Tamil Nadu for referendum in Sri Lanka

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Wednesday introduced a resolution in the assembly calling for a referendum to carve out a Tamil Eelam state in Sri Lanka.

Pushing the resolution in the house, the chief minister said Tamils living in Sri Lanka as well as Tamils of Sri Lankan origin living in other countries should take part in the referendum.

A youth drowned in a well in IDL area in Kukatpally here. Police said he had gone to the well to take a bath after celebrating Holi.

Delivering the key note address at the 3rd International Conference on Renewable Energy here today, former advisor to the Prime Minister P S Deodhar advocated a proper mix of conventional as well as non-conventional energy.

There was ample opportunity to generate solar energy from small roof top projects to avoid high losses in grid

Contraceptive pills kill 20 in France

The use of contraceptive pills cause some 2,500 accidents and 20 deaths every year in France.

This is the finding of the National Agency for the Safety of Drugs and Health Products (ANSM), reports Xinhua.

ANSM’s undated study estimated that the contraceptive pills are tied to blood clots, and 1,751 accidents as well as 14 of 20 deaths were caused by the third and fourth generation pills.

The other six deaths were blamed on first and second eneration pills.

Raze illegal structures on magistrate court premises, BMC told

The Bombay High Court has directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to demolish all illegal structures or extensions that have come up on the premises of the suburban Vikhroli magistrate’s court.

Two missing children found from Wazirbagh in J&K

Two minor siblings were recovered by police today, hours after they went missing from their locality in Rainawari area of the city.

Four-year-old Mutayab Naqash and his sister Maroofa Akhter (two) went missing yesterday from home at Naid Boni,
Rainawari,” a police spokesman said.

He said an auto-rickshaw driver noticed the missing kids with a woman in suspicious circumstances at Wazirbagh in
uptown city and alerted police.

Police took the kids from the woman, who is reported to be mentally unstable, and handed them over to their parents, the spokesman said.

Country bombs hurled at murder accused: five injured

Five persons, including two cameramen of local Tamil TV channels, were today injured when a person hurled country bombs at an accused in the murder of a dalit outfit founder near a local court, police said.

One Natarajan, who allegedly hurled the bombs, was arrested with the help of a telephone lineman who managed to
catch hold of him, police said.

The lineman also suffered splinter injuries.
