Four Dhule victims killed in police firing were shot in back: post-mortem reports

The post-mortem reports of the Dhule riot victims reveal that at least four of the six victims were shot in the back by the police.

While the police have maintained that they fired in self-defence after the mob reportedly attacked them during the January riots, the local Muslim community has alleged that the police “selectively targeted Muslims” and fired on people who were fleeing.

Of the five post-mortem reports available with The Indian Express, four victims were found to have bullet entry wounds in the back.

UK police quiz mum for ‘egg PM’ joke on Facebook

A middle-aged mother of two, who joked on Facebook about chucking an egg at British Prime Minister David Cameron, has been quizzed by detectives.

45-year-old Debra Burt typed “Cameron — I’d like to egg him” on a friend’s timeline.

British detectives spent a month tracking down her and ordered her to stay away from Cameron.

Debra said she made the quip out of frustration against cuts imposed by the government.

She accused cops of “snooping” on Facebook and told them: “Go out and fight real crooks.”

PDP’s Mufti attacks Jammu and Kashmir government

Patron of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Sunday lambasted the Jammu and Kashmir government, saying its “oppressive policies” like curfew amounted to denying fundamental rights to the people.

“Instead of addressing grievances of the people, the state government with the help of draconian methods like curfew is denying people their constitutional and fundamental rights,” said Sayeed while addressing a party convention at Bishnah town, 30 km from here.

Bill to regulate real estate sector soon: Minister

The government will soon introduce a bill to regulate the real estate sector and protect home buyers, Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Ajay Maken said here Sunday.

“We will take the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Bill 2012 to the cabinet soon. We hope to pass it in the budget session,” Maken told the national editors’ conference here.

“Salaried people usually spend all their savings on buying an apartment but often suffer delays and cost escalation,” he said.

Haryana Lokayukta gets 1,448 corruption complaints

Haryana’s Lokayukta Sunday said his office had got 1,448 complaints about corruption in the last one year and dealt with over half of them.

Justice (retd) Pritam Pal said action had been taken on nearly 900 complaints received in the last one year.

“Investigation on other pending cases would soon be completed and appropriate action would be taken against the accused,” he said here.

He said the maximum number of complaints related to police, revenue and food supply departments.

Don’t speculate on Tendulkar’s career: Dhoni

Batting great Sachin Tendulkar left the cricketing world guessing by not announcing his much speculated retirement after India whitewashed Australia 4-0 to lift the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Ferozeshah Kotla here Sunday.

Even skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni asked the media not to speculate on Tendulkar, who retired from One-Day Internationals (ODI) in December.

Delhi Police release second terror suspect’s sketch

Delhi Police Sunday released the sketch of a man whom the arrested suspected Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist was to contact to plan a ‘fidayeen’ (suicide) terror attack in the capital.

According to Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) S.N. Shrivastava, the man, aged around 25-30, had brought the arms and explosives, to be used in the attack, to a guest house here.

Police said the sketch was prepared on the basis of statements given by the guest house employees and the CCTV footage.

Raj Thackeray renews attack on Maharashtra government

After nearly a fortnight, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray Sunday renewed his attack on the ruling Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance.

Addressing a massive rally in Amravati – 690 km from Mumbai – Sunday evening, Thackeray accused government officials of being corrupt, especially those in the irrigation department, controlled by the NCP.

“Five of the key ministries are handled by the NCP: finance, power, irrigation, water and home. What have they done so far,” Thackeray said as he completed the third leg of his state-wide tour in Vidarbha.

Musharraf returns home after four year exile

Former president Pervez Musharraf returned to Pakistan Sunday after a self-exile for over four years to take part in the May parliamentary elections.

A plane carrying Musharraf, leaders of his party and media persons from Dubai landed soon after noon at the port city of Karachi where supporters accorded him a warm welcome.

The authorities in Karachi cancelled permission for a Musharraf rally at the mausoleum of the founder of the nation over security concerns.

Musharraf had been living in exile in Britain and the United Arab Emirates since he resigned from his post in August 2008.

Man kills daughter,ends life

In a gory incident, a father killed his five-year-old daughter and also ended his life by committing suicide. The incident occurred on Sunday at Nemali in Krishna district.

The man who killed the daughter is identified as resident of the Sairam Tanda in Julurupadu mandal of Khammam district. The man’s son was also found in an unconscious state at the place. On information from shepherds, police rushed to the spot and sent the son to hospital. Reasons for the ghastly act are not yet known.

Bargirl killed in Mumbai, police launch manhunt

The Mumbai police have launched a manhunt to trace a person who allegedly killed a 21-year old bar girl by strangulating her.

According to police, they got information from a hospital’s casualty department this morning that a girl with visible strangulation marks had died during treatment. The police said that Sunita, a resident of MAHADA colony in Tardeo in Central Mumbai, was staying with her live-in partner, Radheye.

Her neighbours found that Sunita, a bar girl by profession, was unconscious and took her to the Nair hospital where she was declared dead.

Four youths allegedly rape 14-year-old tribal girl

A 14-year-old tribal girl was allegedly gangraped by four tribals, including three minors, in Singora village under Rajnagar police station limits, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday night when the girl was alone in her house, Rajnagar police station in-charge OS Chandel told reporters.

Her parents reported the matter to the police after which the accused were arrested.

Spurned youth attacks woman in Hyderabad; arrested

A jilted youth on Sunday allegedly attacked a young woman with a sharp weapon and injured her, after she married another man despite getting engaged to the former, police said.

The accused, Raju, was arrested and booked on charge of attempt to murder following a complaint, they said.

Raju attacked the woman, a nurse, with a sickle on her back near a bus stop in Kandukur area on the outskirts of the city after noticing her there with her husband, they said.

Today the Cyber Crime Police, CCS, DD, Hyderabad nabbed one Kurangi Benna Vidyasagar, 20, of Sampathnagar, Agraharam, Guntur district, who cheated innocence people especially aged persons, who could not operate the ATM card properly.

Dy. Commissioner of Police, Detective Department CCS, Hyderabad stated that the modus operandi of the accused was to introduce himself as a mechanic of ATM Machine or security guard. After gaining confidence of the card holder, he operates their ATM cards by taking their PIN number.

Absconding undertrial nabbed by Task Force

Today, sleuths of Commissioner’s Task Force, South Zone Team, apprehended a Jail absconding accused Syed. Feroz wanted by the Chilkalguda Police.

The accused Syed. Feroz, 26, son of Syed. Ibrahim, of Bandlaguda, committed a number of property offences. A notorious property offender, he was apprehended by Rajendranagar Police and produced before the local Court in November last.

Lover couple murdered in Khammam

It was a ghastly act. Some unidentified persons allegedly murdered a lover couple in a mango garden near Markodu village under Illendu sub-division of Khammam district on Sunday.

The murdered lovers were identified as Rambabu and Sarala. Rambabu was working as a government teacher in Chintoor mandal. The two were in love since some time. Someone attacked and killed them when they were meeting in the mango garden, it is suspected.

Police are investigating the murder. They are also trying to find out whether this was honor killing.

YSRCP objects to CBI JD remarks

Taking strong objection to the CBI remarks that there is no deadline for the investigation of the 26 GOs case, YSR Congress has said vested interests are trying to keep YS Jagan Mohan Reddy away from the people as they are scared of his growing popularity.

“The recent Tamil Nadu example is another blur on the CBI style or functioning and a CBI official telling media that there was no commitment on closing the 26 GOs investigation case before March 31 is nothing but buckling under political pressure,” party spokesperson Ambati Rambabu told reporters here on Sunday.
