Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline work to start on March 11

Unfazed by the threat of US sanctions, Pakistan and Iran will start work on the USD 7.5 billion gas pipeline on March 11.

The groundbreaking will be performed by the Presidents of the two countries at the Pakistan-Iran border and agreements for opening two more border crossings at Gabd and Pasni and for setting up an oil refinery in Gwadar will be signed after the ceremony.

The ceremony will be held at Gabd zero point on the border from where the Pakistani section of the pipeline will start, an official of the Pakistan embassy in Tehran was quoted as saying by Dawn.

US wins appeal in battle to extradite Kim Dotcom

The United States on Friday won a court appeal in its battle to extradite Internet entrepreneur Kim Dotcom and three of his colleagues from New Zealand.

A New Zealand appeals court overturned an earlier ruling that would have allowed Dotcom and the others broad access to evidence in the case against them at the time of their extradition hearing, which is scheduled for August.

The appeals court ruled that extensive disclosure would bog down the process and that a summary of the US case would suffice.

Lockerbie bombing case ‘closed’: Libya govt

The new Libyan government has poured cold water on hopes of British police expecting a more open investigation into the Lockerbie bombing case after Muammar Gaddafi’s ouster, saying the case is now ‘closed’.

Senior officials from the Libya’s justice department declared the matter “over” and “something of the past”.

Libyan Deputy Justice Minister Hameda al-Magery said that they ‘want to move forward to build a new future and not to look back at Gaddafi’s black history.’

Indonesia urged to protect religious minorities

The New York-based Human Rights Watch has urged the Indonesian government to make efforts to protect religious minorities from growing intolerance and violence in the country.

A report from HRW said that there has been a steady rise in attacks on Christians, Buddhists and Muslim minorities.

Many of these were carried out by Islamist militants, the report, which was based on the interview of over 100 people of varied religious beliefs, added.

China to approve new short-haul aircraft

A new generation of short-haul aircraft will be granted production approval soon and enter the market in 2014, a media report said on Friday.

The MA700 aircraft, designed by the Avic Aircraft Co, is about to be approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology after years of research and development, a source told the China Securities Journal reported.

The turboprop will mainly be used for medium- and short-distance trips, said Geng Ruguang, vice general manager of Avic’s parent company, the Aviation Industry Corporation of China, Xinhua reported.

Iran outsourcing nuke program to North Korea?

Iran might be outsourcing its nuclear program and providing the country’s best scientist to North Korea, a report has said.

Reports that Iran’s leading nuclear scientist, Dr Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, was present for North Korea’s third nuclear test on February 11 have raising further concerns.

The London Times first reported on February 17 that Fakhrizadeh, who despite the terms of UN Security Council Resolution 1747, may have travelled “evidently to Pyongyang, most likely via China” to witness North Korea’s third and successful nuclear test.

China executes Myanmar drug lord for killing 13 sailors

China on Friday executed a Myanmarese drug lord, along with three other accomplices from Thailand and Laos, for murdering 13 Chinese sailors on the Mekong River in 2011, official media reported.

Naw Kham and three of his accomplices, identified as Hsang Kham, (Thailand) Yi Lai, (state less) and Zha Xika (Laos), were executed by lethal injection in the city of Kunming in southwest China’s Yunnan Province, according to the Intermediate People’s Court of Kunming.

UP: Two minors raped in different incidents

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth when she was returning from the fields after giving lunch to her father, police said on Friday.

The victim was raped by Ashok Kumar on Thursday at Jaibhagwan village near the sugarcane fields, police said.

The father of the girl has lodged an FIR and police has registered a case against Kumar, who is absconding.

In another related incident, a minor was allegedly raped by a shopkeeper at Nagal village on Thursday.

UP: Robbers flee with cash, jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh

Four armed robbers allegedly decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs 20 lakhs from a house at Syana town here, police said on Friday.

They barged in to the house of scrap dealer Aashiq Ali and locked him and his family members in a room before fleeing with the loot on Thursday night, they said.

Ali, whose house is about 100 metres from the nearest police station, has alleged that the robbers were dressed in Delhi Police uniform, they said.

Bhandara rape: Govt rejects demand for CBI probe

Government on Friday turned down Opposition’s demand in Rajya Sabha for a CBI probe into rape and murder of three Dalit minor girls, all below 11 years, in Maharashtra’s Bhandara district, saying Centre does not intervene in state affairs.

“This is a very serious issue and concerns the jurisdiction of Maharashtra government,” Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said, adding the Centre did not intervene in state matters “be a Congress government or an Opposition-ruled government.”

Five complaints of sexual exploitation against TTEs in 2012

Five complaints related to sexual exploitation of women in trains were registered against TTEs and one against police personnel in 2012, the ministry of Railways said on Friday.

In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Railways Kotla Jaya Surya Prakash Reddy shared information as per which nine complaints of sexual exploitation were also registered against armed force personnel in 2012.

VK Gupta new chief of CPWD

V K Gupta, the special DG in Central Public Works Department (CPWD) Headquarters, has taken over as the Director General of the organisation.

Gupta is a 1975 batch Gold Medallist in Civil Engineering from the University of Roorkee.

He has earlier held several posts in CPWD and PWD under the Delhi Government.

Gupta also worked as the Chief Engineer for the Commonwealth Games Project in CPWD and was in-charge of renovation, up gradation and re-construction of 5 stadium complexes of Sports Authority of India in Delhi, an official release on Friday said.

Left MPs boycott Kurien in Rajya Sabha

Left parties on Friday boycotted Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurien by staging a walkout to protest his presiding over the proceedings of the House when it was debating the Bhandara rape incident in Maharashtra.

Kurien was in the Chair when the discussion started soon after Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde completed his statement on allegation of phone tapping of Leader of the Opposition Arun Jaitley.

CPI and CPI-M members staged walk out resenting Kurien being in the Chair, though they did not boycott him during the Home Minister’s reply on the phone-tapping issue.

Uproar in J&K Assembly over Afzal Guru’s hanging

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly was adjourned on Friday after uproarious scenes over the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) demand to discuss Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru’s hanging.

Members of the ruling National Conference (NC), as also the lone Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) member, too joined the demand. The PDP started shouting slogans demanding the adjournment motion.

PDP legislators were led by the party president Mehbooba Mufti, who said: “We want an adjournment motion on this important issue.”

Minor girl raped inside Delhi school premises

An eight-year-old girl, student of Class 2, was allegedly raped inside the premises of a North Delhi Municipal Corporation school here. Three people have been detained for questioning, police said on Friday.

The attack took place Thursday afternoon at the North Delhi civic committees’s school in Mangolpuri area when the child went there to eat her midday meal.

“The victim’s parents came to know about the rape after she was found bleeding,” a police official said.

The girl was taken to the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital where medical examination confirmed rape.

‘India among top ten atomic countries of the world’

Shinde’s gaffe in RS, names rape victims

Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde today committed yet another gaffe when he named the victims of the Bhandara rape incident in Rajya Sabha which had to be expunged at the intervention of the Leader of the Opposition Arun Jaitley.

Pointing out the gaffe, Jaitley, a senior lawyer, said as per law the victims of rape, that too minors, are not identified and named and their identity should be kept a secret as per Supreme Court guidelines.

“I am sure it is an oversight…Three minor children are being named in the statement of the Home Minister. What should not have been done, has been done.

Recipe: Besan Dosa

Ingredients

3 Green Chilies
1 small Onion (finely chopped)
1/4 tsp Cumin Seeds
1 cup Rice Flour
1 cup Besan (Gram Flour)
A few Coriander Leaves (chopped)
3 cups Water
Salt to taste
Cooking oil as required

How to make Besan Dosa

Make a paste of the green chilies.
In a mixing bowl, add besan, rice flour, green chili paste, cumin seeds, coriander leaves and salt.
Add water to the mixture and make it into a thin batter.
Keep a flat iron pan on medium-high heat; grease the pan with some cooking oil.

Mughlai Paratha

Ingredients

• 300 gm Maida
• 2 Eggs
• 1 tsp Baking powder
• Oil to cook
• Salt to taste

How to make

Take a big bowl and mix flour, baking powder and salt.

Rub the flour with 2 tbsp of oil.

Add little water at a time and make soft dough.

Make 8 balls from the dough and roll out into flat thick rounds.

Apply little oil, sprinkle some flour and fold it into half circle.

Again apply little oil and flour, fold it lengthwise.

Now roll it, press down and roll out into square of 8 inches by 8 inches.

Mujtaba Husain – a Humourist Par Excellence

At the beginning of the 70s, emerged a name in Urdu literature in the field of satire and humour, which attained global acclamation within a very short span. He is none other than Mujtaba Husain a prolific and critically acclaimed humourist. He has nearly two dozen books to his credit carrying his writings. Though he was born in Chincholi, Gulbarga district, on 15th of July 1936, but his name and fame crossed geographical boundaries. In 2007, he was honored with the award of the much-coveted Padma Shri by the Government of India for his contributions to Urdu literature.

Incentives to minorities, govt.’s sincerity required

Former MP (Rajya Sabha) Syed Aziz Pasha hoped that the state government will announce incentives as promised by it, in the proposed state budget and said that minorities comprise of 10.89 percent of the state population of which Muslim minorities are 9.21 percent which is 85 percent of the minority population. He told that every year government announces 15% increase in the total budget. This year the proposed budget is expected to be 155578 crore.
