girl returned home and narrated the incident to her mother who informed elders of the village.

Three arrested for eve-teasing girl

Three people, including a minor, have been arrested for allegedly eve-teasing a girl in Railway Colony here and threatening her when she protested.

Two of the accused, who were absconding, were caught and produced before a court on Friday, police said.

A resident of the colony had filed a complaint on March 22 with the police that his 16-year-old daughter was passing a bylane when the three approached her.

They allegedly also threatened the girl with her life when she objected to the eve-teasing.

Three cases of gang rape reported from Madhya Pradesh

Two women and a minor girl were allegedly gang raped in Bhind, Shajapur and Vidisha districts of the state respectively, the police said on Friday.

The first incident of gang rape was reported from Banjare Ka Pura village in Bhind district where a tribal widow was allegedly raped by two people on Thursday after she filed a complaint at Gohad Chouraha police station that local villagers had abused her and pelted stones at her house, police said.

Girl ends life with youth on pre-wedding ceremony day

A young couple have allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a moving train in Civil Lines area here.

Devendra (22) and Saroj (20), both residents of Hardaspur village, were having an affair but the girl’s family had fixed her marriage with some else, police said.

As pre-wedding ceremony of the girl was to take place today, the couple left their respective houses late last night and jumped before a train at Jaswantnagar overbridge.

While the boy died on the spot, the girl succumbed to her injuries at a hospital, police said.

Man acquitted of abducting and raping sister-in-law

A man has been acquitted of the charges of abducting and raping his 19-year-old sister-in-law by a Delhi court which said hostility of the girl and her mother has knocked out the prosecution’s case.

A fast track court presided by Additional Sessions Judge M C Gupta acquitted Sultanpuri resident Sunil of all the charges, saying as far as his involvement in the commission of offences of rape and abduction is concerned, it has not been sufficiently established by reliable evidence.

No 3rd term for Manmohan

Congress ministers on Friday downplayed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s remarks appearing not to rule out his being in the PM race for a third term but party spokesperson Rashid Alvi said people have a desire that Rahul Gandhi should be the Prime Minister.

Union minister and Congress leader Rajiv Shukla remarked that the Prime Minister had said nothing to suggest he was ready for a third term.

“In my view he was responding to a pointed question. And, what he said? He only said that when bridge will come we will decide how to cross it,” he said.

Anna Hazare Friday night visited Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal at his indefinite fast site here and urged him to call off his fast citing his deteriorating health.

The meeting between Hazare and Kejriwal took place at around 10:50 PM.

This is the first time that both Hazare and Kejriwal came on a common platform since they parted ways in September last year. Kejriwal had, however, called on Hazare a number of times after the September 19 split.

Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, who returned here this week to participate in the May 11 polls, was on Friday barred from leaving the country by a court where an angry lawyer hurled a shoe at him.

A single member bench of the Sindh High Court Chief Justice Justice Musheer Alam, however, accepted 69-year-old Musharraf’s request for extension of bail for 15 days in a series of cases, which was granted before he arrived back in the country.

12 killed in Pakistan suicide attack

At least 12 people were killed and 31 injured in a suicide attack in Pakistan Friday as a convoy of security personnel near the US Consulate in Peshawar city, was targetted, police said.

The suicide bomber detonated his explosives near a Frontier Constabulary convoy in a high security area of the city, Dawn reported.

The bomber intended to target FC Commandant Abdul Majeed Marwat, security officials said. He, however, managed to escape the attack relatively unhurt.

Railway ticket checker arrested for molestation

A deputy chief ticket inspector was on Friday arrested for allegedly making sexual advances towards a woman software professional on the Chennai-Ahmedabad Navjeevan Express in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh.

Government Railway Police sources said E Jaya Gopi, the accused, was drunk at the time.

He took the woman to an AC compartment on the pretext of collecting the fare difference, and allegedly made a pass at her.

She shouted for help and other passengers came to her rescue.

Armyman booked for rape

An armyman was on Friday booked for allegedly raping a minor girl in neighbouring Ranga Reddy district, police said.

The accused, identified as Naresh, is a resident of Kulakcharla village.

He had come on a vacation to the village last year when he allegedly raped the girl, who is now seven-month pregnant, they said, quoting from a complaint lodged by the victim’s parents.

The girl is said to be mentally-ill.

Women in India are more likely to get prenatal care when pregnant with male babies, according to a groundbreaking study that has implications for girls’ health and survival in patriarchal societies.

The study by Leah Lakdawala of Michigan State University and Prashant Bharadwaj of the University of California, San Diego, suggests sex discrimination begins in the womb in male-dominated societies such as India.

It paints a pretty dire picture of what’s happening,” said Lakdawala, MSU assistant professor of economics.

Expressing anguish over decreasing values in judiciary, legal experts on Friday said people are losing faith in the system. “Values in the judiciary, from lower courts to Supreme Court, are sliding and people are losing faith in the system,” Kadapa district Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy said.

Man rapes aunt over property dispute, assaults uncle & cousin

A man allegedly raped his aunt and assaulted his uncle and cousin over a property dispute in Bihar’s Nawada district, the police said.

Manoj Yadav, the accused, allegedly committed the crimes last night.

He was arrested today from Parahia village under Nadiganj police station, they said.

A pistol and 11 ammunition were seized from his possession, they added.

Raids were being carried out to nab Manoj’s father Rameshwar Yadav, who, too has been named as an accused in the assault case.

The rape victim has been taken to a government hospital for medical test, they said.
