Three quick strikes by pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar left Australia reeling at 83 for four in the first innings at lunch on the first day of the second cricket Test against India at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, here Saturday.

Australian skipper Michael Clarke was batting on 20 and wicketkeeper Matthew Wade on 2 at the lunch break.

Kumar bagged three for 36 while offie Ravichandran Ashwin got one for 10.

Urvashi has done wonderful job in ‘Singh Saheb…’: Director

Urvashi Rautela, the 18-year-old, who is making her Bollywood debut with “Singh Saheb The Great” has impressed director Anil Sharma, who believes she has a long way to go.

“Urvashi is playing the leading lady in the film. She has done a wonderful job in the film. She has justified her role and she has a long way to go. So let us welcome this new girl with all our good wishes,” Sharma told IANS.

Urvashi is said to have replaced Ameesha Patel in the movie, and will be seen romancing Sunny Deol, who is 38 years senior to her.

Rajnath Singh says BJP has Advani to guide it

BJP president Rajnath Singh Saturday said the party was looking up to L.K. Advani to guide it through the challenges being faced by the country.

Singh also backed former BJP president Nitin Gadkari and said that the charges against him were totally false and fabricated.

“If there is somebody who can guide us, it is Advani. When the country is passing through a difficult phase we don’t need to worry,” Singh said, addressing party workers at the three-day party executive meet being held here.

Saif gives his 100 percent for ‘Bullet Raja’

Actor Saif Ail Khan is giving “Bullet Raja” his best, says producer Rahul Mittra.

“A lot has been written about Saif’s look and his character, but I would like to say Saif is adding huge validation to the project. Saif is giving his 100 percent for ‘Bullet Raja’ and he is enjoying himself. He is completely into his character and he is happy in his space,” Mittra told IANS.

He said Saif will be seen in a “different avatar altogether” in the film.

For the first time, Saif has been paired opposite Sonakshi Sinha. The producer says the match looks great on screen.

MANGO CREAM

Ingredients:

2 cup mango puree
1 tblsp lime juice
1 cup heavy cream
1 tblsp unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup sugar

How to make mango cream:
Sprinkle the gelatin on 1/3 cup cold water, then dissolve, stirring, over low heat.Cool.
Mix the mango puree, sugar, lime juice and gelatin.
Whip the cream until stiff, then fold lightly but completely into the mango mixture.
Pour into a mold, rinsed out with cold water.
Refrigerate until set.
Unmold and serve plain, or decorated with slices of mango.

Soha annoyed by royalty references

Don’t rub in the royalty, please! That seems to have been Soha Ali Khan’s underlying statement when at a public event, promoting her new film “Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns”, she made her displeasure clear at her royalty references being relentlessly rustled up.

Director Tigmanshu Dhulia said at the event that he chose Soha to play a princess in his film as she looked every inch the royalty in royal finery.

To this, the sharp-tongued Soha retorted: “Oh yes, I even sleep in royal clothes.”

Four persons burnt to death in Balochistan

Four persons were shot and burnt to death in the restive Balochistan province of southwest Pakistan on Saturday, security officials said.

The incident occurred at Tump, a border town in Turbat district, officials of the Levies militia said.

“Unidentified armed men riding motorcycles opened fire from three sides on a car in which four persons were travelling,” a Levies official told the media.

The armed men later set the car on fire.

All four persons in the car were burnt to death. The attackers escaped before security personnel reached the spot.

Pregnancy leads to permanent changes in women`s feet

A new study has confirmed what many women have long suspected – pregnancy permanently changes the size and shape of the mum to be`s feet.

Flat feet are a common problem for pregnant women. The arch of the foot flattens out, possibly due to the extra weight and increased looseness (laxity) of the joints associated with pregnancy.

The study by the University of Iowa suggests that this loss of arch height is permanent.

Early childhood exposure to the chemical bisphenol A (BPA) can elevate risk for asthma in young children, a new study has revealed.

Researchers at the Columbia Center for Children`s Environmental Health at the Mailman School of Public Health are the first to report the association.

BPA is a component of some plastics and is found in food can liners and store receipts.

Clot-buster pill with aspirin could slash stroke risk

Thousands of stroke patients could cut the risk of severe repeat attacks by popping a clot-busting pill and an aspirin every day.

More than a third of stroke survivors suffer another one within five years – and second strokes are more likely to be disabling or fatal.

But, according to a study, the risk could be cut by a third if patients take the combined drugs, the Daily Express reported.

About 150,000 people have a stroke caused by a blood clot or bleeding in the brain in Britain every year – one every five minutes. It is the leading cause of severe adult disability.

Zardari cancels engagements due to illness

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari cancelled all his engagements during a visit to this eastern city as he is unwell, an aide said on Saturday.

Instead, he rested the whole day yesterday, reportedly on the advice of doctors.

“President Zardari is not feeling well. But there is nothing serious with his health”, a member of the President’s media team told a news agency.

He was scheduled to attend the founder’s day function of the renowned Aitchison College and to meet leaders of his Pakistan People’s Party.

Research carried out by Professor Barbara Pierscionek and a team of fellow vision experts at London`s Kingston University suggests that the way proteins are distributed in the lens of the eye may cause its gradient to be stepped rather than smooth as previously thought.

Rs 23 lakh looted from bank ATM in Thane

Police have launched a manhunt for a security guard-cum-caretaker of a bank ATM who decamped with Rs 23 lakh from the cash dispensing machine near here.

The incident took place last evening at Bhayander, a distant suburb of Mumbai, Prashant Deshpande, Thane Deputy Superintendent of Police, said on Saturday.

He said at around 6 pm, the security guard on duty informed the maintenance personnel that the ATM, belonging to State Bank of India and located near Bhayander railway station, was not functioning.

Inability to catch rabbits may have led to demise of Neanderthals

Neanderthals became extinct as they were unable to adapt their hunting skills to catch small animals like rabbits, a new study has claimed.

For the study, John Fa of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust in Trinity, Jersey, and his colleagues counted skeletons of animals that were found in three excavation sites in Spain and southern France.

The team found that up until 30,000 years ago, the skeletons of larger animals like deer were plentiful in caves.

But around the same time, coinciding with Neanderthals’ disappearance, rabbit skeletons became more abundant.

China to send second woman astronaut into space this year

China is expected to send its second woman astronaut into space this year on-board the Shenzhou-10, the country’s new manned spacecraft, which should be launched sometime between June and August.

Zhou Jianping, the head designer of China’s manned space programme, told Xinhua news agency that he expects a female astronaut to participate in the mission, together with two male astronauts.

The Shenzhou-10 is expected to dock with the orbiting lab module Tiangong-1, he said.

Obama signs order to begin $85 billion in spending cuts

Despite his opposition to it, US President Barack Obama signed an executive order to begin USD 85 billion in spending cuts, which he said could see growth cut by over one-half of one percent and cost about 750,000 jobs.

Obama singed the order late yesterday night reluctantly after he and the Congressional leadership; those from the Republican party; failed to arrive at a consensus on budgetary cuts and how to address the issue of deficit.

The sequester is “dumb” but is “not going to be an apocalypse,” Obama said after his nearly hour long meeting with the Congressional leaders.

India’s Q3 growth numbers ‘under-recorded’: Credit Suisse

Brokerage house Credit Suisse has said the October-December quarter GDP reading of 4.5 percent is possibly “under-recorded”.

“In our view, there are some reasons to believe that the GDP growth is being under-recorded as none of the published survey data point to anything like the kind of weakness that was reported yesterday,” the investment bank’s economist Robert Prior-Wandesforde said in a note to his clients on Friday.

“The Q3 GDP growth is the lowest number since the March quarter of 2009 which was the height of the global financial crisis when GDP rose just 3.5 percent,” he said.

Pak General Elections 2013: Musharraf ends exile, to return by this month

Former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, who has been living in self-exile for nearly four years, said on Friday he would return to Pakistan within a week of the formation of a caretaker administration later this month.

“As soon as the interim government is in place, which we believe will be on March 16, within a week of that I will go back to Pakistan,” Musharraf told a news conference in Dubai.

He said he planned to fly into either Karachi or Rawalpindi to end his self-exile.

US to move resolution on Lanka during UN Human Rights Council

The US set to move a new resolution against Sri Lanka at the current session of the UN Human Rights Council for its alleged war crimes, asking the country to promote reconciliation and accountability.

“The resolution will ask the Government of Sri Lanka to follow through on its own commitments to its people, including implementing the constructive recommendations from the report by Sri Lanka’s Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission,” State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell told reporters on Friday.

The US had introduced a similar resolution last year.

Terror safe havens in Pak a significant challenge: Menendez

The presence of terrorist safe havens in Pakistan’s tribal areas and Islamabad’s reluctance to take action against Haqqani network poses a significant challenge to the US in the region, a top American Senator said on Friday.

“In many of my meetings, I raise the Haqqani issue. We discuss the insurgents’ safe havens in Pakistan and how to best address them. They obviously remain a significant challenge absent a strategic shift in Pakistan’s thinking and ability to take on groups like the Haqqanis,” Senator Robert Menendez, Chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
